Pennytel Mobile SIM Only Plans: 1st Month Free, No Contract, 20GB

250

First month free on 2, 4, 10 and 20GB plans (obviously there's no reason to go for the former 3).

No contract, so you can port out after the first month (and it's recommended you do so, their regular prices are uncompetitive).

Could be good for a burner SIM or a quick port in and out for any SIM sluts who usually cycle between $5 or $15 plans from Catch Connect and Kogan Mobile.

Must be activated within 2 months (presumably from purchase date, so 26th of April if you order as late as possible on the 26th February). Limited to 2 customers per address.

ShopBack and CashRewards have 8 and 7% cashback respectively. They should track at the regular price.

There is a referral system, but you cannot have a promotion and a referral reward at the same time. Entering a referral number will only reward the referrer, nothing for the referee.

Uses the Telstra Wholesale network (like ALDImobile), not full fat Telstra (like Telstra and Boost Mobile).

$10 credit to referrer and referee.

so we can sign up for free and then cancel?

    • If you wish to cancel, youโ€™re free to do so at any time. You have two options:

      1. Transfer your number to a new service provider. You donโ€™t have to contact us if you are transferring your services as this will be managed by your new service provider.

      2. Inform us you wish to cancel your service. You can do this by contacting our Accounts team on 1300 232 888 or submitting a Help Ticket via your Pennytel Account.

  • Thanks. Will give it a crack.

Signed up. Option for BPay on sign up so no need to change direct debit options post sign up. Easy as so far.

I hope their marketing guy gets a big bonus for all the extra sign ups this month.

  • still can't beat Circles.Life and i've heard bad reps about PennyTel

Just double checking: For the port ins, it wont port right away and would do so only at the time of activation. Right?

    • +1

      From what I can see:

The process to transfer your number will begin when you activate your SIM card. Transferring a mobile number will usually complete within 3 hours, however it could sometimes take up to 2 business days.

The porting hours are set by industry standard and apply to all mobile providers.
      Monday to Friday - 8am to 8pm
      Saturday - 10am to 6pm

      • Thanks mate!

If someone ports to this - can they port out to Boost later or not possible cause Telstra to Telstra can't port?

  • This is postpaid? So is there a credit check?

  • My current plan with Catch runs out on 26th Feb…Would moving to Pennytel for a month be a good idea? and then porting back to Catch again….

    • Iโ€™m doing exactly that (unless thereโ€™s a better offer around).

  • Just out of curiosity, are there any down sides from porting in and out between telcos?
    Besides the time of course.

    • Time, potential issues and your level of patience.

      • Thanks for replying.
Is there any down sides in regards to the telcos seeing your number come and go? Is that the potential issues part? Or is the issues more the porting itself?
Is there a possibility that the porting will get rejected if you port a certain number of times?
Sorry for the questions, i haven't done it yet but want to consider.

        • +1

It can be pot luck, absolutely.

One would hope there is never an issue, but at some point, even if you don't normally have any problems, it'll happen eventually. Someone puts an incorrect digit or letter or something. Maybe that particular day it won't go through on their system… Anything could happen.

So for that reason alone I prefer 6-12 month Sim deals that are good value.

    • If the port of your number fails, you can be stuck without credit for days or weeks before they sort it out.
That's the worst thing that's happened to me.
Also some telcos (like Kogan) won't let you back unless you've been gone for over a month. That can be a pain.

      • Thanks for the heads up. Would be a nightmare.

  • ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ "Could be good for a burner SIM or a quick port in and out for any SIM sluts." ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

    Love a good deal..๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

  • So no good for boost->pennytel->boost?

(To allow me to use the discounted $150 boost deals)

Who should I use for that?

    • Na that'd be fine. Doesn't matter who they use, as long as different companies.

      • Oh ok. So telstra and boost are considered the same company then. That was a special process to port.

  • If I choose to not renew does the plan stay dormant (just receive calls and texts without being able to do anything else) like in Amaysim and Catch connect or do they automatically charge so I'll have to cancel?

    • +1

The latter. This is postpaid. You'll have to port out or contact them to cancel the number. Prepaid (like Amaysim, Catch and Kogan) may have auto renewal to achieve the same effect, but allow you to turn it off.

  • I keep getting multiple errors when I try to order this, which is very confusing when they don't tell me the website doesn't tell me what they are.

I'm wanting to keep my current number (currently with catch), would finding out my account number help?
