  • A good selection of connecting flights at great price. Thinking of popping back to Okinawa - Naha is usually an expensive extra flight.

    • +2

assuming you are not Japanese, you can take a flight almost anywhere in Japan on either JAL or ANA for 10,000 yen

      https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2364.html

I have done this a number of times, including to Naha

      • Yes, have added cheap flights on to Sapporo & Naha with JAL before. Also used my JAL frequent flyer points for flights.

Those prepurchased flight vouchers start from 10000¥ ($135). Jetstar is otherwise the cheapest fare bought within Japan @$178 for flight Tokyo to Naha.

A good idea for others to know about, if they don't take up this quick Deal.

However these flights @$70 are much better value in this Deal.

      • Thanks so much, I never knew about this.

I was planning on a North Japan trip with the region limited (and cheaper) JR Pass and now I have a way of making it back to Tokyo that isn't the dreaded bus :)

        • Much better than the night bus!

Most people only think of the 7 or more day JR pass. Regional passes are better value if not wanting to see all the sites of Japan in 1 go.
Some private rail companies have very good value passes in some areas. (Kintetsu offers 5 day passes around Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya region for 3700¥. A favourite of mine when visiting Ise-jingu.)

Limiting travel to a region is less stressful & you can get to know the area better. It's my preferred travel method on many explorations of Japan.

This has been discussed before. It has been available for many years, and the local price doesn't seem to have changed in that time.

          Enjoy your travels!

  • So misleading lmao. Flight in late December jumps to $1,800 one way.

  • Why misleading? They state end of travel period 29 Nov.

Late December is peak period and usually expensive

    • No, nurries is in Perth - travel period listed is to 31/12.

      • Oops my bad.
        Thanks for clarifying

          Don't worry - I thought the same, so checked😉

          • @Rather be Travelling: Thanks for checking before blindly downvoting like most other users would do :)

            • @[Deactivated]: Um… I blindly downvoted as I only considered Sydney departures, then checked & found that you were right for Perth, so removed my incorrect downvote.

@Rather be Travelling: My comment wasn't targeted at you but instead at the general OzB population. I wasn't even aware you negged me and then revoked. :)

Great price, but feeing a bit worried about the virus

    • More people (up to 646,000) die of the seasonal flu each year! Few are concerned. They should be!

By population, Australia has almost the same proportion of confirmed cases 17/25M as Japan 97/130M (outside of the cruise ships). 634 cases in Japan are from the cruise ship. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

Many beautiful remote & rural areas of Japan I've visited have very few people & almost no tourists - pretty hard to catch much there (except fish)!

      • -2

I personally wouldn't risk myself getting into this chaos.
We have 0 confirmed case in our communities. All those confirmed are from outside of Australia and that was like 3weeks ago. Australia is second to none for quarantine so we are all welcomed to any other countries. The virus has started spreading to the communities in Japan and their government seems no clue and/or minimum interest so far.

        • Believe what you wish. It's your decision.

By the time of many of these flights, any of this perceived danger will most likely be forgotten.

People used to post groundless scares about radiation in Tokyo too, in Deals for flights.
(I stayed in Tokyo with an European radiation study group shortly after the Fukushima reactor meltdown in 2011.)

I was in South Korea & Japan during the H1N1 outbreak in 2009. They did take it very seriously.

          Your proof for:
their government seems no clue and/or minimum interest so far.?

I've written elsewhere that creating Fortress Australia seems an overreaction for political benefit here after a bad Summer for the Government. That decision goes against medical & other advice from the WHO.

It increases fear, rather than having a public heath campaign to deal with facts, outline precautions, decrease fears, & quell rumours.

By following normal hygiene behaviour for any virus like this, risk is extremely low for healthy people.

More die from seasonal flu - we are usually unaware of the risk to vulnerable people.

  • In the current circumstances (including the weak Australian dollar), the sale would need to start with a $5 to be taken seriously.

    • Exchange rates certainly are something to take into account.
But $100 less in airfare won't help much.

Years ago I would regularly visit with rates around 100¥ to the au$.
So the current rate around 74¥ to au$… Is a bit expensive if you're spending a lot there. I've visited with worse rates, just kept my costs down.

But who knows when rates will improve??

Airfares are historically cheap & available now… because of those other current circumstances.

Even cheaper in this Deal if wanting to visit great locations like Okinawa or Hokkaido for $70 more each way!

  • @the INFIDEL: To clarify, my point was about the attractiveness of this sale (and the VA deal yesterday), regardless of the overall cost of a trip.

Airfares are historically cheap & available now… because of those other current circumstances.

There has been a constant stream of $6XX Japan sale fares on OzBargain long before coronavirus. Enough deals to set baseline expectations about pricing, much like supermarket products that are regularly discounted. Indeed, enough deals to get a little boring.

To restate my point, in the current circumstances (including the weak Australian dollar), the sale would need to start with a $5 to be taken seriously.

This is self-evident from the fact that this deal has merely 11 +votes and the VA deal has only 6. Most Japan deals prior to coronavirus had far more votes.

$6XX will not drum up any meaningful business in the current circumstances, but $5XX might. $4XX would probably work!

    • Might be Japan Deal fatigue!

Somehow I don't think Ozbargainers are their target market.

The general population will see these as attractive prices. They will just have to weigh up the down side of buying now & flying later in the year. Markets don't like uncertainty.

So if there is spare capacity, expect more offers to fill seats. Or like Qantas - cancel services! Likely they may add sweeters like in this Deal, rather than dropping price further.

With the Tokyo Olympics, record number of Foreign tourists were expected (40M). So more carriers & services were added. It became very competitive.
And with uncertainty, there is now surplus capacity.

Virgin has only recently introduced their Japan service, Qantas matched their price. Both those Deals are direct out of Brisbane, meaning a stop over to change planes - not so attractive to many!

There have been so many Japan deals recently, so some people have already jumped on those Deals, meaning new Deals won't be of interest to them.

There have been a surplus of cheaper Deals available.
With more around same price, there will be likely less upvotes per Deal - spread across Deals. As you say, this has lowered the expected price.

Expect little interest in discount Jetstar Japan Deals for a while. Those used to get a large number of upvotes. Those upvotes now are spread across cheap offerings of premium carriers. I've flown many times with them since 2007 to Japan - purely based on price ($330-420). I wouldn't bother with Jetstar with these good prices.

I have decided to keep clear of Japan (at least city areas) this busy year. Only because I enjoy Japan a little quieter, with the locals.

This Deal offers attractive extras of very cheap connecting flights within Japan. That can save around $130 for those interested!
Unfortunately that is not in Title. It is the major difference to other Japan Deals.
Hence my upvote as I am thinking of returning for a relaxing time in the quiet Okinawan islands🌴

the sale would need to start with a $5 to be taken seriously

But these fares on this airline are already available cheaper: All Nippon Airways: Tokyo, Japan $565 Direct Return (2 wks ago, 136+) (still available)

Little wonder this is not a popular Deal!
This is a different offer over a longer period of flight dates. And has discounted connecting flights within Japan

Also, Virgin & ANA are partners in Japan flights.

      • Proving my point.

This is a different offer with different dates.

Little wonder this is not a popular Deal!

        Erm yeah.

        • But if you want the connecting flights offered in this Deal (like I do) - this is the better cheaper Deal, available on other flight dates into late in the year.

Most don't consider that, just comparing flight cost. Adding that later is a dearer option.

I upvoted both Deals shortly after posting.

          • +1

@Rather be Travelling: Apologies, didn't want to interrupt the edits, just wanted to chuck in a 😄 for the effort.

I upvoted both Deals shortly after posting.

            Good to know :)

  • "…flights arrive in Haneda Tokyo."

Perth to Tokyo flights land at Narita unfortunately, not Haneda.
