I want my 10k points for Velocity gold promotion dammit!

  • Is it 15% or 20% bonus?

    • 20%

      • +3

I got email from velocity and it's 15% so it must be targeted.

        • I got the email that it is 15%, I transferred the points and it immediately transferred the points with a 20% bonus.
So the email might be wrong. They have also sped up the transfer process as it used to take a couple of days to transfer.

          • @solidsnek: I got a 15% bonus when transferring, not 20

            • @Dex: Scratch that… I got a 15% bonus AND a 20% bonus and today received an e-mail… apologising.

    • +4

I received an email from Velocity that it's 15%.

Flash offer, get in quick! Transfer your flybuys points to Velocity between 18 February 2020 and 25 February 2020 and get 15% bonus Velocity Points*.

I guess the 20% might be targeted.

    • -1

I ended up with both - so i got 35%!!

  • +4

I remember when they forgot to cap the amount of flybuys you could transfer across to Velocity. So dude in AFF was able to transfer across 2 mill+ flybuys points in one go.

    • -2

So dude in AFF was able to transfer across 2 mill+ flybuys points in one go.

Wow, he must have bought a lot of soya yogurts at Coles !!!!

    • +1

They used to remove cap during big promotion, my friend once rang them been told that.

      • +1

I've only ever seen the cap removed once.

  • +4

Could this be targetted? No promotion coming up for me.

  • +1

No Emails or no mention of it in my Flybuys, targeted?

  • +1

I got an email from Virgin FF for 20%

  • +1

Not sure how but I'm getting both.

  • +1

    Targeted!

  • +8

At what stage does your Velocity account attract suspicion that you are trading points with random cousins and they kill your accounts?

    Asking for a friend.

    • +1

I misread and thought you said

At what stage does your Velocity account attract suspicion that you are trading points with random cousins and they kill your cousins?

      • +1

Hahaha sorry for that. I'm not familiar with the murder industry, I'd imagine it'd be at least in the millions?

      • That would be a pretty severe penalty.

  • +3

Just transferred 60000 points from flybuys and got,
    26100
    15% - 3915
    20% - 5220
So a total of 35235 velocity points from 60000 flybuys points.

    • Me too, got extra 15%+20%.

    • +2

So 60K points is worth $300 in Coles redemption. What's 35K velocity points worth? Pointhacks estimates velocity points to be 1.8c per point so approx $630 depending on where you fly. Looks like you can only fly about 3600miles so a trip to Bali and slightly beyond but not quite enough for Singapore.

  • +1

Which one is good in terms of $ value?

    • Not worth it if you dont really fly with virgin Australia.

      • Thanks buddy

  • +1

    I got 15%+20% extra

    I don’t know why

    • +2

I didn’t receive the offer and it doesn’t appear on my flybuys app. But tried anyway and got both 15% and 20% bonus.
Wonder if they will take them back?

      • Does it show on the confirmation screen or did you only see the bonus points after it was processed?

        • +1

After processed. Under velocity transactions list

          • @bbqwer: Thanks :)

          • @bbqwer: After processed, I did a heap of 2000 point transactions.
Arrived each time in velocity app.

  • +1

Sounds good but what is the point to transferring Flybuys points to Velocity points? I usually just convert Flybuys points to spending dollars (Coles, Kmart) or vouchers. Comes in handy at Xmas.

    • +1

If you don't intend to travel then just get spending dollars.

    • +2

To fly Singapore airlines business class

    • +5

Getting vouchers or spending dollars is the easiest way. If you have 100,000 flybuys it will give you $500. With this deal, those flybuys points will give you 43500+6525+8700=58725 velocity which can give you two business class tickets between BNE and SYD and I guess that is worth more than $500.

      • +1

Its roughly one way business class to Singapore and it worth around 4k at least.

        • +4

Worth $4K only if that's the price you would be prepared to pay in cash for the business class seat to Singapore. If this is never going to happen (you would never pay that much in cash), then the points won't be worth $4K. You can't call it a savings if you would never spend that much in the first place.

Points are worth however much you are prepared to pay in cash for flights.

      • Thanks for the info. Checked and only 13,000 Flybuys points left atm. I swap for the occasional gift card too while shopping at Coles. I rarely fly anywhere and don't think I have enough points to transfer.

  • +2

i just went to transfer but my account doesn't have anything about a 15% or 20% bonus

  • Got an Email from AMEX for 15% bonus too. Waiting for ANZ to match with an additional 15% for a 30% total.

  • +2

Is there a bug or something as I got bonus points twice one @ 15% and another one @ 20% for the same transaction.
    Get in quick folks!!

  • +7

Same as others… No email received and nothing showing in flybuys login.

Trasnferred 2000 flybuys 870 velocity to see what happens.

    In velocity statement shows 870 points + 131 (15%) + 174 (20%)

    • +1

Nice! I took a punt myself (no email advising of either offer) and had the same result, instantly.

  • +1

also got 15% and 20% bonuses.

  • +1

    Got the e-mail.

    Transferred flybuys 124,000 points

    Got 53,940 plus 20% bonus 10,788 plus 15% bonus 8,091.

Now, how to spend 164,000 velocity points….

    • +1

Easy. Sell it for $1640 lol

      • People actually sell their points? Is it even transferable?

  • Only received 15% email, tried 2000 PT and got both as well

  • +2

Didn't get an email either but transferred 108,000 and got 15%+20% bonus. Did a 2,000 test first to make sure as well.

  • Yep - Was saving them up and waiting for this 2 for 1 deal, but an extra 20% - oh even better -

    Thanks OP

    Had 46000 flybuys point.

  • Got the email - transferred 108,000 points. Got a bonus 20% and 15%.

  • +1

    No email
    Got 15%+20% bonus

  • If only you could transfer flybuys to another flybuys account.

  • If I do at some stage intend to use my velocity points on flights then this is the best way to spend my flybuys right?

    • sure it is. Have never seen deal like this between velocity and flybuys

      • Sweet - only had 14k to send but it's better than a kick in the nuts and tbh I forgot I even had them.

    • +1

Yep. The only risk is if Virgin collapses in which case the points will be worthless and you'll have missed out on your $10 Coles shopping rewards.

  • Yeah I just got a 15% + 20% bonus. Should I transfer more? Will this end in tears? Or just lots of points?

  • +1

Clearly a glitch! Now the question is will Velocity claw back the extra points issued?

    • You would have to say they will for sure.

  • Bang got 15% + 20% as well.

  • Also received 20% + 15% booyah! Surely they can't reverse it

  • As above no email and got the 15% & 20% bonus. Shame I only have 10,000 to transfer.

  • Use it/Sell it before they reverse the points

  • I got the 20% email. Transferred 16,000 flybuys. Got both the 15% and 20% bonus. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Mine is 20%

  • +1

no email, transferred and got 20%+15%. thanks op!

  • What are the chances they reverse the bonus points due to system glitch

  • Didnt get an email as far as we can tell but tranfered and got bonus - happy days

    • could you tell before transfer it was going to happen or was it a surprise?

      • +1

Did small transfer first to confirm like others mentioned.

        • thanks

  • Must be targeted or an issue with the Flybuys displaying the bonus?

  • Got an email advertising +15%, but got 15% and 20% bonuses. Cha-ching!

  • OK. Finally did my first transfer into my Velocity account (I had to link the Flybuys first - I assume that is how it is done).
I have 4,864 miles under KrisFlyer - which can link / migrate over to Velocity. … but the minimum seems to be 5000 to do this :/
Would it be worth can I even do a minimum points conversion from Velocity to Kris to get it high enough to then bring all the points back over to Velocity?
New to this stuff .. points ratios between places is odd… plus I'm not sure what I'll use them for (overseas travel I guess .. so would moving to Kris be better who points last the longest … so many questions)

    • +1

Since you're in Perth, might be better saving up KrisFlyer miles if possible.

Only 20,000 miles to go Perth to anywhere in SE Asia in economy, or 36,500 miles for business class (absolute bargain).

That's potentially two flights for that price - Perth to Singapore and Singapore to your final destination.

Converting between Velocity and KF means you lose a big chunk each transfer. Since you have 4,684 KF miles already, save up 49,315 more Velocity Points and transfer them over to KF and you'd have enough for your business class trip.

      • Unless you're heavily invested in Velocity it may be worthwhile converting to KF, and waiting for the next KF Spontaneous Escapes sale. Velocity redemptions also tend to attract higher fuel surcharges and taxes than Krisflyer.

        • +1

Don't transfer to KF and wait. Keep them in VA and wait, then transfer to KF if and when a good deal comes up.

KF miles have a hard expiry (3 years), VA have no expiry (as long as there's activity on the account every 18 months, which is far from difficult). And transfers between the two are instant.

          • @jasonb: I don't have Velocity account yet, but having 80K in Flybuys. Wonder whether I should try this conversion, hoping for a business class flight to Singapore.
So, regarding the expiry date, what's the definition of "there's activity on the account every 18 months", does a transfer of points from Flybuys count as an activity?
            Thanks

    • +1

Transfer 5000 VEL to KF and get 3226 KF points, add your 4864 KF (8090) and transfer them back to VEL and end up with 5161 VEL plus 90 KF.

ie. Use 5000 VEL to get an extra VEL 161 points. Virgin will love you.

  • +2

Really hate how there is a cap of 138k points but loving this promo. Got 81k velocity points for 138k flybuys so bonus is 35%.

I think this is the highest bonus.

    • -1

      if it sticks

  • +1

Didn't receive any email so I tried 4000 flybuys and got 15%+20% double bonus points.

  • +1

Confirmed working even though I wasn't targeted.

  • +2

Transferred from FlyBuys to Velocity (got the 15%+20% double bonus), and then to KrisFlyer.

Just like the good old days before the Velocity/KrisFlyer conversion rate changed from 1:1.35 to 1:1.55!

I wonder what happens if they try to reverse it, given my Velocity balance is nearly empty. :D

    • +3

Just emptied my account to wife account.

Reckon they will struggle to get them back

      • Interesting. If i transfer to my partners account and back again after say 6 months, will it be flagged?

        • This deal will cease very soon when they realise and will be very interesting if they try to get the points back.

Given their business model is in real trouble I doubt they will worry.

          The biggest risk is

          a.. Virgin disappears.

          b. your partner disappears.

          c. Both of above

          • @IanC: They had Citibank promo for 30% bonus back then.
I think 35% bonus is not really over the top

  • Not targeted. Did a normal transfer through website and got the double bonus.

    Thanks OP

  • +1

If you don't spend the velocity points on flights, this doesn't appear worth it?

    2000 points = $10 at Coles
    2000 points = 870 velocity points (+15% +20%?)
Gift vouchers in the Velocity store are ~1800-2500 for $10.

    • +3

      flights is where it's at.

    • That's right, it's best if you are going to spend it on flights. Otherwise better to just get money off at Coles.

      e.g. 14,000 Flybuys Points = $70 off at Coles

      or, 14,000 Flybuys Points = 6,090 Velocity Points (+ 913 [15% bonus] + 1,218 [20% bonus]) = potentially 8,221 Velocity Points.

A basic economy reward flight starts from 7,800 Velocity Points.

Short domestic routes tend to be quite expensive with cash, but still only 7,800 points. E.g. Sydney to Canberra maybe $150+ with cash, or 7,800 points + $44 taxes. You would end up ahead if you needed to/wanted to fly and were going to pay for it.

Plus, reward seats are much more flexible than cheap economy fares - you can change or cancel them for a small penalty.

      • apparently the 'real' $ magic occurs when you use points to get upgrades to Business
