Posting for those that missed out on the recent Coles $15 deal and want to take advantage of code BYO50OFF which expires at the end of the year (need to port a number)

$25 Credit for New and $50 Credit for Existing Numbers @ Belong Mobile
Thanks to dealmaker

So for $15 or $20 you can effectively create a 6 month plan with 85GB data.

  • Buy $40 sim for $15 or $20.
  • Activate & port on the $40 plan for the 1st month and get double data - 80GB
  • Move to $10 plan on the 2nd month.
  • Use code - BYO50OFF when activating & porting for $50 credit, - which pays for 5 more months on the $10 plan (code will only work when porting to the $40 plan)

Belong Mobile Starter Pack Features

  • 40GB Data.
  • Unlimited data banking.
  • Unlimited data gifting.
  • No lock-in contracts.
  • Telstra 4G & 3G.
  • 12 month SIM expiry.

Double Data Explained (copy & pasted from Whirpool)

Billing and Payments

Plans are billed on the same date monthly. Initial billing dates are every 8 days (e.g. 4th, 12th, 20th, 28th May 2018). The time between activation and the next available billing date is "free".

One month worth of data is credited on activation, and another on your first payment date, 1-8 days later. So you effectively get double data for the first monthly payment. You can then change to a lower rate plan ($10/month) and use the banked data allowance.

This is better illustrated by example on the Small $10/mth 1GB plan.
If you activate your SIM card on the 4th-11th of August (either using '$20 free credit' by ordering a SIM card using a Promo Code, or without a Promo Code) and pay $10 (without a Promo Code, or use $10 of your free included credit from a Promo Code), you'll be credited with 1 GB of data (along with your unlimited calls/SMS/MMS) for 1-7 days (depending on how close to the 12th of August you've activated your SIM). In your first billing date (12 August), you'll be charged $0. On the second billing date (12 September) you'll be charged $10 (again, free for those who've used a Promo Code). So after the 12 September you would have spent $20 (or used your $20 of free credit from a Promo Code) and if you haven't yet used any of your included data, you should now have a total of 3 Gigabytes of data available to use (all for free using a Promo Code!) until your next billing (data rollover) date (12 October).

  • I wonder if JB Hi-Fi still has it for $15.

I just picked one up from Woolies for $15

    • Thanks, I checked their latest catalogue but could only see the Belong $25 starter pack on special for $10.
      Added to the title.

      • +1

Yeah I saw that one, then was going to go to Officeworks this morning but saw some comments that they still got the $15 one from Woolies last week so figured I'd check since it's closer than OW anyway.

Got it from Woolies 20 mins before you posted. Was expecting the deal to say it was $10 now when I saw it as is usually the way :)

Anymore than $13 is paying too much.

    • Yeah but if you wait for that deal then you miss out on the $50 credit which expires at the end of the year.

If you can find a cheaper deal than $15 or $20 for 85GB 6 months unlimited calls/sms please let me know?

      • @Arthur : if you purchase 2 SIMs, you can (in theory) get 40GB + 40GB on the second SIM and gift the data to the first one i.e. 165GB for 6 months + unlimited calls/SMS, for $30 total outlay.

        • +1

Be careful you don't breach the Acceptable use policy, previous comments say you could risk losing your number.

If you were to buy a 2nd sim then use a family member's name and email. Even still it could be risky because if your contact address is associated with more than one Belong service then that might be considered a breach, depending on how you use those 2 services.

          • @Arthur Dunger: Thanks, I'd read that. I used my own details; it's up to belong if they want to cancel one or both. But good advice.

  • Tried BYO50OFF code with a port in number this morning and it is not working. It shows "Promo code working" after I put the code but the balance did not increase, still $40 (come with the sim pack), rather than $90.

    • I just did it and it says $40 credit, and above it in green said $50 balance remaining after billing, or something to that effect.

    Can't send MMS with belong

    • That's not correct at all. I do it regularly.

    • +1

I’m with Belong and send MMS regularly

      • Me too

    • I replied on an older deal regarding this;
the problem is that some phones are not compressing the pictures taken properly down to the mms sizing.
not sure if its a belong or telstra issue as quick search says it happens on both providers.

Ive found that there are 2 workarounds

      1) try taking a picture within the messaging app rather than taking a picture first then trying to send it.
I find that if the picture is right near the limit of what it can handle this will solve the issue.

however if its not close then
      2) resize the images before sending; either by reducing the resolution in the camera app or resizing afterwards with an app.
its not a resolution issue; its a size issue; I think under 2mb and it works.

      • Ok thanks I will try that.. All the video mms messages I receive are highly compressed/pixelated and almost unwatchable.. Any work around for this?

  • So is it better to activate tomorrow rather than today to get best use of the billing cycle?

  • I just ported from Aldi this afternoon and it took around 5-10 minutes, super speedy.

    • Same experience here coming from Kogan.

Glad the porting verification code is entered on the website not via reply txt since my Kogan plan had expired.

  • I am having a nightmare trying to port from catchconnect. It has been over 1 week since I activated the sim. Catchconnect is positive that no porting request received from Belong whereas Belong insists the details don't match.

Confirmed still $15 at JB HiFi. I bought 2 SIMs this morning @ Perth Enex store.

  • Can someone run me through the steps I need to do?
So far I have 1. Bought the SIM from Woolies. 2. Started the Porting process from Optus and activated the Belong $40 plan.
So once porting has occurred when should I downgrade to the $10 plan? Would that be tomorrow (28th?) or a different day?

    • +5

Depends. Assuming you used the BYO50OFF code when porting you’re number:

      • If your after data, keep it on the $40 plan, then switch to the $10 plan when you have only $10 credit left. You’ll get a total of 121GB and 3 months of access.

      • If your after max access, then you can change to the $10 plan as soon as it has ported as plan changes don’t take affect until the next billing date. You’ll end up with 6 months access and with a total of 85GB.

Note that your service must be active to use banked data.

      • +1

Thanks, that makes sense. It is for my kids, so sounds like if I max the data to 121GB and then downgrade it would then be $10 a month for the rest of the year and that amount of data should cover them for the whole year too..

        • Yep exactly!
Can buy cheap data from eBay and Classifiedstoo

  • Since it doesn't seem like we can use the credit from these to top up an existing account, in 6 months time can we set up a new account and port our number from the old Belong account to the new?

    • +2

I've never heard of anyone being able to port to the same plan (service provider) they are currently using.

Just port out to Catch Connect or Kogan 3 month prepaid plan, then port back in after 3 months.

  • +4

Just a heads up, don't port today as it's the start of a new billing cycle and you may not get double data according to the Whirpool Wiki.

    • +2

Thanks for the heads up. Just picked up a $40 pack for $15 from Woolworths

    • +1

Thanks I just picked up the pack and was about to port in my Kogan number.

Think just be safe and do it tomorrow then.

  • If I have Telstra post paid can I port over to this? Do I need to change to prepaid with Telstra first? Or is a blank sim needed like for boost?

    • Yes you can. Just be mindful of any contract terms or final usage bill or whatever.

  • +1

Just picked up the $40 starter pack for $15 at Woolies, and got activated with the additional $50 credit in less than an hour! Thanks OP and everyone for the detailed instructions, happy 2020!

  • i bought this the other day at woolies but forgot to activate it and port my number - Have i missed out on all the extra credit now?

    • -1

Yes you have missed out on the $50 credit as per the description, but if you switch on your private messages I can give you my referral number which will give you $20 credit.

I will help you with any other questions you have too.

      • Thanks mate, appreciate it. I turned it on
