AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF $149 Delivered @ CentreCom

560

Been a while since my last post, so please forgive me if my formatting is off.

Saw this CPU now stocked at CentreCom, was previously only stocked at PCCG for $149 + shipping. (Should've held off ordering from them!)

It has been this price before, but the free shipping sweetens the deal for the performance you get - slightly less than a Ryzen 2600 according to the benchmarks due to the chip frequency.

Enjoy.

  • How's the performance go against a 1700x?

  • do we need bios update coming from a320 or b350? or is it still identified as 1600

    • I wouldn’t think so, any new motherboard should be supporting the 3000 series by now, so would definitely support the 1000 and 2000 series.

Best to check the manufacturer’s website and see what CPU is supported by which BIOS version (as well as see when that BIOS version was released). You’d have to be pretty unlucky to get such an old motherboard that hasn’t had a BIOS shipped with it that already supports the 2000 series.

As long as your mobo supports 2nd gen Ryzen (2600, etc) you should be fine.

    • +3

Yes, you need the bios updated to cover Ryzen 2000 series CPUs.

  • Someone please advise how I remove my 1500x and install this. I've got BIOS updated to the latest version. What does the process involve?

    • +8

remove cooler, take out old cpu, put in new one. Apply thermal paste, install cooler, and boot up. It's not difficult. Youtube is a good help too.

      • +1

He might need a bios update somewhere there if he had an old board that doesn’t support 2nd gen.

        • +3

True, although he says he has the latest bios installed, a compatibility check on the mobo support page would be prudent.

      • Apply thermal paste

        Round One… FIGHT!

        • Well i guess he could use peanut butter or toothpaste, it has been tested before….lol

          • @combatant: Lol don't give someone who hasn't changed CPUs before ideas like this!!!!

        • it's been proven not to matter. key is not too much, not too little, whatever shape you want. Everything else will give you the same result. stress testing the highest performing CPUs gives a few degrees difference between amounts and shapes.

  • Worth the upgrade over an FX8320 or FX6300 system?

  • -8

Not a deal… same price everywhere including pccg and ple.

    • People like it cause it's actually a ryzen 2600 (zen+) with slightly lower clocks. One of those 'australia finally has stock' posts I believe.

      • -4

I am aware of this, but this is in stock at the same price at 3 retailers

        • +4

Do those three places deliver free? I just noticed this one does so currently this is actually decent.

P.S. I didn't down vote you, but now I have.

          • -6

@Budju: Ple does, not sure about the others.

I downvoted you also, sorry if that makes you upset

  • Can anyone recommend a decent motherboard and RAM for this? Any deals out there?

    • what is the budget? what is the computer used for? what level of performance are you aiming for?

      Motherboard:

      • Super tight budget option (not overclocking, not thinking of much of a upgrade path in the future, not minding missing some features): A320 boards, ~$90, find here: staticice, PCPartPicker AU (Not recommended. I'd personally spend $15-25 more for budget B450 options)

      • Budget option (not overclocking): Asrock B450M-HDV (~$105, price check: staticice, PCPartPicker AU)

      • Best value, all-rounder, decent option (good components to support overclocking, and higher tier CPUs later on for upgrade): MSI B450 TOMAHAWK MAX (~$190, price check: staticice, PCPartPicker AU)

      • Even better option (better/more features than above): MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon (~$230-260, price check: staticice, PCPartPicker AU)

      RAM

Any dual channel (in brief, two sticks) DDR4 kits of at least 2666MHz (at least 3000MHz if budget allows)

If aiming for gaming, 16GB (2x8GB) is recommended (below price is what's found at time of posting)
      DDR4 2666MHz C16 Kit, $88.91: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0123ZC44Y?smid=ANEGB3WVEVKZB
      DDR4 3200MHz C16 Kit, $117.69: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01EI5ZRQY?smid=ANEGB3WVEVKZB

      • Thaaks heaps for all the info! I think I'll go for a B450 to future proof it I'll mainly be gaming so I'll try to squeeze the 3200MHz kit in as well =). Legend thanks again

  • Doesn't deliver to some capital cities.
