    • I would say they are clearing stock as the new high end model has been announced and will be released soon.

For those in apartments, keep in mind it's generally illegal to put these on the front door, as they are not fire rated.
This means you can void your insurance, etc.

I did a bunch of research about a year ago and was not able to find a quality unit that was also legal for fire rated apartment doors (ie. the front door).

    • +1

You need a AS1905.1 rated lock, so make sure to check the data sheet for that.

      • is this only for apartments? what about houses?

    • From memory this lock can detect a fire and will automatically unlock.

    • I was looking for this comment re: Apartments front doors. Clearly all other OzBs all live in houses!

  • +1

Does anyone know if there is a firerating for this lock? I've had my eye on this for a while but I live in an appartment and strata won't give me permission to install without a fire rating for this.

    • +2

As per my post above, it's got no fire rating and thus is illegal for most apartment doors (with the exception of some of those on ground level that are exterior)

I have the Samsung pin door lock from a while ago, looks good and works really well. Installed it myself too.

    • Is that hard to install? how do you make square mortise hole?

      • I have the deadlock version, it's not hard to install. you'll need a drill, holesaw, chisel, screwdriver.
Why do you want a square hole?

      • it was tough, honestly might be worth getting someone. After removing the current door lock i was able to chisel out a bigger hole and drill new holes. i didnt have a deadlock with the current lock so i didnt have that in the way which may have made things a bit easier.

it scrambles first 3 pin touches. and options to scramble each pin. 4 other options to open without PIN too.

These Samsung locks have been around for decades in Korea, much better tried and tested than any local brand you could get.

99% of Korean apartments/houses locks have been digital since 20+ years ago.

Also I like the fact that it is battery operated and not reliant on the house electricity. Batteries last over a year, gives you ample warning and you can open with key or external electrical method. And you can still use it in case your power goes out.

      • The first mention I can find of this lock is 2016 at an IT show, can you share where you have found that it has been around longer?
The latch design is not great at all and its going to be alot harder to find replacement parts than anything that is common localy.
Commenters mentioned previously that it doesn't and the manual doesnt mention scrambling it does mention that you have to touch three numbers before entry though which is ok.
There's good reasons that this not found very commonly in Australia. As highlighted before it's not cost also it's not ease of install either because this isnt very more difficult to install than a common mortice lock.

What because In reply I recieved a bunch of attitude and little creativity?

I bought a Schlage keypad lock from Master when they closed down.

    Only paid $100.

It does have a key as well just in case pin does not work.

What I like about this lock is that that I have to turn the knob (retract the latch) myself after entering the pin.

Many digital locks that fail does that because the part that has to retract the latch 'gives up' .

Do I save time by using this lock?

Yes, probably 8-10 seconds and gain convenience.

I don't have to get the key up when opening the door.

Love this feature when balancing shopping bags etc but would I pay $500 for a Samsung?

If you have money to burn why not ;-)

  • The Samsung keyless pin code locks are great for an office suite where you want the door locked automatically each time someone arrives/leaves but don't want the hassle of a key/swipe card.

For home use I guess you would need to leave your flyscreen/security door unlocked for it to be any point.

So I have the non-biometric version of this and had it for about 5 years, it is a really convenient item and I don't really care about the initial cost. Pin code is super handy and you can program in a spare pin or give them an RFID, say for a guest, which you can then disable after they go. Nice to not stress about locking yourself out too.

However, it will inevitably die meaning it needs to be replaced like for like or the whole door probably needs to be replaced.

I'm really on the fence on whether I would buy one again (I'm 70% each way)…I'd probably recommend looking at something that has some sort of standard which means it can be replaced with soemthing else easily- if that's possible.

    • This is a really good point. I was thinking to use this Samsung lock for front door and Lockly Smart Latch Door Lock With Fingerprint Access for Garage. After reading your comment I am bit confused to use it on my specially ordered costly front door. Possibly I feel its better to use the Samsung lock in the garage and then leave the front door with some good conventional lock.

  • This is a fantastic price for those looking to upgrade their house door locks. I paid almost $700 for mine including installation.

Being able to unlock the door remotely when you have guests coming over is such a useful feature.

    • $700 including installation is a very good deal! where from?

  • +1

I rather spend the money on a remote control door that opens with a press of a button just like my garage.

  • I have the version without bluetooth, but with RFID, PIN and fingerprint, which was about $700. I also have a compatible RFID implant in my hand which is convenient to use and is the faster than PIN, fingerprint and key to open the door.

Another advantage is that it's almost impossible to lock yourself out if you're using a fingerprint or RFID implant.

  • whats your thoughts guys on this wifi doorlock

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/samsung-smart-wi-fi-biometric-mo…

    • This is the new version that has WIFI built-in so you can unlock it from the phone app anywhere in the word. The DP728 on special only has bluetooth, so you obviously have to be in bluetooth range to unlock it. Besides that and the obvious design and styling changes I think all other functionality is the same.

There's also the new DP-609 that's on special for preorder for $799. I don't know what the differences are between the DP609 and DP708 (I couldm't find any) but I definitely prefer the styling of the 609.

      https://digitaldoorlocks.com.au/samsung-smart-lot-doorlock-s…

      • yeah I liked the doorbell feature on this wifi lock, it notifies on your phone etc handy in a big house or two storey home IMO but I'm thinking maybe I'm better off with the $499 lock and buying a $500 wifi doorbell… (cant say I like the look of the wifi door handle/lock)

        • +1

I doubt people would know to use the doorbell on it, otherwise it's a great feature, most people are like WTF is that and are too scared to touch it. I have a camera at my front door and a young real estate agent came to the door cold calling, I was watching her through the camera inspecting the lock like WTF is that, was quite funny.

  • Will this store your biometrics to the cloud?

    • +1

The one on special for $499 doesn't, it doesn't talk to the cloud at all. It will only talk from the app on your phone to the lock via Bluetooth.

      • So say someone forgot their keys and their phone is not registered to the lock. I can't unlock it for them from far away?

  • There is a new Abus micro lock in the market.

Has WiFi, Hotspot, Geo Fencing and sleep mode and wake up mode.

  • just went to go buy one and the listing has been zapped, deals over I guess!

  • @OP, the outgoing link on this deal is broken - it just takes me to the Bunnings website.
Are you referring to the following $499 Samsung bio-metric lock?

    • This is another one but looks like at good price though
