  • I assume that's just a single unit not a 3 pack?

Also, lol @ the 9kg weight advertised on Amazon.

    • +1

It’s one Router and one Satellite, I have this. Satellite has Alexa as well as doubling as a great little speaker for whichever room you place it in. Don’t expect top notch audio, but certainly adequate for my ears.

      • I've got a nest mini and use google home, so I guess I shouldn't get this?

        • Get the cheaper non-speaker one

        • Get a different Netgear Orbi or Google Nest Wifi.

  • weird that there is only a pic of the Speaker add-on only (RBS40V)… Code and description says its the system. Wondering if there might be an error and this should be the price if the speaker alone.

    • I thought the same prior to purchase so did a chat with Amazon customer service who confirmed it was the two piece system. I bought when it was @ $415, Amazon have since refunded me the difference after the price kept dropping.

Note in description it says ‘ Orbi WiFi System includes an Orbi WiFi Router and Voice Satellite’

      • Is it a usual thing Amazon refunding on price drop?

        • Not sure on the policy, but I just though I’d try, as I had waited months for this to come in to my budget and then it kept dropping. It’s good to use 3 camels to see price fluctuation. Once I saw it drop, I contacted amazon and they refunded, then I did it again a few days later. I guess they will do it for bigger ticket items so that you don’t return and reorder at the lower price. Would cost them twice in postage.

          • @harryv: Ohhh lucky - I tried that with the echo shows when they kept dropping in price. They said I could purchase a new one and package up and return the old.

        • If you speak nicely….. Can be a credit too.

    • weird that there is only a pic of the Speaker add-on only (RBS40V)

The add-on has a picture of both so someone mixed up the product images.

  • Only AC Wifi?

    • Netgear Orbi RBK50V is wireless AC.

Netgear Orbi RBK852 is wireless AX. It's not available in Oz yet.

  • Would this be a good solution for a double brick house? The modem/router is around 4 metres from the room and walls in between.

    • I don’t have brick so can’t recommend. You can easily try and send back within 30 days I believe. My experience in a two storey wooden house has been fantastic, even get coverage in the front and back yard

      • Fair enough.

I also read somewhere that Alexa listens even when turned off. is there any way to completely disable it?

      • @harryv

        • Amazon have their own policy, regardless of what NetGear say

          • @harryv: nice find, but this concerns me:
You may return most new, unopened items fulfilled by Amazon AU within 30 days of receipt of delivery for a replacement or full refund of the price you paid for the item if you change your mind

            unopened…?

i'm waiting for netgear au to confirm if the 30 day trial has been extended

@harryv: or were you referring to this?

I can vouch for this in a double brick house.
Have a RBK50. Router connected to NBN HFC modem in the rear and Satellite in the front room.

Worst signal strength is -67dBm in the middle of the house.
Reaching peak speeds at all times. No slowdowns experienced even with simultaneous netflix and prime streaming.
So overall very happy with the product and speeds.

      hope that helps.

  • price seems to be falling like the share market - dropped a whole $1 since this morning!

  • anyone have feedback on this being used to replace a telstra smart modem gen2 router (nbn on hfc)?

    • +1

That’s exactly what I got it for. Of course, you will lose the 4G backup if NBN fails. As stated above, this now floods my whole home and the yard, whilst maintaining excellent speed.

      • Does it come with instructions on how to connect up to Telstra NBN HFC or it’s fairly straight forward?

        • If you use the Telstra home phone the setup is..

nbn HFC modem—->Telstra Smart Modem Gen2—->Netgear Orbi Router—->Netgear Orbi Voice Satellite.

Configure the Netgear Orbi as an access point.

If you don't use the Telstra home phone the setup is..

nbn HFC modem—->Netgear Orbi Router—->Netgear Orbi Voice Satellite.

Configure the Netgear Orbi as a router.

          • @Twix: Okay thanks. I'll give it a go when it arrives next week. Don't need the home phone so all good. Do I need to enter any Telstra user details on router or the HFC modem is already configured so just connect up and set up the router?

            • @Myap6: During setup of the Netgear Orbi you get asked if your internet connection requires a login. Select no. Telstra don't use logins on nbn.

You also get asked if your internet IP address is dynamic or static. Select dynamic unless you have specifically asked Telstra for a static IP address. If you have enter the static IP address.

You don't need to do anything with the nbn HFC modem except plug it in. It doesn't have any user configurable options.

              • +1

@Twix: Sounds pretty straight forward. Thanks for the information.

    • curious on this also, I'm currently a Netgear Nighthawk X6 with my Gen2 HFC & have been contemplating going a mesh (this or Google), or should I wait for mesh 6?

      • What is wrong with the Netgear Nighthawk X6?

Do you have any wifi 6 clients?

Wifi 6 mesh costs start at $600. Wifi 6 Netgear Orbi RBK852 costs $999.

  • I'm seriously considering the RBK23-100AUS (1 x router and 2 x Satellites) for $399 (HN) for my situation instead of this one. Large home, two satellites definitely an advantage for me and don't care about voice features.

    • +1

If you get TGG commercial take a look there: $313

  • +1

This doesn't work with Google home/Chromecast? It only talks about alexa

  • I ordered one of these and just received the parcel. Amazon have sent me the standard RBK50, not the speaker version!
Oh well, I’ve emailed Amazon and will wait for their response with how to handle this.
Has anyone been through that process with Amazon before?

    • Oh no! I've only contacted them when a product hasn't arrived and they refunded me. But never have had this problem. I've ordered one as well so will let you know what I receive.

      • This isn’t going well at all!

I’ve just received this email, even though I’ve only asked for the product that I paid for.

I might just keep it. Looks like it’s going to be too much hassle.

  • Ah bugger. Yes that’s what I had to do once but just kept the product. I’ll see what I get on Monday but will be pushing for both products as it clearly states.

    • Amazon have offered to ship the replacement item today as long as I return the wrong item.
They sent me the RBK50 which has the router and one non speaker satellite, not the RBK50V.

  • I finally got mine and had the router and speaker satellite so I must have been lucky!! Set it all up and works a treat using @Twix instructions. The set up app is okay but took a while to get it going. Didn't recognise satellite at first and then router disappeared off the network! Anyway so far its been okay but have noticed it has disconnects from router sometimes so not sure what's that about!
