ALDI Mobile 1 Year Super Pack $99 (Unlimited Calls and SMS + 15GB Data)

1850

Hi guys, my first post, but a silent OzBargainer over many many years. I love this community. I've been waiting for this deal for a while. I have a business phone which doesn't leave the premises so I don't really need the data so this deal was perfect for my needs. I think this is the cheapest I know of alongside the $150 Woolworths and $135 Belong deals if you don't need the data. A shame I bought the Woolworths one a week earlier. I'm trying to retire all the crappy tpg (Vodafone) mobile services I have. The reception is just terrible.

Can confirm it is on the telstra network. Where I live (Sydney city area), the reception on this is many times better compared to my Optus and Vodafone service.

Good deal if you don't need a lot of data. I am using this.

    • +7

Why wouldn't you pay $36 more and get 80GB data? (Refer to Boost mobile).

      • +12

120 gb data as of yesterday

        • What did they increase the data recently???

      • +36

Why pay more for data you won't use?

        • Just in case/insurance. When I went to hospital I had to shell out for big data packs. Now I keep one spare.

          • +4

@Skinnerr: How much extra per year do you spend on your "spare"? How many years have you had the "spare"? How much extra did you spend on the data packs?

        • +4

There's also Boost being on the full network, that alone may matter to some.

        • You think you won't use but if circumstances change you'll pay a lot more. Always get more data than you think you'll need - you don't want to have to watch or manage your data because you thought "I won't use it".

          • @sim36: ALDImobile offers data add-ons through the app which is perfect for this type of situation

      • +4

Because I don't need a lot of data. I don't even use the 15GB data for the year on mobile. I do all my streaming on WIFI

        • Nbn is terrible in Australia. Outages all the time. Then you’d wish you had more data to tether off for when nbn goes down for 3 days

      • Link please

        • Currently I am not sure if $135 offer (RRP is $150) is available on any website but it comes very regularly on different websites and Coles.

      • I'm still waiting for my Boost SIM to be delivered. Ordered Jan 27!! I had to buy more credit to cover in the meantime. They refused to reimburse me.

        • Too many people joining Boost. They said they have SIM delivery delays.

      • +1

Because you get data rollovers on this ALDImobile plan. People who don't use it much will have heaps to use the next year (20+ GBs).

    • Is this just Sydney? Melbourne stores don't seem to have it :(

  • +10

Can confirm it is on the telstra network.

Not all of the telstra network, though. Some rural areas are excluded. Only mentioning this so those traveling or living in the bush can check first.

    • +10

And even then, all of the Boost\Telstra network has less coverage in some areas. My place up on the escarpment between Toowoomba and Crows Nest gets better Vodafone and Optus coverage than Telstra (often no signal on Telstra)…+ in my home in Brisbane 1 bar Telstra, 4 bars Vodafone and Optus…don't believe all the advertising!

      • You don't get constant coverage across the major highways with Telstra Wholesale. Only on the full coverage Telstra networks including Telstra and Boost.

    • From https://www.canstarblue.com.au/phone/boost-mobile-vs-telstra-phone-plans-compared/

In fact, Boost is unique among MVNOs in that it’s the only one to use the full Telstra network. Others use only parts of it and may not offer the same level of coverage, especially in rural regions.

However, where Boost differs is that it does not use Telstra’s full ‘4GX’ speed capacity, and has a speed cap on the 4G network – 100Mbps. So although you’ll still receive the same level of coverage on Boost as you would on a Telstra plan, your speeds won’t be quite as fast.

Sorry, this info is about Boost, not ALDI, which is the target of your message. I messed up.

  • +14

My brain automatically read 15gb/month. My bad.

    • +1

anybody tell me if the 15gb total would last entire year for Find My Phone feature?

      • +7

Yes, and you would probably have 14.9gb left by the end of the year. Find My Phone just sends pings and GPS coordinates.

      • +1

Should do; I haven't reset my stats since 1 Nov 2018 and System Services have used 1.4GB of data.
If your phone was literally never on WiFi that would be higher though.

        • +2

Each time your phone sends/receives data, the data is added to the total for each 10 minute period, IIRC. To add insult to injury, the bits send and received are also charged in increments of 1024 bytes.

So during that time, if you send and receive say 2 bytes you get charged the same as you would for 1024 bytes. So if you don't use data for anything else, an app like GPS which leaves a trickle of little UDP datagrams behind you will cause you to get billed far more than you might otherwise expect if you add up the amount if data the app will actually consume over an extended length of time.

It used to be worse, until the regulator stepped in, some mobile providers charged in 1MB increments, not 1kB. Very few people that don't read the fine print or didn't comprehend the difference copped major bill shocks

  • +5

    Great post. Keep them coming!

    • +2

Will do my best! I'm currently on the lookout for cheap Philips AirFryer XXL digital. I know if you get the right person in JB HiFi you can get it for $399

But I want it at low $300s because I've seen from the posts they can be at that price!

  • +3

    You missed it :)
That deal was posted in December, was in store from 11 December, while stocks last and is marked as expired.
There were no reports of people finding stock after December in that thread.
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/502745

    • +2

I did miss the 11 December offer! But I bought two of the packs today. At Aldi Broadway in case anyone is wondering. You have to go up and ask the staff because they kept them in the office (not sure why).

      • +1

Didn't realise there were any still in store.
The previous deal was marked as expired and is closed for comments so no-one can post where they find stock.
Posting where stock is still available would be useful as they are hard to find.
Did they indicate how many more they had at Aldi Broadway?

        • Sorry mate,i didn't ask. I considered myself lucky I got away with 2 today. I was really annoyed at myself last time when I missed the December offer. It was only Friday (Aldi releases their specials on Wednesday) and it was all gone by then. Must have been Ozbargained! I made sure I posted a few minutes AFTER I bought it.

I would think there are some left, because it wasn't obvious it was on sale unless you walked up to the glass cabinet (the one with all the electronics specials) and looked in. It definitely wasn't in this week's catalogue

          • @SillySorjai: The link you posted was for the 11 December offer not a new one.
If you went to the same store that ran out on 13 December they may have got extra stock or returned stock and kept it in the office.

            • @GCSteve: Sorry about that, I couldn't find a more relevant link on their website. I did take a photo of the glass cabinet to be sure! I don't know how to post that, I thought I did but the link somehow overrode that

              • @SillySorjai: If there was stock in the glass cabinet and your two superpacks came from stock in the office then the Broadway Aldi store still has stock and can get Ozbargained again :)

How many were in the glass cabinet photo?

                • @GCSteve: Just the one. They got the stock from the office. I've never really seen them open the glass cabinet, but you could argue their stock levels is at least one :)

I'm a pretty frequent Aldi shopper so I really notice changes in their products / specials.

Anyone notice they don't stock the frozen honey Parsnips anymore? They were mind blowingly awesome!

                  Same with the salmon pate!

  • +1

Wish it included unlimited international calls to some countries like Boost Mobile has.

    • maybe look at this lebara plan 6 month $105, will cost you double over 12m, but you get more of everything 12GB per month & unlimited calls to 30 countries

  • Isn't there a $5 per year Aldi option or something?

    • yes PAYG

    • +5

Yes, you can buy a sim pack in store or online for $5 which includes $5 credit. It will remain active for 1 year.

I just bought one for my Mum and put it in an old iPhone 5S. Turned off data because it will be used for receiving calls & sms.

  • I would pay a little more for boost and 80gb

      • i only just got a boost the other day, i wonder if i will still get the 120gb when i activate

The package doesnt say anything about gbs only $150 pre-paid sim

      • I think that you have to pay $150 at Boost to get that. I don't think it will work if you buy it somewhere else where you might grab it for $135. The comments on that deal suggest Boost support staff are giving conflicting advice. You might argue $36 is only a little more, but $51 is about 50% more.

        • +1

So long as it’s the same product code it should activate with the bonus same as a Boost bought pack.

  • +1

Once on the plan you can top up with these data packs:
    $15 for 3GB,
    $30 for 20GB &
    $60 for 70GB

    • In which case you get 35GB from Aldi for $129 or 80/120GB from Boost for $139/$150 or 90GB for $159 vs 80/120GB for $139/$150.

Definitely not a good deal if you need any more than about 1.25 GB or so a month

    • you only sign up to this sim if you literally never use data, otherwise thats how they get you buying top up packs

  • +2

I've been on this for over a year, recently renewed it for another year. The reception is great. We are in a dead spot and can only get reception with the Telstra network. I've had no reception issues since I've been with Aldi. I mostly use wifi, so I find the data to be all I need.

    • +1

Same. Just renewed and had 2gb rollover so now have 17gb/365.
I’m mainly on wifi at home and work, but when driving use Aldi data for Spotify and Waze and phone calls on CarPlay.

      • This is exactly my situation!

  • +1

You can also renew this online without having to grab the instore pack again, has been great for my Grandma who was paying $60 a month for a Telstra land line!

  • I’m currently on Aldi and mostly happy apart from the ridiculous recharging which doesn’t work on their network and has to be done over a WiFi network instead if data has run out. Looking at Boost Mobile, both use Telstra network would their be any difference in speed and reliability?

  • yeah rright

  • It should be the cheapest 365 plan at the moment.Last yeah Catch Connect(Optus network) has the $99 one-year-plan. But now it is $152, same to the Kogan mobile one(Vodafone network).

  • +1

Alternative for very low data users is Dodo $5/month plan. Suitable mobile plan for grandparents using simple phones.

  • Is this in store only? If not how do you order it?

    • +3

It was offered in store only from the 11th December.
      You can't order it.
They were on display in the glass cabinets of our local stores in December.
Haven't seen them on display since December.
The deal poster obtained two packs from Aldi Broadway by asking staff as they had some stored in the office.
You could ask at your local Aldi stores to see if they have any in the office or storeroom.
You could try ringing 13 ALDI during the hours that number is monitored to see if they can advise of any stores in your area with stock.
If you have friends that could buy them for you from stores in other areas, ask about stock in those areas as well.
You just need the voucher code in the pack and an AldiMobile sim.
You can recharge any AldiMobile sim with that voucher code if you want to avoid the cost and delay of getting someone to post the pack to you.
AldiMobile starter pack sims are only $5 and they usually have hundreds in store.

    • Pick up the sim at Aldi store.

    • Then the title needs to be updated I guess since I have no Aldi stores anywhere nearby

  • Please contact Aldi customer service to find out stock availability

    • Their stock records are poo.

Isn't boost $135 deal better? Comes with international mins and 80 gigs data

    • As per another comment why would you pay more for something you won't use? If the boost deal was the same price or cheaper then that's another story.

      • Cos boost is full Telstra service unlike aldi. Probably worth extra 30 bucks

        • +1

If you live in a metro area, I doubt it makes any noticeable difference worth $35. If in a rural/regional area then sure, it's a good idea to consider Boost/Telstra and check their coverage (Difference of 0.6% of the population).

    • +1

Depends on what is better for you.
      AldiMobile is only $99/year.
Data rolls over and you can add data in various amounts including 70GB for $60.
Added data also rolls over so you could add data at 70GB for $60 once every two years if you only need 50GB/year.
The AldiMobile website has excellent usage records and can be accessed via the Internet using a username and password.

Boost is on Telstra retail, has access to VoLTE and VoWifi with the right handset.
Boost has very limited account access only via mobile data or sim and uses the sim for authentication instead of username and password.
Usage data is limited to the last 15 records and displaying the balance of your data, inclusions and expiry date.
Boost data doesn't roll over so if you have 40GB left when recharging that 40GB is gone.

We have a mix of Boost 80GB/365 day sims and AldiMobile $99 superpack sims to suit individual family members needs.
If we had all AldiMobile or all Boost we would be worse off so we cherrypick to suit needs.

  • Still on my 3mths Catch deal, when is the latest to activate the sim to qualify?

  • The latest to activate the sim is usually about a year from when the deal starts so probably about the end of this year. It's written on the outside of the box the superpack comes in.

If you manage to locate a store with stock you can check on the box.

  • Any one know if you can port mobile number with this offer ? Ie retain same number

    • +1

Can bring your existing number.. I did it :)

  • Does anyone know when you need to activate the sim card by?

    • +1

      On the box it says

      Activate by 31 Dec 2020

So use by date ends end of this year
      Goes mouldy after that

  • I had this before but have since moved to Boost. Much better value for just $30-$35 more for the year. I had to add on $30 worth of data the year I had the Aldi deal but that was still a total of only 35gb of data for the year. With Boost i get 80gb for $135 on same network so it is much better.

That said if you don't need the data this is the best deal going around.

  • Perfect, same use case as OP! Thanks

  • DODO have a $5 per month with no data. I have used this for a phone that is used for an emergency phone in a lift. Offers unlimited calls.

  • Thanks OP

  • 15 g for whole year ? Lol

  • ALDImobile service will be going down next week for some hours. They're upgrading their infrastructure.

  • Thanks for the post and the one who mentioned it’s available at Broadway, just bought the last one available, which was kept on display, can confirm that it’s no longer available at Broadway :( if anyone was interested.

    • +2

      Lucky you :)
I feel I have done the world justice

My first post and I got Aldi Broadway OzBargained!

      My next mission…

      Eneloops.

  • I got my mother in law onto Dodo: $5 per month for unlimited calls and texts (SMS, not MMS), but zero data. Suits her needs.

    • If you don’t need data that the best deal

  • Which Aldi stores have this in stock?

    • None near you because we don't know where you live …

Edit: Unless we stalk your posting history, fellow Sydneysider

      • I live in the South West, but flexible to travel anywhere in the metro area including Wollongong city
