Could do A LOT worse for the money!

      Comes with a free coronavirus!

      • +1

Great! Because my friends tell me I'm tighter than a-CHOO!

    • But could you do better?

  • +2

This is the single sim version.
The one from JB is dual sim.

    • +1

JB did a price match for 360.

  • Can't see any way to buy outright?

  • +1

Bargain price even for a single sim

  • Camera any good?

    • Can't expect flagship phone photo quality out of this device.

    • Camera is ok, not great in low light

  • Great phone

  • Awesome phone for that price. Need a cheap way to unlock it

    • Why would it be locked?

      • -6

Typically outright phones sold by telcos are locked to their network

        • +10

You've got it the the other way round. Outright phones, as well as phones supplied with a phone contract are never locked. It's only prepaid phones that are locked.

          • -1

@eug: All modern smartphones are unlocked by default thesedays

    • +1

i think outright means unlocked, no mention for unlocking anywhere.

      • +2

I always thought outright means you are just buying the phone, no contract or plan. You can buy a phone outright for it to still be locked to their network?

        • +5

          prepaid phone means locked..

outright for a normal phone shouldn't be locked

        • You can buy a phone outright for it to still be locked to their network?

That's sometimes been the case for low end phones.

  • Option for 'outright' doesn't appear anymore.

    • It does for me

      • +1

        https://imgur.com/nKsQNRO doesn't work

edit: nvm, worked in microsoft edge. odd.

        • +1

Thanks, I thought it was sold out. Switch to Edge as you said.

  • sad…bought the r15 pro recently for 290..this is a lot more phone for 70bucks.

  • Oh sh1t I just paid $400 at the good guys today… I did need the dual Sim version though

  • So whats the consensus on this being locked or unlocked? Looking to get this for my Mum who is on Vaya (optus network)

    • +4

Outright phones are just that - Outright means u own it = NOT LOCKED..

Even still, Vaya is Optus anyway, so it will work 100%

    • Vaya should work either way if it's Optus network

    • +1

Vaya sim will work either way. Source- I bought a network locked oppo from optus and use a vaya sim.

  • Wow a lot of phone for $360

  • How does this one compare to Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro?

    • +4

About $100 more than I paid for my note 8 pro, puts them in different price categories really. But my mum owns the Reno z so I've had a go with both.. cameras and build are comparable. I'd guess that the redmi would match it also in speed/gaming if not beat it. Screen probably better on the Reno but hard to be sure. I had a huge advantage however at the trip to the new Sydney zoo last month, where the 64mp camera meant that I was able to get good shots of the distant animals. The Reno z had no chance. If you can still get the note 8 pro for <$260 I'd say that's the better buy (not sure if AliExpress has any other big deals upcoming, I got mine at 11.11)

  • +1

I just bought a refurb for $360 from ebay last week so FML. I can return it to Allphones for like $10.80 handling plus I have to ship it there, but might be worth it for extra year warranty and original box with case….. decisions.

    • +11

It’s a pain but I would do it. Brand new stock as you say and 2 years warranty. PayPal should refund your shipping if you have that activated

  • +4

Just did price beat at OfficeWorks Virginia :)

    • $342 delivered aye?

      • +2

        $344, I got suckered into a $2 donation…

Worked out well, off to NZ for a couple weeks, probably wouldn't want to order off Optus and have it rock up while I'm out of the country.

        • +2

          Don't forget TRS then!

          • +1

@Wallyt99: Hadn't heard of it, just looked up, seems worthwhile. Is it just meant for stuff that you're not bringing back into the country? Like would I have to says it's a gift for someone in NZ or something?

            • +1

@matictac: Nope, you can definitely bring it back. It's subject to the usual $900 duty-free limit though. If you aren't bringing back more than $900 worth of goods from NZ, you don't have to declare anything.

They also anecdotally take into account depreciation. The value is widely reported to be 20%, so your $342 phone will only be worth $273 (as it's no longer brand-new) for import duty purposes.

    • +1

Same, they are even going to ship it to me since the local store does not have stock.

  • +1

MediaTek processor is the only issue, apart from colorOS.

  • +1

Does this phone support VOLTE/VOWIFI on Boost Mobile?

    • +1

      Yes

      • Cool, thanks. I just moved to Boost and my current phone doesn't. Looks like this is the one to get!

  • are they good with system updates?

    • Don't know if anything has changed, but I had an oppo that stopped updating OTA, though the support website kept updating for security patches at least (and sometimes Oppo apps). I used to download to phone and then manually update.

      • I got an update yesterday OTA on this phone

  • +2

Just bought one thanks. Oppo make grear phones.

  • +1

Tried pricematching at officeworks with no luck as there is not a part number and they were uncertain if it was unlocked.

  • Will this phone work on overseas network Sim card when traveling to Asia?

  • +13

Officeworks Maroochydore refused. Staff member instantly said they wouldnt because it was locked to optus til I pointed out outright phones arent locked. then he claimed he couldnt see the outright option, told him to use edge. he said he didnt have edge on his pc. sigh. then i pointed out the multiple pcs on the floor with edge installed. he reluctantly begrudged looking on one of those and there it was. eventually after careful studying he saw the single/dual sim option and refused on that with great pleasure. i just said i dont need single sim and ill go direct to optus and get it delivered. smug little gimp.

    • +1

They are very strict on their price matching, rightly so from their end I guess.

I was denied because they didn't have the same colour of headphone in stock the other week.

  • +1

I spoke top Optus Live Chat. This variant is PCDM10, if anyone is interested.

It would be hard if the Officework staff have been trained to look for the variants of this model.

  • Anyone know if they would sell it in an optus store or would it be online only?

    • Stores are franchises, deals on line don't reflect in store unless otherwise noted on line that the deal is in store to0

      • They did have it in optus store, however were out of stock.

JB Hifi maroochydore were apologetic and said they couldn't match price as it was $400 cost to them. Fair enough.

Went to JB Hifi Kawana and the legend there matched it right away no questions asked and was very helpful.

Haven't set the phone up completely yet but first signs are good. A little chunkier and heavier than my S8 but otherwise good so far. Especially with Nova Launcher instead of the Color OS theme.

        • +1

There are a few stores run and owned by optus but I think 80 to 90 % are franchises.

There is no way of telling what store type you're at though it is painfull when you can't purchase over net and it should be as easy as walking into a store.

Edit not a big fan of color OS and nova launcher is my default launcher. I try and give others ago which. The 2nd best launcher I have used is TSF launcher which has a lot of innovative designs although it doesn't last long and nova is back.

  • How does this compare with OPPO A9 2020? Price are similar but A9 has a dedicated micro SD slot and higher capacity battery.

    • +2

That phone from a quick look, doesn't have an OLED screen and has a fingerprint reader on the back. Reno Z has OLED which is mandatory for in-screen fingerprint reader.

Also no NFC so no contactless payments. Both these are dealbreaker for me, as I bought Reno Z for gf for valentine's and she has an old iPhone which she uses TouchID to unlock and pay, so anything without that is going backwards!

      • +2

A9 does have NFC even though half the review sites say otherwise.
I know because I have it, from Woolworths mobile.
Loving the camera on the A9 too, and honestly use about 40% battery max per day on a heavy use day.
        Can't fault it.

        • Thank you.

      • Thank you! Helpful information. Time to replace my Vodafone Smart First 6.

    • I think A9 is plastic body and interior cameras. Worth paying a little more for the Reno Z.

  • Will it ever receive ColorOS based on Android 10? Can you use a third party SMS app now or are you still forced to use their messages app?

Based on those two things, I'd probably go with the Redmi Note 8 pro over this. Including the fact TWRP was officially released for the note 8 pro recently.

  • +3

How does this compare with LG V30?

  • They list iPhone 11 64gb for $1188 so you can get that pricebeat by officeworks to get it for $1128.60.

  • +1

    thanks,bought.

wife's iphone 6s plus camera has got intermittent focusing issue, cost of repair would be about(if not more) the price of this phone.

  • How this compare to Pocophone?

    Any downside in this phone?

    • +3

Yeah dawg the processor is much better on poco

      • I will keep my Pocophone then

    • +3

this one has NFC, pocophone doesnt.

  • Really trying hard not to pull the trigger on one of these. How much better than an s7 is it likely to be? Mine still does everything I need it too and seems to have most of the features of this.

  • A bit of n noob question does ColorOS use Google play store? Would it be safe to use for banking apps?

  • This phone is also getting Android 10/coloros7 in q1 2020 apparently. So that's pretty good.

Never sure what the obsession IS with OMAGERD TEH LATEST OS TO BETA TEST

      • Confirmed: no valid reason

  • +3

I tried to price match at JB HI FI but with no luck. The sales person initially said yes but then changed his mind. He said he checked OzBargain and found comments indicating that the version they sell has 2 sim cards while the one optus offers is 1 sim. So he offered it for $400. I went then to Officework and they accepted to price match without any question.

I've never used oppo before but I thought its worth trying it for $342. I was actually impressed with it. It performed similar to or even better than my dying galaxy s8 plus except that the back camera was not as good as the galaxy one. For some reason the front camera is acceptable but the back one isn't great. Though I am very happy with it considering it is 1/3 of the new galaxy price.

    • +1

so you got the dual sim version for $342 from OW?
