Update: Was asked to remove, store chaos, sold out yesterday

Was just shopping for my wife a new phone and dropped into the good guys Chadstone to have a look at some Xiaomi. The sales guy said as S20 is coming out they are offering the S10 range for zero dollars as long as you sign up to Telstra $65, 60gB plan for 12 months, I thought it sounded a bit dodgy but turned out to be legit. This is how it works, Telstra are offering a $400 gift card to port in from another carrier, the good guys are reducing the outright phones to $400 and then using the gift card (if you want) to have a zero cost phone. My wife got the S10+, happened to be when they pulled it out to be the 512mb version instead of the 128mb

So effectively you are getting the S10 / + for $720 $780 over 12 months, 60gb plan.

They had perhaps 10-15 of S10 available, I believe only a couple of S10+

As the majority of commenters have reported being unable to successfully obtain the deal, it has been moved to the forums to preserve discussion.

    This is a mighty good deal, and thank you for sharing.

    Even at $720 over the duration of the plan, Telstra/GG know that the lifetime value of a customer is greater, so they're still making money (even if you don't think they are).

        Yeah, I foresee the dramas tomorrow! People running into stores in the morning and if it all this happens to be a store specific limited time deal, you would expect to see lot of abuses and downvotes diverted back to the OP, which is pointless!

        It would be more sensible for the moderators to add tags like "Try your luck"

        And yeah, OP and I are related by the spirit of OZB and thats enough to share a beer!

People won't be able to sleep tonight, possibly camping outside the store in the hope this one sales person (initials KA) who put the sale through in a questionable manner before close today to meet their KPIs/commission targets will be rostered on tomorrow

                          It's illegal for retailers to advertise unobtainable deals for good reasons, I don't see this currently as anything but pure luck at best, and more likely, more to the story.

                            @scuderiarmani: Lately, mods seem to be more lenient on these deals, especially if they received overwhelming + votes. All it takes is just 1 (or maybe) 2 other people to obtain this deal tomorrow and that will be enough for this deal to stay.

                            It is doubtful most people will be able to obtain this deal tomorrow (but I certainly hope I am wrong and most people interested in this will be able to get it). Anyway, maybe try to think of the other positive: this is now a new benchmark for S10/S10+ deals.

                                @scuderiarmani: Doesn't matter how hard you try to warn people, I reckon some people will just go. By the time they've done their research, the deal (assuming it is legit for now) would be OZB'ed.

                                I thought the minimum spent is $780 over 12 months.

                                Anyway, we are not responsible for their actions.

    Make sure everyone rushes to the correct Chadstone store tomorrow for those 10-15 S10s and handful of S10+s.

    It is not the one in Chadstone Shopping Centre but rather the one on Warrigal Road Homemaker Emporium (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/520327#comment-8372597)

    Feel there will be a lot of disappointed people commenting tomorrow AM as WA peeps confirmed they aren't getting the same deal honoured to them

      No, Telstra can check their system and just reject you. I tried this in December after porting one week before trying to sign up for the $500 JB gift card deal.

      It is going to be quite messy. You cannot port a number twice within 24 hours. It messes things up and resulted in extra delays - basically the second port (the port back) will fail if performed within 24 hours. Reason is that the porting teams do not know what you want to do and will actually interpret the second port as an error.

        Out to optus then into telstra at JB. Some staff will check and decline just try another JB.

        Im on the 50GB telstra JB plan for $25. Haha not gonna risk my plan for this deal.

    Pure fantasy that the company will honour a discount on a phone that currently worth $1,299 at JB Hi-fi. This is clearly employee negligence. No remotely competent employee would grab the wrong SKU for storage and just 'not care'. Dude is getting sacked tomorrow, the phone will be written off against the store and you'll be misleading others by wasting their time.

    Not to mention the poor staff that will need to deal with entitled (mod: removed personal attack) calling in for a free phone and getting mad when it doesn't happen. This should be taken down and written off as luck/negligence.

      It's not that hard to believe. Telstra have been throwing goodies at customers lately. Bonus Telstra Plus points for Direct Debit sign up (so free Galaxy Buds just for signing up to direct debit). Bonus points for signing up BYO plan also.

      Now Telstra slashing the price of this phone basically to cost price (I reckon). Then, Good Guys mix in the Telstra port in bonus. True, the 512GB instead of 128GB model was really lucky for OP.

      Honestly, if you really think about it, quite a lot of Telstra related deals recently and when loopholes are found, OZBers tend to show no mercy and do exploit them.

        I don't think the cost of the phone would be 1/3 rrp. I'd very much doubt those margins. Computer/gaming tech hasn't got those margins, especially relatively new stuff. I wouldn't think phones are an exception.

          The Good Guys store exploited the Telstra porting bonus loop hole and that's the thing with Telstra loop holes, it can be hard to believe Telstra allow them. I know a mate on Telstra prepaid plus years ago and used all his credits on Google Play purchases.

          Last year, when S10/S10+ was first announced, a small group of Telstra staff (I think store staff) got a pretty awesome EPP deal (50% off RRP or 40% off and that was the dual SIM model).

          You applied yet another loophole, early cancellation. Essentially zapping $800 on top of Telstra lowering the phone price to close to cost price, if not the cost price. You know Telstra. They are slow to correct things. Telstra do rip people off in other areas (i.e. NBN and people unlucky enough to still use landline services).

          Boost to Telstra porting requires a special blank SIM, there is no way TGG staff have one of those. My mate told me some Lebara SIMs are $5 on special at Coles (I think). He sent me a photo of the price tag… looks like a Coles price tag.

          I know porting a number twice within a day won't work. But, would activate then port away work (given that technically is a single port). Not to mention if NSW stores refuse to match OR the deal got OZB'ed at the store you picked, you would have wasted money on buying a SIM.

          The pre-paid SIM trick may not work.

            @netsurfer: Porting twice a day does work. You just need to make sure the port is completed prior to doing the 2nd one.

            They dont port numbers manually, its a system.

            I did telstra to optus then optus to telstra jb in 2hrs. Over lunch time lol

    This isn't like the Bunnings DJI deal, where 80 people got a DJI drone and the rest got a gift voucher. People are going to get nothing for their trouble from this. It doesn't really belong on the front page IMHO.

              @Gehirn: Allegedly, according to one of the comments, another person indicated he/she was offered the same deal but elected to get an iPhone deal with porting bonus instead. However, some people are cynical about that comment because the person has only ever commented twice (and that comment being his/her second comment).

              Interestingly, no mod, nor any power user has + voted this. So, my take is, Mods have not endorsed this deal (yet), but they are not removing it (yet) because no one can rule out some people (even if only a small number) might be able to get the same deal tomorrow.

              Only a few more hours to go, people will report their experience soon enough (pretty sure some people will try).

    For those of you who are planning to waste invest their Sunday morning on this, do note that porting doesn't happen on Sundays so TGG may not hand over the phone to you till porting completes. You may have to pay visit to TGG one more time on Monday (if you are lucky) once porting completes to get the phone.
