    Doesn’t cover pandemic, no deal.

    • Mind pointing out where you read this? I just bought ING Travel Insurance, and it does cover. I'm still within the 14 days cooling off period, so I'm still shopping around.

      • Mind pointing out where you read this?

It's been on the radio today.

          https://www.moneymag.com.au/coronavirus-travel-insurance-

"Some companies, such as Columbus Direct, Go Insurance, InsureandGo, Tick Travel Insurance and Travel Insuranz, will pay a benefit should you need to cancel your trip due to government restrictions (after a pandemic).

However, your policy must have been purchased before a warning was issued for your destination."

I'm going to the USA. There're no travel bans now. However, if shit does hit the fan, and travel bans are imposed, I'd like to be covered, and I'm guessing it is, even with InsureandGo, since it is before a warning is issued for USA (https://www.smartraveller.gov.au/destinations/americas/unite…).

            @Ameowzon:

I'd like to be covered, and I'm guessing it is

I'd want to be more than 'guessing', before I selected them.

            • @jv: Here is the ING PDS: https://ing.disconline.com.au/branding/resources/EXIG/legal/…, last line in on page 19, "You being unable to travel because of travel restrictions imposed on you after an epidemic, terrorist attack or natural disaster."

            • +3

@jv: I called them and I was told that as of 1st of Feb they "don't cover for it anymore" - whatever it means.

I purchased my travel insurance earlier and was going to compare with this mob but …

              • +3

@and: How funny. "As of the recent pandemic, we no longer offer cover in the case of a pandemic"…

              • @and: Who did you call? ING or InsureandGo?

                • +1

@Ameowzon: "If you bought your policy after 4:00pm AEST on 31st January 2020, you will not be covered for claims related to the Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). It would be expected the policy was entered into with awareness of the virus and its developments." - for Insure&Go

  • You little ronnie coote! Was just about to buy through this mob for my upcoming trip to South Korea and Japan.
    Thanks OP!

    • What about North Korea?

      • +1

        What about it?

        • +10

          It lacks Seoul…

          • +3

            @jv: For now

  • Not to be confused with Good 2 Go Travel Insurance… consistently rated one of the better travel insurance policies to get.

    • Consistently?

      • Yep. I've been a member of Choice for a long time, and as long as I can remember they've always had the highest recommended rating (inclusions exclusions etc).

        Insure&Go isn't bad, but Good2Go is better.

  • I’ve book a trip to japan from the 20th of March for 2 weeks. It’s with southern China airlines which has a 4 hour stop over in Guangzhou. I read my credit card insurance terms and conditions which states I can’t get a refund for cancellation. Is it too late to buy insurance now and potentially claim if matters get worse?

    • When did you buy the flights?

Hard to explain no travel insurance purchased weeks ago, then just before flights you buy it and then cancel them.
Read T&C's of the travel insurance, but I reckon you got buckleys.

      • Bought the flights on the 3rd of Jan.
A bit worried since it’s likely to be cherry blossom season and will be packed with tourists.

        • +1

Give them a call. Or better, email them.

  • Had flights to bali for a while now. Flights are for May.

If we got travel insurance now and cancelled closer to the flight because of a pandemic would I be covered?

    • +2

Last time I went to Bali there was a volcano about to erupt. Contacted insurance and they said they had a cut-off date, if you purchased insurance before that date you were covered, if you got it after that date you weren't. Only way to find out would be to ask the insurance company directly.

    • See my comment above. Also, note that this mob has 2 weeks cooling-off period.

  • Dammit, a few weeks too late for me.. 20%off would have been nice…

Fear of travel is not something any policies cover (eg. due to current outbreak).
But, they are covering the current outbreak in China for those that purchased prior to certain cut-off dates.

    examples
    https://www.insureandgo.com.au/travel-alerts/update-global-c…

    excerpt (travel other than China)
•If you bought your policy after 12:00am AEST on 21st January 2020 and before 4:00pm AEST on 31st January 2020, you will not be covered for cancelling your trip due to change of mind or fear but you may be covered for claims directly related to travel delays as a result of quarantines at major airports directly related to the Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Please be aware our policies only cover connecting flights where the stopover was originally scheduled on your itinerary for more than 6 hours.

  • anyone used this mob? any good? I've had a bad run with travel insurance with TID. Travelling to Vietnam and Singapore in April

  • Thanks OP, was 50% cheaper than TID who I usually use and has a 50% higher rental car excess cover!

  • Next to useless if you buy it now:

"If you bought your policy after 4:00pm AEST on 31st January 2020, you will not be covered for claims related to the Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). It would be expected the policy was entered into with awareness of the virus and its developments."

    • +1

There is probably a greater chance of losing your luggage than catching Coronavirus.

Will they stop covering you for loss of luggage because ' It would be expected the policy was entered into with awareness of luggage loss.' ???

      • +3

        Hmm…
Could home insurance stop covering people who live in certain suburbs because "It would be expected the policy was entered into with awareness of home invasion"?

        • yes, they could do that once the rate of home invasion related claim from those suburbs exceed certain threshold.

        • Different model. The increased risk of your post code is factored into your premiums.

  • +2

    Ha!

I purchased my insurance from Wolrd2Go on 22nd of Jan, and guess what I found?

"If you purchased your policy after 7am (AEST) on 20th January 2020 –

Our policy does not provide cover for any event you were aware of before your policy cover commenced. If you purchased your policy after 20th January 2020, we would expect this was done with knowledge of the current event and therefore there would be no coverage for any claim which was a result of this event."

    Next to useless as well…

Having said that, I wonder if they didn't have that restriction at the time of purchase and they just back-dated it, would I still get I chance if things change to worst?

  • +2

    @and
I'm going to fallback on my credit card insurance. I booked my flights before the virus became global news.

$200 excess to claim with these guys

    • Can be reduced to $0 for a fee.

      • +1

        Is that fee $200? :)

        • Its about $25.
Remember excess is billable on each event for each person on the insurance certificate. Its worth the $25 extra.

          • +1

@Austaurean: It's additional $160+ to reduce excess of $200 to $0. It's for 4 people for a period of 6 weeks. Definitely worth it if I have at least 1 claim, but it brings the premium up to $660. This is ING by the way…

  • +1

I did 4 people 7 nights with insure and go. It cost me about 25 extra to zero the excess. Paid $130'ish all up.

  • So which one can I get for USA central america trip next month? budget direct travel has the same clause regarding corona

    • Pretty sure everything else is covered, just if you get the virus it's not…

They can't really relate your stolen luggage to the corona virus lol

    20% off still works

    Current info:
Cover for COVID-19 is now available in Domestic and One-Trip International Policies (Silver and Gold). Find out more here. As the Covid-19 situation continues to evolve, check our latest travel alerts here before buying a policy.
Please note due to the current conflict in Ukraine, our policies exclude coverage for any trips to Russia, Ukraine or Belarus until further notice.

    20% off still working.

  • Still going strong! Thank you cdawgz. Just goes to show, whenever there's a promo code field, it's worth a Google.

Shame I can't vote it up for being too old.

  • +1

    Code worked for me today.

  • Code still works! Used today. Thanks OP!

  • +1

Still working! Looked at a whole bunch of covers and this was the cheapest with good Covid coverage. But many companies have a clause that states it will not cover covid if purchased within 21 days of leave date. So make sure you purchase more than 21 days before you leave! Other companies also have covid coverage but cost a LOT more eg covermore…

  • +2

Code still works in October 2022
