Unfortunately a lot of people will confuse this with the consumer grade Thinkpad Edges. This is an actual Thinkpad. Don't like the cash back crap though, its getting too Americanised.

    • +1

Agree that people may get confused with E versus T series. Well, maybe for those people it does not matter and if they want the cheapest, let them have it.
I actually like the cashback, works quite nicely with taxation :-) And hardly you can justify an ordinary change in price by up to $600 to the retailers. So this way it is more fairer to everyone (except the tax department).
I am amazed how cheap you can get Thinkpad (the real one). I still remeber them for more than $10k many many years ago, when they were the real rolls-royce of the notebooks. They are still good though.

    • +9

      I think you mean Americanized.

      • -4

Why would you think that? Do you use US English? It's "-ised" in Australian English.

        I.e. Realised, dramatised, recognised.

        • +10

It was a joke… because Americans would spell it as 'ized'…

    • +8
      1. These are Edges.
      2. The coupons have expired.
  • -6

Lenova E520 i7 and 1GB graphic card for about $570.

    • +6

      ideapad cant compare with thinkpad

      • +2

in this case, its thinkpad edge can't compare with thinkpad.

Lenovo is seriously diluting the Thinkpad brand by offering these "Edge" under Thinkpad. Don't get me wrong, the Edge's are decent computers, but they are consumer level ones. Hell the Edges actually comes with WIN7 Home Premium rather than Pro.

    • +1

You were comparing orange with apple. Thinkpad blows Edge out of the water.

  • I totally agree with you. This one is awesome, on par with the previous deal.

  • +2

Suddenly, missing the BULK5 Thinkpad deal earlier today doesn't hurt so much :) T series much better IMHO.

On another note, I can't wait for the annual OzBargain DOTY Awards Gala Night! **

    Date: 6pm Friday 16 December
    Venue: local IKEA store: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/52269
Dress code: The Hut Hoodie / Free Globe Tshirt
Attendee bonus: free furniture for the amount you eat

**Not an actual awards night - at least not yet anyway :)

    • +4

You forgot to add the $10 Dunlop Volleys.

  • +3

$600 cash back? That is ridiculous.

    • +1

      I think it's ambitious.

If it were Acer handing out the cashback though…

  • +2

Awesome deal, only thing missing is a HDMI port, but I guess we can't have everything :)

    • +1

Also no USB3. But This price for Thinkpad T series, People will stop complaining about US prices.

  • Can I refund the last T520 and swap to this T420???

    • i want the swap too

      • Really? how to swap that?

  • I am looking to get this, but this have me worry, can anyone elaborate?
"Enter details of the eligible Lenovo products you have purchased to receive up to an incredible $250 per PC+ on a Lenovo Cash Card"

Why is this the only one on the list getting $600 cash back? Is there something wrong with this model??

    • The cashback is roughly proportional to the RRP. There are numerous models that have $600 rebate. Check the Lenovo link.

  • Very nice deal indeed, and no, it's far better than the ThinkPad Edge. Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to customise it to 1600x900 LCD. Maybe one can be sourced from eBay.

    • +1

Any comparison b/w ThinkPad vs. ThinkPad Edge
Thinking about getting one… for tax depreciation with cash back

    • +1

      ThinkPad T420 is better because,

      • Business grade laptop.
      • Magnesium-alloy chassis roll-cage.
      • DisplayPort.
      • Original ThinkPad keyboard (oversize Esc key, not chiclet keyboard, purple Enter key :)
      • Support for docking station

I guess it's also the old IBM DNA in thee, whereas Edge is fully breed by Lenovo. ThinkPad Edge is still a pretty nice laptop though.

      • +1

Not to mention the properly formatted 5-key Del/Home/End/PgUp/PgDn rectangle (actually, I prefer the old 6 key layout, despite the redundancy of Ins). :-)

        • i use ins key lots… :/ why do they kill it off?

        • No killed off. Just make it smaller, i.e. Delete key is about twice the size of Insert, Home, End, PgUp and PgDn. Makes sense though as I use Delete key a lot more often :)

  • +1

Sigh, I ordered the thinkpad edge too. I wonder if I should cancel and order this instead?

    • +1

I missed out the previous T520 deal, so I ordered the Edge last night just in 5 min. I checked the centrecom before sumitted the order, but today….

      • Are you planning on canceling the order?

        • I don't know, maybe ring lenovo tomorrow to ask whether they will charge me the canceling fee or not.

        • You better make up your mind soon, because once they have built your laptop and it's in the hands of the courier it will be too late to cancel

        • I contacted them this morning. The estimated ship date isn't for another week but they said the orders already at the factory. They said they'd contact China in two hours, once their business starts to check if I could cancel.

  • This is an absolutely excellent deal… Now if only I didn't pay more than $1400 in December on a T410 CTO (thinking that I got a good price too!)

  • The only thing that is stopping me buying this laptop is the 16:9 ratio screen…I would not hesitate if this was 16:10 like the previous T series.

    • +1

Totally agree . I'd buy a non wide screen in a second but they have gone the way of the dodo and 16:10 even looks to be dead .
We have a T30 , T400 and a T500 here . Highly recommended , they are usually way overpriced but when discounted heavily are a no brainer IMHO . The Thinkpad quality is far above the vast majority of other laptops .

  • The cashback is perfect for tax deduction.. i.e claim depreciation on A$1299 over 3 years
and get the cashback… Sell the laptop on ebay.. perfect combination

  • Do I get my the "real" cashback e.g cheque?

    • Nope. A prepaid visa card instead.

      • +3

But you can hopefully add the balance to a paypal account then withdraw to a bank account. I just checked and there seem to be no fees.

  • Can someone confirm if this laptop has got international warranty?

  • Can anyone confirm hard drive speed and battery size?

  • Great deal, wish I hadn't bought the Edge already…

  • +4

Time to sell my T520 LOL

  • +1

Good deal. I can buy it and use the cashback money to buy another E520. Owesome!

  • That review says HDMI?
    Can anyone confirm??

    • +1

Yes, this laptop do come with Display Port.

  • T series always come with DisplayPort, not HDMI, but you can covert DP to HDMI

    • I'm a noob on this, but what's the real difference between DP and HDMI? Do I need to buy a specific cable for DP if my monitor supports it?

      • yes you can buy a DP to HDMI cable or convertor for your monitor, around $15

  • I dont get it…on the cash back website: http://moneytree.lenovoincentives.com/

It has a huge list of laptops (T and E series) and they all have some cash back, does that mean we can buy any of these models and get cash back? doesnt matter which retailer we buy from? as long as the model is eligible?

    • yes. you can check other retailers for those laptop nos. Customised orders are not taken

    • Any legit Lenovo retailer, yes.

  • +2

So comes to a grand total of $49 if you can make use of the ETR, wow
Almost regret gettin the 520, but shouldnt complain about a free computer

    • wat's ETR? guess when you said "free" u meant claimed it back in tax returns?

      • Education Tax Refund, only applies if you have kids in Primary or High School. Details here: http://www.educationtaxrefund.gov.au/what-is-the-education-t…

        • thanks mate…but too bad dont have any kids :)

        • no worries, if you have a business and therefore an ABN see the last centrecom lenovo deal for ideas on how to claim GST, deductions etc.

    • Umm… it is not 600 off 699.

699 is the final price after the cash back is included.

      • +1

it's actually 649.5 off your final price 699, as ETR gives you up to 50% back of the full price (1299).

        • If you do that, technically you should declare the cash back of $600 as income, and pay tax on it. But then, who cares about technicalities?

  • -1

Can't find any hard evidence that there is a HDMI OR DisplayPort… specs all seem to indicate it's just VGA

click T420/T520, look at the first photo, you will be able to see the DP on the T420 on top of the USB

      • I generally take specs lists over pictures any day… and the lenovo site is a nightmare to find the specific specs for this specific model, anyone else found it?

        • Have posted link to answer at the third time you asked this question below.

If you would have clicked the "Features" tab in the link the bctransit posted you would have seen it ;)

      • +1

As ccrap pointed out, I clearly missed the features section, lol. My bad… a bit too excited it would seem!

  • Does anyone know if the extra RAM is installed by Centre Com or can we install it ourselves?

    • Hi, Yes. You request when you purchase online.

      • CentreCom guy, can you confirm if this has HDMI / DisplayPort?

        • +1

See last dot point in this section: http://shopap.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/auweb/Leno…

DisplayPort video connector lets you attach a high-resolution digital display to your notebook. Use this next-generation display interface technology for everything from monitors to TVs to projectors and it even supports audio.

        • and does the display port allow digital audio over hdmi?
oops beat me to it. looks likevit does!

        • Yes it comes with DisplayPort, but no HDMI

        • Yes it comes with DisplayPort, but no HDMI

      • Cool. Will these be available for pickup in the morning?

        • +2

They will first release in Sunshine(HQ), and others store will have it available later

        • Thanks

      • Does that mean if we don't request it you don't put it in?

        • Normally we will install it for customer, but sometime customer want to receive as sealed box. We could attach the memory separately.

        • Yeah I'd rather install it myself.

        • lol. why? do you think they do the dodgy and swap around the factory 4GB module already in the lenovo with a cheaper one while doing the upgrade? Or do you just like to be the first to break the seal ;)

        • if we install it ourself will it void the warranty? I'm assuming there is just a hatch underneath to unscrew to install extra ram but thought I would ask just in case. anyone got a real world battery life of these?

  • +1

It says up to 24hrs battery life for the T420, in the video. OMG!

No HDMI, no USB 3.0, no Bluray player. Other than that, it's got all the goods.
    Lenovos are pretty bland looking.

    • +1

No Blue ray is acceptable. But Thinkpads are known to be best business laptops, I am surprised why they dont have usb3 (except w series)and hdmi.

      • Gotta remember this is a just Superceded Model, so don't expect latest features. Not even sure if the new T-series has any of this standard or optional.

        • I think, this is the latest T series. If I am missing something, can u tell me the latest T series?

        • @gagans
          http://shopap.lenovo.com/au/en/products/laptops/thinkpad/t-s…
          No cashback on current models.
Cashback is to clear last 1/4 models.

        • They look the same to me apart from the specs. Would you care to elaborate?

  • Does this actually have 1600x900? Because if you Google the model number, at other stores it lists the display as 1600x900.

    • +1

Good pick up! Yes all sites list 1600 x 900 for model number: 417855M

I even looked up Lenovo's support page for that specific model number and it came back with this:

      ThinkPad T420 (4178-55M)
      Operating System:Windows 7
      i5-2540M(2.6GHz), 4GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm HD, 14in 1600x900 LCD, NVIDIA N12P-NS1 1GB, CDRW/DVDRW, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN, Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64

If that is correct then OMFG, this deal just became waaaaaay too good, especially going by the usual "great machine but not enough res for me" comments found in most 1366 x 768 lappy deal threads.

      CentreCom rep, please confirm?

      • Definitely the cherry on top of a great deal if it is.

      • +2

        Yes it is 1600x900

  • How's the LENOVO Y560p compare? Centrecom had this for $785 after cashback a week ago.

    • +1

It's not a T-series business grade laptop. Depends what you want to do. I'm thinking the smaller screen is even a plus over the previous T520 deal - for portability.
