I've not tried this before. but its a case of full strength beer for $29 from Dan Murphys. I see there was a previous deal at 33.90 so this is cheaper. They have stock in my area (Sydney)

How does this compare to VB?
Being a predominantly Vietnamese beverage.Have a Vietnamese uncle coming for the weekend and need a case of beer.
Not a very strong taste like vb.
Not bad beer for the price.
If your uncle is use to vietnam beer this would suit himIf you had to compare it to another brand what would it be?
Aldi's Rivet Lager. Which is not a bad beer at all. I found that I liked all the beers in Vietnam.

@poisongodmachine: Rivet gold isn't that bad. I think it's still better than XXXX gold. You do have to have it cold though. You have to remember that this is OzBargain, and sometimes you have to make it through the pricing errors and CUB eBay combo deals sometimes. If I'm stuck and I have to buy an RRP case (i know that this is going against my username), i would still get a Rivet Lager (blue) from Aldi.
I haven’t actually tried it. But for the money I don’t think you’d go that wrong.

This is not full strength, I drank 6 cans just like drinking 6 cans of cold water, pretty tough, but it's beer. If your uncle is from VN, used to drink beer from a plastic cup, on the street verge, out of a keg, then he would probably like this.
He’ll think it’s great then. Just like home.
But maybe he’d like Australian rather than one of his local beers.
I would prefer Bier Om. unfortunately, Dan not stock these

I'm Vietnamese and we don't even drink stuff like this - they don't even sell it in Vietnam. If you want to make an impression, buy a case of Heineken or if your budget stretches a bit, go for a Young Henrys Newtowner

Yep born in Saigon.
Bia Hoi translates to fresh beer and they have it in the South as well. Just not as much as in the North and it comes in kegs generally brewed the same day. Normally drunken with ice and it doesn't come canned like the above.
You have to get the import Heineken the Aussie brewed one is horrible

But this is similar other asian beers (lucky beer, tsing tao)
Easy to drink / not very strong flavour
Good for hot weather
Been to Vietnam a few times but I've never heard of this brand
because unlikely it has been sold there - appears to be marketing speak from same company that trades as Thunder Road Brewing Company

4.3% low-mid strength for me.
That's the way beer is going. It's hard to find a good value 5% case nowadays.
4.3 isn’t full strength though.
Corona is 4.5% and stone and wood pacific is 4.4% so it’s not a high alcohol but mid strength is normally in the 3.5% range. So maybe a low-ish full strength is a better term.
I guess, true. Using the Untappd app you get a badge for taking it easy with low beers (under 5% is low!)
Above 3.5% gets taxed at the full strength rate.
So, the govt thinks it is full strength.

Ok price for what it is - funny Bia Hoi is a generic expression in Vietnam for little hole in the wall places that serve beer super cheap by the glass or jug. It literally means fresh beer and you'll sit out on milk crates and drink and it's a very good time.

I'd imagine it's very similar to Aldi's cheap Viet Lager, Rovet, sold for the exact same price.
Good find by the OP and for a session beer this one is not bad if you just want a simple crisp beer that doesn't try to be anything fancy.
Yeah, I don't mind Aldi's Rivet hey. When your looking at this end of the beer market, I've been disappointed by all the AUS offerings at this price point. The cheaper beers from AUS seem to have no taste at all. Bluey, Great Northern, Iron Jack, Byron Bay larger….. all taste like nothing. The only AUS beer that has really interested me is Hahn's Ultra Crisp (rice beer).
All those AUS beers you mentioned are not AUS owned anyway

All those clear filtered beers make me feel sick including Carlton dry, I think it’s because of the fining agent containing lactose
I just finished a can about 30 minutes ago (my first taste of this brand coz I couldn't resist the price for the slab). Crisp, light and not too bad but I wouldn't write home about it. The head retention on the can I opened wasn't great and the colour is very light, almost yellowish. The expiry date was 30/06/20 or thereabouts. On a stinking hot day, an icy cold one of these would be nice. Bitter finish only slight.
The cases at my local store had the same expiry date.
Up for a different beer ever case I purchase. So worth a try at this price. Purchased 4 x 6 packs with same expiry date here in Sydney. Just had to get them to adjust the price at checkout after showing them the correct price on website using phone at checkout. As it wasn't applying the correct discount using the members card.

More common to find Bia Hơi or Fresh Beer sold at all the local food joints. Bia Hơi is like a light beer and is about 40cents AUD in Vietnam.
If you want to try a Vietnamese beer, you could go for a 333 (Vietnamese translation is literally Ba Ba Ba and is bitter), Bia Hanoi/Hanoi Beer or the dodgey sounding Saigon Special. Again these aren't actually drunk by locals in Vietnam as people there tend to only drink Bia Hơi, Heineken or Tiger.
I tried a lot of beers in Vietnam and Saigon Lager was my favourite.
Well if you ever head back again, Vietnam has an emerging craft beer scene.
Can highly recommend the following bars/breweries:
Saigon/HCMC
Heart of Darkness, Biacraft, Winking Seal, Saigon OutcastHanoi
Furbrew, Pasteur StreetPasteur Street In HCMC also
Larue was my personal favourite.

Avoid at all costs. It's rubbish. Wouldn't even consider drinking it for a reward.
I'd rather buy a single bottle of any Prairie Artisan Ale stout for $30.Just picked up mine and its very very average. I'm not a beer snob and both myself and a few people who tried it didn't like it. If the price was $20 a case I might consider but probably would pay double for anything else. Glad I only bought 1 case.
Drink it super chilled as other have recommended and tasted fine.
Side bonus: Cash Rewards tracked immediately - fastest tracking I have seen. Saved another 33 cents! Should be enough to keep me in high spirit till a price error happens, hopefully before my beer stock is depleted.
