Belong $40 Starter Pack for $20 @ Coles

770

Found this while shopping yesterday

Belong Mobile 40GB Starter Pack Features

  • 40GB Data.
  • Unlimited data banking.
  • Unlimited data gifting.
  • No lock-in contracts.
  • Telstra 4G & 3G.
  • 12 month SIM expiry.

There are 2 great options for using this starter pack. Either way, before you activate make sure you get a promo code from a friend already with Belong or the OzBargain Belong pool for an additional $20 credit.

Option 1 - Start out on the $10/month plan. The first 6 months cost is already covered ($40 starter pack credit plus $20 referral credit). This is a good option for those with modest data requirements (average 1GB/month).

Option 2 - Start out on the $40/month plan. When the first billing day comes you'll already have 80GB data (minus what you already used). Then switch to the $10/month plan. The first 3 months cost is already covered, and you'll have nearly 80GB banked which never expires and can be used or gifted.

Lots of info in these comments regarding best port days, etc. If you want double data the first month then DO NOT port on these dates 4th, 12th, 20th, 28th.

Porting hours of operation are: (taken from Whirlpool wiki)

  • Mon to Fri: 8am – 8pm (AEDST/AEST)
  • Saturdays: 10am – 6pm (AEDST/AEST)
  • National Public Holidays: Closed (Ports are not processed on these days)

If you request to port your number outside operating hours, your service will remain active with your existing provider until the next porting day. That being said, there are Belong mobile customers who've experienced successful porting outside these days/hours mentioned above.

  • Very good options..thank you
Does it utilises full telstra network like boost?

    • +4

Does it utilises full telstra network like boost?

No - only the Telstra wholesale network.
Only Boost and Telstra use the full network

      • Company does belong 100% to Telstra. But crap like that should not belong to the shelves.
Drag it off the shelves and give it to the queens it was invented for.

      • What's the difference?

        • +2

Unknown cell lockout, slower speed, requirement to dial longer number, less free lines in busy times. Fair use policy means they decide what they think is fair. Never 5G just crawling speed.

          • @payless69: Something weird though, Telstra sim speeds where slower for me, belong 30mpbs

        • Coverage and speed. Coverage won't be as good as Telstra, but still better than Optus. Speed appears to be throttled. Optus in good coverage can get 100Mb/s+, but with Belong, I've never gotten more than 30Mb/s.

Boost might have better coverage, but you only get 4GX and 5G with Telstra. I also found Boost's download/upload nowhere near as good as Telstra and Optus.

    • Does it utilises full telstra network like boost?

      No

      They do not belong.

Can people refer them self activating more SIMs?

    • +1

No, you will risk breaching the Acceptable Use Policy and they might close your account. Not worth it if you value your phone number.

      • So are people just activating using the random referral link to get the extra credit?

        • Yes, if you don't know someone (the referrer gets $20 as well) then just use the random referral link.

        • Well they wouldn't know if it was a friend or not really i guess. Long as you have the code. Friend could be coworker even, why they need name number?

      • damn I just did this LOL but only once with one SIM (i.e. referred / gifted from another one of my accounts once, it was that $5 deal for $25 kits a week or two ago). Also its purely for tablet data so IDGAF about the actual number, but it would suck to lose my sweet cheap data.

  • Wasn't labeled as half price at my Coles but scanned at half price

    • Good to know. This price is in next week's catalogue and I thought someone had maybe put the label on too early.

  • Good Price !!!!

  • What's the expiry? I can only use it in June.

    • +5

12 months from the purchase date. But most likely they will be on sale for $15 before then.

      • Cheers

      • +1

Yep, $15 is the number to buy - and get a decent deal. $5 and less (it has even been free in the past) is when it is an excellent deal.

  • Great advice

However cellmate do the 40 starter pack for $15 every so often, then you can price beat it at officeworks. But if u need it now, hey whats $5 ;)

  • Sorry for Option 2 when do you switch to the $10 a month plan? Immediately or after the first months billing cycle?

    • +2

      After 1st billing date.

  • +6

Just so anyone thinking of this is aware, Belong do not have a voicemail service. They only offer 10 second voice-to-text option.

    • +2

Strange feature. Thanks for the warning

      • +1

I only noticed when I read the fine print, only minutes away from porting over to them. It's a bit of a deal breaker for me as i'm sure it is with a lot of others. Just want to get the word out since Belong don't seem to mention it anywhere obvious

  • Does anyone know how long these deals tend to last for? My current Telstra contract doesn't end for another month.

    • Sounds safe to buy.
On back of pre paid sim starter pack says " Credit will expire 12 months after purchase."

  • Kogan starter has better deal $15 , 90 days ,20gb/month

    • +2

Catch Connect starter has better deal $9.90, 90 days, 20gb/month after Cashrewards.

These aren't on the Telstra network though. That's important for a lot of people, and not everyone wants to port back and forth every 90 days.

Also data banks, so you could effectively stay on this for 12 months and it would only cost $110 with 91GB using Option 2. That's better than the Boost deals everyone loves on here.

      • Belong isn't full Telstra network though, Boost is.

        • +1

Belong isn't full Telstra network, but Telstra Wholesale is still easily better than Optus and Voda for regional coverage.

I'm currently in a remote peninsula, sand have had excellent 4G in every town or settlement I've passed through, even a national park.

I will add that Catch is far better than the appalling Kogan coverage.

      • I'll have
        * Full Telstra network
        * Voicemail
        * NRL/AFL
        * VoLTE
        * ViWiFi
        For $135/80Gb
        Over Belong

        • +1

We're lucky there are some good deals to choose from as everyone has different needs.

I prefer not having to pay a large amount upfront. That way it's not a big deal if I burn through 82GB in the first 3 months, it only cost $20 and I can port out. Plus I put 2 family members on Belong and got $40 in referral credit - 4 months/4GB free.

I can't stand any type of voicemail, I always cancel them. If people want to get in touch they will call back, sms, Whatsapp or FB Messenger.

Telstra wholesale works fine for me living in Sydney. I didn't neg you by the way.

Can I get this sim for data gifting to my number?

  • Does anyone know if i can use this for my huawei wifi dongle?

  • Anyone tried porting back in to belong after cancelling their account a few months ago? Were you still able to get a referral credit?

  • Be careful Belong now just disconnect your services randomly if they suspect you are a port in port out port in user or they suspect you have a second MSN on their network. You wont get your number back either.

    • Surely that would be completely illegal and leave them open to litigation.

    • No porting in and out even with a month in between? I assume it's only for promo users but that's probably the majority thanks to their frequent discounts. So bye bye Belong I guess.

I'm hoping for a 6 month Amaysim deal soon or I'll port between Catch and Kogan while the deals are available since I use them for broadband replacement anyway in a second SIM slot.

    • How can Belong just randomly disconnect services for those who might want to port back in after a few months? NBN companies offer no contract services and allow this behaviour so someone explain where this is happening and does it state that anywhere in Belongs T&C that this is not allowed?

  • +2

The main good things about Belong are:

    • Referral credits ($20 for each party) and up to 10. Use the OZB Referral link as pointed out by OP if you need one ($20 credit).
    • Once you avoid activating on 4th, 12th, 20th, or 28th, you get double data credits.
    • It's using most of Telstra's network (so decent coverage in general).

    The not so good parts:

    • App, Web site, services are all sub-par.
    • Best to cancel at least 7 days before the next payment is due and if possible, port out to another provider (otherwise you will need to deal with customer service staff).
    • While coverage might be desirable, download speed isn't that great. It's fine for general mobile usage, but not ideal for big downloads.
    • i am a long time belong customer - the data speeds used to be great (noticed no difference going from Telstra) HOWEVER, over the past 3 or so months the speed and latency have been horrific. I am going to change carrier. I'd say 30% of the time i am left waiting for tiktok videos to load or websites to connect - it's not just a 1-2 second wait, it can be 5-10 seconds!

Can anyone remind me what the best way to use the $80 mobile sim that comes with a new Belong NBN plan is? Some legend posted a guide in a comment to a Boost deal but I can't find it :(

  • +1

I used the ozbargain referral link and it showed the $20 credit when I was creating the request and it mentioned it will be apply when order is complete but after order completion it didnot apply and when I asked support they are asking the name and phone of person who supplied the code along with the code.

    • They're definitely cracking down on referrals…you now need to be on a $25/40 plan to get a bonus.

    • Neither did I receive extra $20 credit after activating $40/month plan with the referral code from OzB. Apparently, this deal is over.

      • False alarm. One week after I finally received the referral bonus without even getting in touch with support.

  • Got an email saying they are extending the unlimited data deal for a further 3 months. Replaced my $59 per month TPG broadband with this and it also serves as my Mobile phone plan as well. No complaints so far!
