Where Can I Buy Toilet Paper?

I’ve run out and have been to 4 different Coles/ Woolies.

Seriously when do they expect to re stock it?

Why are people buying toilet paper enmasse ????

    • +26

I just need 1 pack!! I was waiting for the Woolies sales tomorrow.

      • +2

there's people on gumtree selling for $1000 per pack

        • Come to Canberra plenty here.

        • +3

seriously, we should collectively flood those (profanity) selling toilet paper on gumtree with insults

      • did you try Click n collect?
we're running out as well :(

        • +1

Check the stock online first before going to the store. You can see the stock level at woollies online at least. Or you can try the smaller stores like IGA. They still have few left near my place on Friday

        • +2

Coles Click n Collect is useless, they pick from shelves at the time of your pick up, so they are all gone before you even arrive.. :(

I've heard Woolies online delivery is better, if they have stock, you order it and it should deliver to you but there is a minimum spend and I have not try this myself

If you're in a pinch you can try the flushable wipes that normally sit beside the TP stack. I've never tried them so I don't know how well they break apart after they're flushed.

In HK the TP rolls are back in full supply so I'm not sure what the big fuss is about with TP here. Do people really think they'll sit in their homes for weeks on end without going out for supplies?

Luckily I'm not in a bad situation TP-wise as we always buy the bulk bags of them when they go on sale (e.g. I have 2 bags of 10 rolls x 6 pack) so we have more than enough, but this was a couple of weeks ago, we never even thought it would get as bad as this lol.

        • +32

"Flushable" wipes are not actually flushable, water utilities everywhere have massive problems with these wipes clogging pipes and jamming up equipment at treatment plants.

Its deceptive marketing, you should not flush any sort of wipes.

          • +2

@Dutchy27: Thanks for that, I don't know why they're marketed as such then.

I just returned from IGA Doonside where there were pallets of TP available, Black & Gold had heaps of 48 roll bags and a couple other pallets of different brands, Kleenex and Softly.

            • +1

@snackerjoe: wow yeah bad marketing I was bout to grab some.
Guess next best would just be some cheapass Facial tissues
those "Flushables" were like $7.14 per 100 sheets ON SPECIAL 🤦‍♂️

        • +4

@snackerjoe think you got negged for the flushable wipes comment.

However, your comment on HK being fully back in stock is relevant. My mate who lives there told me that after initial panic for a few weeks, TP back in stock and no danger of running out. There’s only so much toilet paper you can stock up on before people come to their senses

          • +1

@hayne: Thanks, maybe it was a couple of TP hoarders who got butthurtby my comment lol.

The other funny thing about HK was my friend who told me about the full supply said people were trying to refund their TP after demand dropped.

      • +1

If you're in Sydney West try IGA Doonside where they had a few stacks of Black & Gold 48 roll bags of TP this morning. Not sure how long they'll last but you should be able to grab a couple at least if you're quick or nearby.

      • order it online via amazon?

        • Last time i checked, it was already sold out a week ago.

      • "I just need 1 pack" reminded me of this atrocity.

      • +39

Nope. Most are made here in fact they companies who make them (mostly in SA and NSW) have increased production to 24 hours to try and keep up with demand.

        Packaging though… China
Even Tim tams might run short soon due to a lack of packaging!!!

          • @spackbace: Yes that’s Australia. I noticed the other day some pre battered fish I bought was Australian fish but sent to Thailand to be battered and packed. Then back to Australia. WTF?

            • +4

@Jumpup: in the EU you have Spanish potatoes being sent to Poland to wash, then transported to Germany. But part of the washed potatoes goes to Greece, to have some clean dirt put back on tho them, because people prefer "unwashed" potatoes. Of course then shipped again to Germany.

          • +39

@spackbace: No just the packaging is made in China then sent here and packaged here.

          • +1

@spackbace: No, the packaging is manufactured in China, sent here (empty), then they are wrapped in it and heat sealed.

        • -2

Actually, Sorbent have come out and said if things continue the way things are going then it could threaten the nation's supplies.

          • @ozbs25: We deal with these guys (Solaris) daily. Our commercial orders are being held with no ETA.

          • +3

@ozbs25: yeah if people buy three years supply in the current frenzy, then noone will need to buy TP for the next three years, Sorbent local factories will close which will be a threat to long term local supply.

            • @Antikythera: I was quoting what one of the heads of Sorbent said. It was from the Australian. I got banned from reddit for posting the article there :(

        • +4

Not made in China For a simple reason, the size of the product (fairly big) and it's low value ($10) makes it uneconomical to ship long distance vs producing it locally.

Lots of the commercial supplied stuff comes from Indonesia because it's close enough the freight doesn't kill the economics, commercial rolls are generally tightly wound at 700 sheets vs 180 sheets for the stuff in the supermarkets. Same physical size roll, 4 times as compact (tightly wound).

        • +1

Umm, i work at Arnotts, the all the packaging is made locally.

          • +1

@josephnds: head of Arnotts said otherwise when interviewed,,, if it is made locally thats good news
i suspect its made locally from imported materials

        • +11

Care to expand on this comment further? I'd neg it because the information isn't factual and I'm a dumb white Australian.

        • +7

Negged for being inaccurate. Last I checked I am white and born and bred here.

        • -4

My wife asked to neg this comment. She is Chinese.

      • -2

First, baby formula, now toilet paper … bloody Chinese buy eve-ry-thing … OH wait a minute

        • people hate others when they find them smarter

          • +6

@hopper: It was a joke to lighten the fearful-situation that the media got us into. I guess fear has a stronghold in some people ….

        • +1

Better stock up on dog … … food

          • @cameldownunder:

Better stock up on dog … … food

Do you want us to fill … … with (for)?

            • @tooblue: Nope, otherwise I would have written DOG _ _ _ _ _ _ FOOD.

              The "… …" are for the ( double - 2 x "…" ) suspense of a sentence not just yet … … finished.

        • +1

wtf?did you ever seen any Chinese fight for TP ? check the news none of them are chinese subburb, dumb ass.https://www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/revealed-the-sydney-suburbs-stocking-up-on-toilet-paper-20200305-p547b1.html

          • @coolbzk: Everything is good at home? Reread the joke again, turn of your TV and take a walk outside. It is still very nice weather.

      • +1

People like you spreading fake news are half the problem!

        • -1

Read down the conversation… You're 3 days too late, but thanks for chiming in!

    • +12

Cutting them to look like facemasks.

    • +2

Cause there's a lotta tight arses out there need wiping

      • +3

Use newspaper, it's just adding crap to crap.

  • +3

Plenty of kitchen towel still available…

    • +28

Just be careful you don't clog your pipes with it as kitchen towels are much thicker. It would be a drumroll … crappy situation.

toilet tissue is also still in stock on Amazon, will take at least 2 days to deliver with Prime though.

Also, bidets and bum-guns. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/tag/toilet-seat I had one in my old house that didn't require electricity. Useful when you've run out of TP.

      • Do you have the amazon link? It says sold out

        • +11
use a watering can like the rest of ethnic australia

      • omg did you summon me

drumrolls also does anyone know if you could do that on a rental lol (the bidets)

    • +34

As someone who has had experience working on council sewer systems, please don’t put kitchen towels down the toilet. Don’t even flush facial tissues. Neither of these are designed to go down toilets, and are in fact designed to not immediately break down in contact with fluids.

      • +15

Agree Fully. Had first hand experience with Facial Tissue blocking up the toilet bowl and pipes. Unknown to me, kid was using face tissues instead of toilet paper.

When the water started backing up. I couldn't even get it out manually, it had plugged up the PVC pipes. $180 later with a plumber, he managed to dig it out with a snake thingy about 2m all the way inside the pipes.

Never flush face tissues or paper towels. Guaranteed to come back and bite you.

        • +18

You did well it only costing 180 for a plumber

          • +27

@taoz: Yes, should have been posted as a deal..

          • +10

            @taoz: Certainly did.

I had a $9k plumbing bill which escalated from a simple blockage. It was found that something completely blocked everything up under our front yard where things connect to the street's sewerage. They had to dig it all up using machines including cutting up our driveway to get to everything. The people who lived here before me must have gone crazy with flushing the wipes. I saw hundreds of wipes float out white and still fully intact once they dislodged the "wipe-burger" which they had to get at with crowbars or something.

        • Wow, I didn't know that! Tissues seem to disintegrate as readily as toilet paper when handled with wet hands.

        • +1

          snake thingy about 2m
Guaranteed to come back and bite you.

          Ummm ok 😰

      • +1
        • +3

It certainly is and I have seen them first hand…

      • Thank you for sharing.

    • +4

      Kitchen towel isnt flush safe.

There is a test you can do. If you put it inside a small water bottle with half water and shake it and if the contents have started break off / disintegrate; then its flush safe.

  • Go to the big (floor space) Supermarkets first thing tomorrow morning when they open. My Local woolies on the gold coast was sold out of most but had heeps of tomorrows special (24 pack quilton i think)

  • +12

I'm going to be very annoyed if morons have purchased all the tp at my local.

  • +9

Is this for real? Haven't stolen tp since uni days. Don't want to go back to that lifestyle. What about who gives a crap? Don't they deliver? From memory the quality is quite ok too.

    • +29

My work sent out an email around 4pm warning people not to steal toilet paper or coffee etc..

      • +10

        Karen, is that you?

        • +8

Not Karen but a lady called Priyanka stole one and I’m serious!

          • +1

@Jumpup: Hahaha ok I guess I'll be onto Priyanka on OZB from now on.

          • @Jumpup: I wonder how she was caught?

            • +10

@Bargain80: The rolls fell out her bag when she was looking in her bag for her security pass to get out.

              • @Jumpup: getting fired for stealing toilet paper yeah!

              • @Jumpup: Lol the embarrassment, OMG. On top of that having your name known throughout the office afterwards as the TP thief…

      • +2

haha my work has the paper thats sheet by sheet… gonna be a long time in the cubicle stockpiling sheets!

        • +1

Oh those ones are the worst!

          They’re like half ply
