133

Was looking through the rewards store when I noticed on the Samsung Galaxy Watch, if you slide the points bar from 10,000 to 20,000 points, the price drops from $360 to $264.

So you can buy a 46mm LTE for $396 from any Optus store, is a $132 discount good value for 20,000 points?

Possibly one of the worst value redemption rates I have ever seen or heard of for QFF points. This is a terrible deal.

      • What do you mean QFF points? These are Telstra points?

        • Well shit, I'm revoking my neg on the basis of my lack of literacy skills!

I don't know what, if any, value that "Telstra" points have. My spidey senses tell me this still isn't a great deal given the 46mm version sold for $299 before Christmas.

@xyron: In terms of value for money, it roughly goes like this:

            • 20,000 Telstra Points can get you 2 Google Nest Mini's for 15k points, and 5k left over.

            • You can then either sell these for ~$30 after fees and delivery costs, or try to sell on gumtree for ~$40. So the real world value is about $60-$80. There was recently a Google Home Hub for 20k points worth ~$110 cash if sold on the market.

So in terms of real world value in cash, it brings this watch to $360 ish.

This is the 4G model, not the Wifi model that was recently sold for $299, so it's actually not too bad of a deal.

This is actually poor value… One point is roughly worth 1.2c

    • One Telstra Plus point is not worth 1.2c…. more like 0.5/0.6c

  • Uhm nope. Don't waste 20k points. They go on sale close to that price.

    • Okay, show me a deal where this 4G model was "close to that price"

  • Fobbing off old stock to unsuspecting and uneducated buyers. No thanks.

  • From the product info on Telstras website:
"This Smartwatch is 4G compatible, however, it does not support our main 4G mobile coverage frequency band . When we switch off 3G in 2024, this device will continue to work but may have limited coverage. For more information visit us at tel.st/goodbye3G"

if you slide the points bar from 10,000 to 20,000 points, the price drops from $360 to $264.

This made me laugh so hard.
What happens if you slide the points bar further? It gets cheaper! Woah, amazing!

    • nope 20,000 points is the sweet spot, next value is 50,000 and only drops off $48 so only worth it at the 20k mark.

A normal sale of the same watch is $299 from ozbargain history, 299-264 = 35, is 20k qantas point worth $35? Even selling the points at a bad rate can net you more than $35 lol.

    • And you would still have 20,000 Telstra Plus Rewards points available.

Where are you getting the $299 price from? That's for the Bluetooth model, this is the cellular model and the cheapest it has been is $360 for the rose gold model.

Better update the title to say that it is the Sim card variant.

Yeah, OP is getting a lot of negs but the reality is that I don't think I've seen the LTE 46mm go on a signjficant sale since it's presale 40% through the EPP. I think I got mine for about 360.

OP needs to change post so it reads 20,000 Telstra points.
FYI A lot of Telstra points were free, ie signing up to Telstra Rewards early and also switching to Direct Debit.

    • Yeah if only they were ever applied in a timely manner! Been waiting since 17 Dec for 10000 points to hit.

      • Mine never came either

On the plus side, I've been complaining hard and got a $20 credit and today another $50 credit

  • Telstra gave me 10000 points for joining rewards and 50000 for signing up for direct debit. So it's not so bad if you grab the bonus points.
