  • What does it actually do?

    • Cleans fuel tank, lines, injectors, rails and inlet valves.

If it actually does it, that's another story.

      • That's what I ment lol :)

        • I've never used it before. If it does, I'd service the fuel filter soon after.

Penrite is actually quite a good brand, so it will definitely do some cleaning. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SoZnymBSC8

My mechanic told me that Valvoline is "garbage", as a fuel injector cleaner at least. There are other additives that make the dirt in the fuel rise too the top of the fuel(not sure what they're called) and thus you should NEVER completely let your car dun out of fuel completely cause that gunk will go into your engine. These are more useful in the older vehicles, but no harm in putting them in new cars.
Also was told that using U98 fuel does clean out the system. Did this process on an old camry and it definitely helped. Dont need to use U98 more than 3 times for a good clean.

    • Same thing as adding any solvent hydrocarbon to your tank; break down deposits.

Though, i find it much better value to top off a half tank with e10 fuel (making it e5).

5% is a very safe level for any car (without cork gaskets).

      • I use e10 only. Does this mean I have no need?

        • Yup.
E10 is already 10% Ethanol, which is a very effective cleaning hydrocarbon.

If you're an E10 fan (I am also; I do a lot of Dyno tuning, and I like the extra liquid cooling), then make sure you pick the servos well.

Avoid BP, and some Caltex, as a lot of them are 89RON base fuel, with 10% ethanol added, resulting in a 91RON fuel (however the MON rating is not increased at all….)

However, Mobil, some caltex, Shell and Freedom all start with a 91RON base fuel, and add 10% ethanol; resulting in a 94RON fuel.

          If all of thats too nerdy for you;

Simple version: Only use E10 that's labeled as 94 or 95 RON, never 91 or 'unlabeled'.

If it's not available, use regular 95RON. 91 is fine, but it's a high sulfur fuel in Australia.

  • OUTBACK HARDENED

    Lol, just lol.

    • Yep, should just say "double concentration'.

There are detergents in premium fuels, if you always buy top shelf 98 it’s probly a waste of money. For everyone else Penrite’s a good brand so it may well help.

    • well said.

    • Some of those detergents though, do get out of balance in the storage tanks.

If i had $1 for every carb ive seen full of mysterious yellow goop who "only runs vpower" i'd have… i dunno…$5? But more than should be happening.

Most reliable fuel seems to be mobil these days.

  • There needs to be a wiki on OzB on these fuel cleaners.

Then on top of that, what the heck is an 'outback' injector cleaner meant to do that a normal one doesn't?

    • +1

It’s just an injector cleaner marketed to 4wd owners. I’m willing to bet it’s identical to the regular cleaner

      • I emailed Penrite on this and they came back saying there's no problem using this on regular cars.

At absolute worst, it's identical, but treats 100L of petrol so you can quote possibly get 2 uses out of it.

This is a massively underrated deal IMO given you'll never see the Liqui-Moly/Nulon Pro Fuel System Cleaners for under $20 even when on special

  • Detergent additives are added to all Fuel types if you get petrol from 7-Eleven or Costco.
Even E10 has it. So I'm not really sure what the point of these fuel system cleaners is?
