Been over a year since alexshel posted this great deal and a nice reminder for those unaware. I've copy/pasted the instructions from alexshel's OP, so thanks to him/her for all the initial efforts. Confirmed working by hm & alz. Stay safe, and enjoy :)

  1. Opt in for 30-day Prime trial.
  2. 3 days before trial ends, go to cancel and when a message to change a plan appears, click the button to switch to annual ($59).
  3. A day before trial ends, go to cancel and when a message to change a plan appears click the button to switch to annual ($59).
  4. Right after changing the plan go back to cancel the plan again - a message to extend the trial for another 30 days will appear.
  5. Click the button to extend the plan.

Update 03/05/19. How it may also work:

  1. Opt in for 30-day Prime trial.
  2. 3 days before trial ends, go to your account to cancel membership.
  3. On the second page of cancellation process, notice an offer for a 30-day extension and accept it.

Such a great service. The apps are crap but the price vs shows is really spot on for me. Free for 60 days is great.

-The Office + Parks and Recreation

    • +6

So many great shows like Psych and Justified to name a couple. Come on son!

      • Did you hear about Pluto?

      • +6

Anyone who hasn't seen Justified needs to self isolate and sort that out asap.

  • +16

just rewatching all episodes of Seinfeld is worth the yearly payment

but Amazon is clearly my favourite service - the ebooks, the free shipping, prime video, music… for a cheap yearly cost, its awesome

    • +3

and way better than ebay plus nonsense

  • +25

meanwhile over at eBay Australia's offices …… crickets

    • +20

Some eBay sales manager - "Get Tim Cook on the phone now! Tell him we need another 100 airpods or no one will sign up for our pointless eBay plus."

  • Amazon Prime is excellent value anyway, $5/mth if you take the yearly option.
There is not as much choice of content as Netflix or Stan but what they have is pretty good.
We just watched The Test, the doco series about the rebuild of the Aussie men's cricket team. Good stuff, highly recommended.

    • +8

I agree, for me, some of their originals alone are worth the $5pm like The Expanse, Picard, The Boys, etc

      • +5

Agree, the Expanse is just great, really underrated show. Picard is… ok. The premise is neat but I mean it just doesn't really feel like ST to me, and Picard himself seems pretty redundant in it so its a little disappointing for me.

        • +1

The Expanse has got to be one of the most scientifically accurate Scifi's ever. It ever got me started on reading the books. The books are highly recommended as well.
I agree Picard is not quite Trek spirit but it's also not silly action movies like recent ST movies either. Some episodes are amazing like ep 7 with Riker and Troi, some are all over the place like the latest one. It's just the first season so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt though.

    • +2

Agree. Netflix is full of so much tween rubbish and poorly made shows. If it were not for sharing an account i'd not have it at all.

  • +1

Thanks just got another 4 weeks worth.

Thanks for confirming. Linked your comment in the OP :)

iAgree with Prime membership being of excellent value. I purchased a one year membership last year after my trial expired; used a 40% off AMEX offer. Ended up costing less than $40 for a year!

  • +2

My trial is expiring tomorrow and the above does not work :(

    • 3 days before trial ends

      • +2

A day before trial ends, go to cancel and when a message to change a plan appears click the button to switch to annual ($59).

Steps 1 and 2 already performed 2 days ago. Sorry, should have mentioned this initially.

        • +1

My trial was ending 25th March but i had cancelled few days ago. Went activated now then cancelled then before i actually cancelled i changed to Yearly then cancel that and you will get the extension.

Try back and forth between yearly and monthly and see how you go

          • +1

@alz: The thing is that my trial was set to yearly in the first place. Maybe this is why I am unable to get this offer.

            • +1

@polstralian: Yes it makes sense. Sorry looks like you are missing out.

            • +1

@polstralian: Maybe try changing it to monthly and back. My trial was set to expire tomorrow, changing it to yearly then cancelling worked for me.

  • Just in time. My prime expires on the 26th.

Ops nevermind. Might try the cancel membership trick and see what they offer.

  • +2

    Picard.
    The Expanse.
    American Gods.
    1 Free Twitch subscription.
    Many items with free postage.

    I happily pay for it.

      Jack Ryan +1

        The Boys

      • +3

JR season 1 is quite good, however season 2 was a bit disappointing imo

        • I would think the opposite

    • How come no one ever mentions The Boys? It's pretty dark but good.

  • I cant even sign up for a free trial, its probably because I was a paid prime member till december.

    • +2

just create a new email address and register

      • They know when you've signed up before if you use same credit card unfortunately.. Can't work around unless you different credit card each time you sign up for free trail now.

    • +1

Doesn’t it say that you’ll be billed after the trial expires when you sign up?

      • -1

I no longer sign up to these "deals" as a result

    • +15

'I got a free trial and forgot to cancel and so they charged me like I agreed to…. COMPLETE BS MAN'

      • +3

It has happened to me couple of times, but amazon USA has been kind enough to give me a full refund. My poor memory to be blamed.

        • .. happened to me too … they go out of their to give refunds ..

      • As if it's not a business model for us to absent mindedly leave it subscribed.

      • +1

Not to mention that if he/she contacts Amazon support, they’ll be happy to cancel it and refund the unused days. Total BS man!

  • Um, is this for Prime or Prime video, or are they the same thing?

    • +1

Prime Video is a feature of having a Prime membership, so it's the same thing, you just use the same login.

      • OK cool, just created a new account and there's an option to try both, thanks :)

    • Same thing. Prime gives you access to the video. Free shipping. Etc.

  • +1

This also worked just now for me with only 2 days left on current Trial period doing it in one step without any previous cancellation attempt.

Did the cancel plan and click the button to switch to annual ($59).
Right after changing the plan go back to cancel the plan again - a message to extend the trial for another 30 days will appear.
Click the button to extend the plan.

Thanks to alexshel for the original and TA for the reminder which got me the extension.

  • Damn ineligible.

  • +1

    The Expanse
    Hanna
    Covert Affairs

    Quite a lot on

    • +1

The Expanse is great. I was already watching it when it was on Netflix AU/Syfy and I jumped to Prime when they acquired it. It's a really engaging sci fi, definitely one of my faves.

  • Can I "share" an account with a mate? We will probably have 2 delivery addresses there and 2 credit card details (1 each)

    • Shouldn’t be a problem. I have shipped to different addresses of both amazon.com and amazon.in and with different cc. I don’t think they care. Haven’t tried that on au site though.

  • +1

Thanks for reposting TA, you can set a reminder on this post to remember to cancel

    • +1

      Tell your phone

      Ok google or siri
      Set reminder

Say it or enter it depending on version.

    • Or just add it to your calendar and set alarm to the day of event

    • +2

You can set a reminder on amazon settings to send you an email before renewing.

      • Thanks, haven't signed up yet, but will do this and phone reminders

  • new users only?

  • What is everyone buying from Amazon?
I know it's free but if I'm not buying anything from there is it worth It

    • What is everyone buying from Amazon?

Noodles, soup, hand sanitizer, masks, soap.
      I guess?

    • +2

      Apart from anything and everything?

If you aren't all this time, not sure how we can convince you.

    • Toilet paper man, toilet paper.

  • +1

Surprised I haven't seen the existing customer rant

I demand as a loyal customer I get this month free as well!

    • +2

I'm more surprised why so many don't already have it…

    • Rants can come in different forms. Some many just appear like neutral comments. Bottom line is that the existing customers won't be happy.

      • +4

I'm an existing customer and for what it's worth, I don't particularly mind that I'm paying each month.
Amazon Prime + Prime Video + Twitch + Prime Music is a very nice, cheap bundle.
If you pay a year up front, it's $4.92/month.

  • +1

Hahaha, love u!!! my trial ends on 25th and just more one more month. Thank you!!

  • For new customers only seems like. I signed up and it cost me 6.99. I had get it refunded.

  • +5

FYI if you're a student (i.e you have a .edu email address) you can get a 6-month free trial.

    • Does that include .edu.au addresses? I'm not a student though. When I click on the link, it brings me to the US Amazon site. I already have an account there that is different to my AU account.

      • Doesn't include .edu.au emails according to Reddit.

        • I might be mistaken but I swear I did this for my AU account with my uni email - will update if I figure it out.

Edit: It might have worked because my uni email is .edu

      • I can't find the link but I'm fairly sure I did this with my AU account because I got free shipping via prime. If I can figure it out, I'll update you.

Edit: It might have worked because I have an .edu email for uni

    • can anyone confirm if it works with a .edu.au email address?

  • +1

I got an offer from Qeeq (formally easy rent cars). $7usd for 6months prime. Know nothing about it

    https://m.qeeq.com/product/membership/detail?id=338582805&ut…

Could be a deal in itself..don't know.

    • seems suss

  • +1

Does it work if you have previously signed up in the past? Or do you need a new account?

    • +1

Yeah it did for me! Bonus as usually it hasn't in the past as I had already used the trial so normally had to create new account with new email.

      • Hmm… I can't see anywhere to sign up for a free trial? Only gives me the option to pay.

        • It just simply went to sign up page rather than pay page like it normally does. It has been more than 12 months since my primary account had the free trial so maybe there is a period after which it resets?

  • used this recently thanks so much

  • I signed up today so do I need to cancel on 22 April to change plan/ extend it or can i do it sooner?

  • great

  • +1

    Awesome!

  • Great deal!

  • +6

    This just worked for me:

    1. Opt in for 30-day Prime trial.
    2. 3 days before trial ends, go to cancel and when a message to change a plan appears, click the button to switch to annual ($59)(it won't charge you).
    3. After switching to annual, Go to cancel and on the second page of cancellation process, notice an offer for a 30-day extension and accept it.
  • Does it work if you already pay for a yearly subscription of prime?

  • -1

I will have to investigate what this Prime fuss is all about

  • +2

    This just worked for me:

I was going to roll onto an annual subscription after my 30 day trial.

3 days before trial ends, go to cancel and when a message to change a plan appears, click the button to switch to monthly (it won't charge you).
After switching to monthly, Go to cancel and on the second page of cancellation process, notice an offer for a 30-day extension and accept it.

    Thanks OP

  • Cheers, just worked for me

  • cheers, worked for me :)

  • So.. just to clarify:
Are the Renewal date and "end of trial" the same thing? Or is the renewal date, a day after tye end of your trial?

Sorry if this was a silly question. I just want to make sure I do this right.

    • of course diff.
renewal means you already member for a year, ie already paid and the fee will get renewed
end of trial is you are just on trial

  • +1

Happy to report this works. My credit card was supposed to be charged on 22 April.

I changed the plan to annual on 20 April.
Attempted to cancel the membership on 21 April and was presented with the button to extend the trial.

    Hope that helps.

  • +1

Still works. It was required to change plans from annual to monthly or otherway around for the prompt to appear.

Edit: trial was ending on same day as this was attempted.

  • ok will set reminder to check this thread 2 days before renewal..
ah just realised this is to extend trial.

  • +1

So my membership was about to end tomorrow, I switched to annual when asked, then went to cancel and got the 30day extension. Thanks!
