Great price! Except you may need to factor in some extra costs - United breaks guitars.

it's a chance to be a instant millionaire. just refuse to change seats, United will drag you out of your seat, give you a bloodied nose, and you can sue them for compensation.

i would go through a few punches to get a few millions =)

    • I often see deals posted for IWTF here on ozBargain. Though, not sure about the reputation of ticket sellers on this site ?

For example, I tired to find the reviews of top 3 cheapest ticket sellers and they are all terrible.

      Skidoo
      eDreams
      Opodo

Has anyone booked via these never heard sites Skidoo, eDream Opodo before ? How was your experience ?

      • I recently booked through Skidoo. No complaints. Everything went according to plan, including the actual checking in and flying part. I also booked through Fly365 as well. After booking flights through both agents I made sure to link the flights to both my Virgin Velocity and Hawiian Airlines accounts, don't know if that would have made a difference.

Hopefully they've overbooked the flight and drag me off. Keen for a nice payout so I can retire.

UA sux big time. After two stressful trips, i've learned my lesson.

    • what happened?

      • +23

        Two stressful trips.

    • +2

Lost baggage, flight cancellations, rude staff…you name it

  • +7

That is Cheap!, shame about our lowly exchange rate.

    • +2

Yeah, it's so cheap to get to the USA and so damn expensive once you get there.
Hopefully our currency will pick up soon, but I'm not holding my breath.

      • So damn expensive? Do you really find it more expensive than Australia? I've always found the exact opposite (though agreed, it's getting worse).

        • For me it's the hotels that I'm finding very steep. This might also be the cities I'm visiting (Miami, Los Angeles and Las Vegas) but every time I'm over there I feel like I'm paying through the nose to get a decent hotel.

          • @SeaWolf au: What dates are you looking at for Miami? March is officially the worst time with Miami Music Week/Ultra Music Festival and Miami Beach Pride back to back.

            • @[Deactivated]: I'm looking at the start of June, which is going into peak summer break period when the weather starts to get nice. I'm hoping the current panic might push prices down a bit.

I seriously think they should change their abbreviation. Every time I see IWTF, I read “I Want To (profanity)”.

    • +11

Really? I always read Interferon Wave Therapy Foundation. Each to their own I guess

    • +4

I subliminally read it as "WTF" or What the (profanity)

      • Are you typing the word profanity ?

    • +1

      Nothing wrong with farting.

    • +2

what about 'Man I Love Flying!'

  • +4

Currently in SF. Spent last 2 weeks in LV and LA.

Nice places but with our dollar at about 63c everything is super expensive.

    • -8

only just dropped to 66c, hasn't been 63 in a decade or more

      • -2

        xe.com shows as

        1 AUD 0.66246

At time of writing, but factor in +/-1-2cents when paying with a low rate CC like 28degrees or Citibank.

        • 28degrees and citi would be pretty much at the spot rate. it could be +/- 0.02 cents

          • @pHyR3: I've seen it fluctuate little more than that when looking at my statement at the time, not much mind you but certainly some difference.

    • Interestingly when in Hawaii last month at 69c (lol) stuff wasn't too expensive (compared to Sydney).
I suppose it depends what you are buying. For me take-away booze was cheap as chips, even drinks at bars were cheaper than Sydney.
Food can be found cheaply on coupons and happy hours and if you don't get waited on. Outlet stores still good deals; but not great deals.
Accommodation marginally more expensive than Sydney.
      Transport cheap.

      • +1

Agreed. I was in the US last month too, prices in general weren't more expensive than Sydney but the outlets made the trip worth it. One could justify one of these cheap flight deals just to go shopping for outlet bargins.

I've got a spare Qantas amex credit expiring soon. Hopefully Qantas cuts their price to something similar soon.

    • FYI, Qantas has now dropped prices on similar flights. I can see $747 MEL- LAX return.

      • Ty for the update!

  • +1

Might be this cheap as the Aussie dollar hasn't been this low since 2008

I am a doctor, I better not fly with them

    • +1

Tell them "Don't mess with me, I know Karate, Judo, Jujitsu, Kung Fu and 20 other dangerous words."

      • -1

Help me Jesus! Help me Jewish God! Help me Allah!

  • +2

Board as doctor, leave as patient

Excellent economy deal; guess there must be a drop of travel in light of all the FEAR that is going around in the world.

FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real.

  • do you need to provide biometrics if you're just transiting through the US? And are they taken at departure or arrival?

iirc you need an e-passport just to land there, and not the old passport sans RFID chip.

    • aren't all Australian passports e-passports now? I thought that change came in 10+ years ago

      • +1

Maybe. my dad's which expired late 2018 did not.

At the time that the US instated the rule, not all passports were e-passports.

Not sure why I got negged for asking a question.

      • the airport still has a separate line for e-passports at immigration, which shouldn't need to exist if everyone's passports are e-passports.

        • You do realise people from countries other than Australia occasionally visit the US?

Mods please delete if too long. Too funny not to post.

A man is alone in an airport lounge.
A beautiful young woman walks in and sits down at the table next to him. He decides that because she's wearing a uniform, she's probably an off-duty Flight Attendant. So he decides to have a go at picking her up by identifying the airline she flies for, thereby impressing her greatly. He leans across to her and says the British Airways motto, “To fly, to serve”? The young woman looks at him blankly. He sits back and thinks up another line. He leans forward again and delivers the Air France motto. “Winning the hearts of the world”? Again she just stares at him with a slightly puzzled look on her face. Undeterred he tries again this time saying the Malaysian Airlines motto. “Going beyond expectations”? The woman looks at him sternly and says, “What the f@@k do you want”? “Aha”, he says,… "United Airlines".

    • lmaooo

      • i slightly giggled, a little girl giggle to be precise.

        • I can definately relate - not to picking up a hostile - but flying UA. Seriously bad service. Business class was run like a prison. Flight attendants were old, crabby and were only there counting down the days before retirement. I never knew how many different ways there was to tell someone to F-off with out actually saying F-off…. With a condescending smile of course.

  • Does anyone know if the dates are flexible if you need to change?

Hoping to buy them now but might need to change depending if I can get leaveapproved at work.

    • You are not booking with United Airlines direct but rather one of a number of on line travel providers that advertise on IWTF.
Most have pretty shitty conditions and fees for cancellation and changes over and above what the airline would normally charge so be careful. This would not be very flexible at all.

  • And here I am thinking I'm so good with my $821 fares with Virgin in September!!! Goshdarnit!
