30 day warranty. no thank u

  • +7

    yeah, 30 day warantee+referb… /shudders/

  • they should pay you for going through the troubles later on

  • Would rather pay the extra $ for the newer revision. No doubt these are old versions which were plagued with problems!

  • fail refurbished seconds… flash memory chips!! stay clear!!

Refurbished….30 day warranty on an item that has already failed, and has a high failure rate in general.

Woudn't the liekly failure be related to a bad firmware flash or the like? How else could these drives fail but then be brought back to life? It's not like some of the ram chips failed and then they took them apart and replaced parts. Surely that is not a worthwile exercise. I assumed these are units that newbies bricked and Corsair brought back to life.

      Am I missing something here?

good firmware is not neccesarily compatible with older drives.
these series had high failure rates in general and slowed down significantly over time

with SSDs its always best to buy new drives and flash them to the latest firmware. In general always do your research before buying them. intel and crucial in general produce more consistently reliable drives.

its best not to be an early adopter for this kind of stuff. also 30 day warranty is pointless because the drive will be more likely to fail or deteriorate after a few months.

    Refurbished….

Notice how they never have refurbs on Intel or other good ssds. Says it all really.

Don't these things have a limited number of writes as well, its a no for me.

Linke Computer - give them a miss. I ordered two refurb USB sticks off them with 30 day warranty. One of them pulled its head off after being taken out of the back of my Mac. No, I did not mistreat it, as they claimed (no one else has returned one so you must have done something wrong). I can understand their attitude (kind of), but I'm always very careful with my USB sticks.

Anyway, I sent back to get fixed. When I got it back they had literally taken some crappy glue and stuck it back together. Of course it fell apart again as soon as I put it in and took it out. According to Linke Computer, too bad. They had "fixed" it and they wouldn't do anything else. When I emailed Corsair, they agreed to fix it in the US, free of charge.

    So Linke Computer? Stinky Computer.

What a shame. This seems like a really good deal, I just want a few cheap SSDs to use for scratch drives (paging file, temp data etc) and don't care too much about reliability but "customer service" like that completely kills it for me. Thanks for the heaps up.

Corsair recalled this specific model due to hardware problem. Be careful:

  • i would not trust a refurbished ssd for my storage, i think its worth more then a few dollar that i suggest u pay alittle more and get something new

    • +2

You shouldn't be trusting SSD for storage anyway. Cheaper, larger capacity, more reliable platter-based hard drives for storage, SSDs for transient storage and performance.

  • I had one of these, and it died suddenly after 6 months of use. Now its a 2 week wait for warranty inspection. This deal is not worth the risk IMHO

    • The Corsair Force 3 Series was not even released 6 months ago. Sure it was the same drive?

  • Looks like I wont bother then… Thanks guys - Can someone recommend a better one?

I put one of these drives into my laptop (serial no. was not from recalled batch).
Am still getting stability issues/BSODs even after the latest firmware upgrade.
You just need to examine the Corsair Forums to see how many people are having issues.
Sorry, if these drives were free, it still wouldn't be a bargain.

You're a bit exaggerated, if they were free, we wouldnt have this conversation…

what price can you put on your data/time to rebuild the OS?

probably a fair point, but still…

        • What price can you put on lost/unsaved data?
I get your point. Just sharing my experience and I've yet to see people write about their positive experiences with this drive…

  • Only 30 days of warranty means $141 dollars wasted. Unfortunately I'm not joking.. this drive will die on you

Crap.. clicked the wrong spot. Wanted to vote -ve

  • For someone awaiting their third SSD in 1.5 years of usage, I definitely recommend against this deal.

  • I've gone through 4 SSD drives in the last 2 years. They die after 6 or so months of usage. I would recommend everyone get a drive with at least 12 months warranty.

  • Been comtemplating on getting an SSD drive but after reading some of the comments here I think I'd better wait a couple more years until the technology is more mature.

    • they are fine, just do some reading to make sure you get a decent one…

      love my 2 SSDs
