Acer X34P Predator 34" Ultrawide 100hz $999 + Delivery (Free Pickup in NSW/QLD) @ Umart

170

Not the cheapest deal ($847.20 on 21/11/2019) but cheapest I found at the moment. Estimated delivery on UMart's site is $32 to Melbourne, or free pickup at one of their stores (As of midday, NSW only stock at West Ryde, stock in all QLD stores).

I picked up one of these a few weeks ago and it's a great screen, lots of reviews online criticising the QC of the monitor with backlight bleed and dead pixels but it seems I got a good one.

I think these may be discontinued considering frequent recent price drops. Sale only until the end of the day.

  • Great monitor , i bought mine last weekend.
No issues with quality here , no excessive light bleed and no dead or stuck pixels.
Mine was manufactured October 2019 so maybe quality picked up during it's production run.

    • I've got one I bought in July 2019, and also no problesm at all. Love this monitor

      • had mine for 2/2.5+ years, only had to send one back because of lines across the screen. Great monitor and much cheaper than when I got it

  • same - love mine, got it at Hardly Normal price matched a few weeks ago

As above - great monitor, really good stand that swings in most directions

At this price, pretty decent value

  • Great monitor!

Games are beautiful on the 34" Ultrawide. I came from a 27" 1440/144hz

So I lost 24hz, but gained a lot of extra pixels and screen inches.

    • you overlocked it to 120Hz?

      • Yeh got mine running at 120hz

I don't see how this is worth almost 2x the Kogan one with the same panel and specs.

    • +3

It's not lol, although the panels are different. This is IPS and the kogan ones are VA, although the newer Samsung VA panels are generally considered superior to IPS for ultrawides where IPS glow is a more present issue, even without factoring in the cost difference.

This Kogan is $499 on sale for 100 hz 1440p 21:9 34 inch ultra wide. Here's a review.

And this is $599 on sale for 144hz and 1500R instead of 1800R. And here's a review of the same panel but in a different monitor.

      • I went from an Acer predator to a Samsung CRG9. The VA panel in that monitor is most certainly NOT better than the IPS one in the Acer Predator. It might have better blacks. It might have less bleed - but it sure as hell doesn't look as good as an IPS.

Given that that is the first panel with that resolution from Samsung, this may not apply to their other VA panels, but I am very much of the mindset that if an IPS version of my monitor emerges, I will go back to IPS.

(Not that the CRG9 isn't a great monitor - but it is a step down in colour and whatnot)

And yeah, I have calibration tool.

This does 30hz to 100hz or 120hz OC , my last monitor did 60hz to 144hz , red dead redemption 2 i had to drop quality to keep it above 60 frames or it would stutter.
This monitor i upped the eye candy and sitting around 40 frames it is smooth

      • why not just drop the 1k on a better gpu lol…

        • I have a rtx 2080

          • +2

@Rubber Duck: you know there exists the 2080 ti right?

the real point though is if you're gaming on 40fps with a 3k rig you're doing it wrong

            try this… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3xQ33Cq4CE

            • +1

@abctoz: GPUs will struggle with 1440p ultrawide at such high refresh rates. Wait till the next series, a 2080ti will be a pointless upgrade.

              • @scuderiarmani: high refresh rates? he's talking about 40fps lol

                • +1

@abctoz: Some games are demanding at such resolutions and quality settings? Are you surprised?

                  Not every game performs great.

                • @abctoz: If you read what i said earlier this monitor does 30hz to 120hz which means it will go down to 30 frames without stuttering and very smooth , a lot of the cheaper freesync monitors don't go that low so when you get a demanding game you can still play at ultra settings without dropping the eye candy

                  • @Rubber Duck: i've played crysis locked at 30fps and i wouldn't call the experience smooth, the word i would use is laggy

and again if you're buying a $1000 monitor for this "feature" it's a big waste imo

                    • @abctoz: I am not saying buy this for that feature , and i would personally keep it above 40 .
As for you playing crysis at 30 frames , that is obviously the days when all monitors were basically 60hz so yeh it would be choppy

            • @abctoz: Nah this game with everything on ultra is hard on the system , all my other games i play at ultra play well , battlefield 5 , control with ray tracing on ultra , modern warfare all between 60 and 150 frames

I have the X34P, my brother in law has the Kogan and they're not the same at all.

    IPS vs VA
    HW Gsync module vs Freesync
    120Hz OC vs 100Hz
Better build quality vs the Kogan also (gaps, creaks, etc)

So yeah, definitely not the same panel and I might grab another.

    • Is your bro in law happy with the Kogan?

Obviously this is better - but for someone not concerned with the absolute best (don’t play competitive FPS or anything like that), do you think the Kogan would be good enough?

      • don’t play competitive FPS or anything like that

This is not a very good monitor for competitive FPS. For games with vertical FOV eg. Overwatch it cuts your vision and you don't use the additional horizontal viewport in fast games.

        It's outstanding for driving games.

      • If anything the kogan being VA may have faster response, IPS will look nicer then typical TN panels, I'm sure both are huge upgrades on what you have.

        • +1

Given what I currently have is a 10yo Ultrabook, I think a Fisher Price Viewmaster is probably a huge upgrade too, so you would be very very right! lol :)

          Cheers!

          • +2

@caprimulgus: If you want visuals IPS are preferred. Having said that I quite liked the over saturated look of a VA panel when I had the ASUS equivalent of this UW alongside a 32" ROG VA panel. Each to their own….

      • +2

Absolutely loves it but he came from 2 x 24 inch TN monitors.

Used for business only so no gaming but I set it up for him and for $480 (was a special), it's an absolute great buy.

        • Cheers!

        • The styling though, do you want your business to look like a teenage kids bedroom?

      • +3

I just got myself a Kogan 34" 3440x1440 144hz monitor, and as one who's never experienced ultrawide before honestly it's great. No noticeable issues, freesync works just fine, HDR works fine and I'm extremely happy with this, while it's no X34 Predator it's beautiful for it's price.

        • +1

By definition it's not actually HDR, since without local dimming it's just adjusting the whole screen's brightness when there's something to show. But still a great monitor in all other aspects :)
