I have a str-da3000es, the sound is awesome, but its the last Sony hi-fi component I will ever buy.

It had a design/manufacturing fault, where they specified a couple of minor capacitors wrong. They even have a service kit for this specific fault. But I had a hard time getting Sony to fix it under warranty. It seems their top of the line ES range means BS these days. And it's soured my view to the point I'm not willing to go there ever again.

Hello Stumo - I am sorry to hear that you had a poor experience with your older model ES receiver.

I can assure you that we have been selling the ES3600 receivers with great success, which I believe is a few models ahead of the one you may have had. We have not had any returned to date, and their sound quality (along with their build quality) is outstanding. On top of that though we also offer a 3 week return period where if you do receive a faulty item, we will happy swap or refund your order without question.

Please feel free to jump on to our LiveChat service if there is anything you are unsure about :)

Yep thats great Maddie. Its nothing personal. I would certainly hope Sony have sorted themselves out by now, the 3000ES debacle did them no favours at all. For the full story you can google "str-da3000ES video dropout", and/or "noise" and/or "low volume". Mine didn't have the widespread noise problem, but it did have the other two problems.

      The basics are:
      1. The receivers (every single one) would drop out their 1080p component video signal after about 1 hours use. It took a few weeks of use to first show up, because a wrongly biased capacitor had to break down first.
      2. Sony basically refused to acknowledge the problem, and this is on their top of the range series too. Sony were shipping back units as "fixed/no fault found" for about a year.
      3. Eventually some independent random electronics technician found the problem on his own receiver and posted the fix.
      4. Sony must have seen this and made an internal fix kit for it, but still refused to recall them, or even fix them under warranty.
      5. Eventually people started getting them fixed under warranty, with a fight.
      6. I had even more of a fight, because I had moved country, and they were trying to weasel out of their "international" warranty, on top of the normal issues people were having to deal with warranty wise. I eventually had to pay the labour to get it fixed out of my own pocket! Sony supplied the fix kit FOC - 5 tiny capacitors about 5c worth - woop.
      7. There is still no fix I'm aware of for the "low volume" problem. They certainly couldn't fix mine, assuming they even bothered trying.

So after all that I have sworn never to go there ever again. I still buy other Sony gear, just not ES Hi-Fi anymore.

Speaking of which, are you going to do be doing a deal on the NEX-5 camera, now that its about to be superseded?

Hey Stumo - Again I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. As for the NEX-5, no deals yet as we have limited stock with still relatively strong demand. If anything comes up though we will be sure to let OzB shoppers know.
