142

I just bought a Apple refurbished Ipad Air 2019 from the Apple online store for $659 delivered. They just started selling the Ipad Air 2019 which starts from $659 and the Ipad Mini 5 which starts from $509. Space grey is out of stock.

Remember all refurbished iPad models include (as noted in their webpage):
- The same 1-year warranty as a brand new iPad
- All manuals and accessories
- A new battery and outer shell
- A new white box

    • A new battery and outer shell

Apple are one of the only sellers who legit refurbish anything

    • Looks very expensive compared to what you would pay new?

      • Yeah that's fair, these prices aren't amazing

      Proof?

      • Usually a refurb means a wipe with an oily rag, a second hand item that still seems to work.

        • +1

You want to give proof of any major tablet maker doing this?

          • +1

@deme: I should have been more clear.

            Apple refurbs are like new.

Every other Apple refurb is potential junk as they do almost nothing but a clean.

        • I couldn't find any evidence that Apple's refurbishment process involved an oily rag. Could you please provide some proof of this?

        • +3

Yeah…I have bought 'refurb' from various manufacturers. That have ranged from 3rd party refurbs looking like the item was just dropped at the tip, dirty and not fully functional (EBGames won this dubious award), to more or less as new condition (think refurb offerings from the like of Sennheiser or Bose).

Apple tops them all. Might as well be buying brand spanking new. Only the packaging gives it away. I'm happy for somebody to point out better refurbs of anything, and obviously I haven't dealt with every manufacturer, but from my personal experience these Apple refurbs are the very highest quality.

          • @Banj0: Yep, I've got a refurb 2018 Mac mini, and Apple TV, and both are just like new.

I would have had no idea they were refurbed if I hadn't bought it myself.

You can buy these brand new at a very similar price from wireless 1 here

      For reference, the iPad Air 2019 64GB is $662.15 + $14.50 Delivery = $676.65

Unfortunately iPad Mini 5 64GB isn't part of the eligible 15% off promotion (only the $50 off promotion, making it $549 + $14.50 Delivery)

Friendly reminder that the iPad Pro 10.5 from 2017 is a great alternative to this iPad Air, often found at a similar price. I believe the screen and body are identical, except for quad speakers and the 120Hz panel found on the Pro (which is amazing once you try). The Air does have a newer processor, but with the Pros extra GB of RAM (4 instead of 3), the difference is negligible.

    • I usually find the Pros are a couple of hundred more expensive.

I have never seen a new Pro for $660.

You're right, the new iPad Pro 11 is still more expensive, but I picked up my 64GB iPad Pro 10.5 Refurbished from the Apple Store for $750 almost a year ago. They might be cheaper now. From my experience, Apple Refurbished products are almost as good as new.

        • +1

From mine they're as good as new

        • better than new…. coz they're cheaper!

    • +1

That difference in processor potentially means that you lose a couple of years of continued support, meaning you won't be able to install new app updates after Apple stops providing iOS updates for your device, making it little better than a glorified display.

Granted it will run whatever you already have on there, so if that's OK then sure. But a lot changes in a couple of years.

    • Well, after hearing all the issues with the Ipad Pro's from 2017 with the screen issues local/worldwide. I'll stay away from them. Even brand new replacement Ipad Pro from Apple has the screen issues encountered by many users.

    That's expensive

    • So you found a cheaper price?

    • The same 1-year warranty as a brand new iPad

Brand new iPads from Apple Australia come with a 2 year warranty.

    • -1

Unless I missed something…..2 years under Australian Consumer Law but Apple's Limited warranty is 1 Yr for Ipad or if you have Apple Care protection its 2yrs.

      Apple 1 Yr Limited Warranty

      Apple Products & Consumer Law

      • No, this is a myth.

You have at least three years in my opinion, apple does forecasts assuming a product lifespan of 3 years https://www.apple.com/environment/pdf/products/ipad/iPad_PER…

The ACL does not state "two years" anywhere in the Act. It says goods must be lasting, that they must last a reasonable time.

        • The two years is provided by Apple for ACL equivalent remedies (and acknowledges that the ACL may provide remedies beyond 24 months for a number of products). It doesn't seem to list any specific products so this may actually be more beneficial than the ACL in certain circumstances.

      • Stand corrected. I thought I recall Apple getting into some trouble in Australia for pushing apple care to extend the warranty out to 2 years when Australian models were 2 by default.

    • No 1 year, never seen Apple sell anything with 2 years

  • This is the normal price for refurbished models.

  • +2

They offer 24 months interest free via credit line if that interests anyone

    • -4

      It might interest poor people…

Price matched Big W (https://www.bigw.com.au/product/apple-ipad-air-wi-fi-64gb-sp…) out of stock down to $692 for iPad air 64GB @ office works. OW didnt check if it was in stock - just looked at the website. Not cheapest, but cheapest i could find in Australia and can claim GST.

  • Awesome. Just picked on up.
