Cheap Cheap Bananas at Coles Castle Hill NSW. Only $2 for a Big Bag. Still Fresh

5612

I thought i would post this as a matter of interest, but i went into coles late last night and there was a trolley of bananas for only $2 a bag. Now these bags where full of bananas and the weight was well over 1kg. They also had a still fresh sticker on them. most of the bananas where either ripe or green so we grabbed a couple of bags. Got home and we couldn't fathom why they where discounted. Anyway i am sure this was a once off thing but it pays to shop late night on a Sunday.

Should have bought the lot and sold them outside woolies for $10 a kilo.

      OW price match! YEEEEEEEAAAHH

  • -8

mm interesting, but not a deal

they have marked down produce, reguarly

    like lunchtimes for example

    sorry op :P

  • +1

I think you need to change your title to "Castle Hill, NSW" not catle hill.

  • +12

I would have been expecting some great beef and milk deals from catle hill.

    • +6

Not to forget, er, fertilizer. :)

    • +25

So green fruit which is yet to ripen is soon to be out of date?
I agree, not a bargain as there isn't enough time to make a cake or anything with what, 6 or 7 bananas. OP should have posted this when the bananas were still on the tree and growing…

What about all these 1-Day and Harvey Norman buys which the chocolate is best before or used by something soon, do you neg based on this?

      • +1

the point i was making is. should i post every deal my local coles has when i go in there 99cent donuts bread rolls for 69cents

These are not ozbargain deals they are just simple mark downs

To be on this site a deal must be at every location, be a really good deal people will travel for or like you mentioned 1-day deals should be open to everyone and have stock to fulfill orders

        • +7

Fair point for your first sentence yes.

As far as a deal being at every location to be on this site; that's complete rubbish :)
Have you noticed deals such as VIC only every wednesday or whenever when they get cheap alcohol..
Posts where something is available at one or two stores only come up all the time and they are still valid.

        • +13

Come on man, these are bananas! I haven't had a banana since I was overseas.

        • +3

Yeah i agree with cakesy…Bananas are so expensive these days…

Its cheaper sniffing petrol than eating bananas.

  • +3

nice one. i'm hoping it's not long now before this is the standard price. this time last year I was buying bananas for 90c/kilo at the market!

  • what's the point of posting this? noone else will be able to get any

    • +3

I agree. The OP saw the banana's late last night but just posted the deal 39 mins ago. I am sure those banana's aren't left there still so no one gets them. So the whole point was to a) brag that you got cheap bananas and/or b) it's better to shop late at night.

      Thanks OP advice taken.

I don't think this is a good reason to neg the guy. If you don't think it should be posted then report it to a mod. Please check out the wiki and the voting rules.

      • +2

He's not negging the guy, he's negging the deal.

    • as i stated it was posted because i thought it was interesting that coles can sell perfectly good bananas at $2 a bag and to show how much of a rort the price of bananas are. nothing more.

      • It may have simply been a clearance sale, they didn't want to hold onto the stock.

      • +3

If you just thought it was interesting but not actually a bargain as per ozbargain guidelines, then it should have been posted in the forum.

  • +29

    How much is postage?

    • +8

Get office works to price match, $1.90 a bag.

      • +2

Let me know when you've done it and the store…lol

      • +4

        and 5% staff discount

        • +2

          and use a gift voucher.

        • I got told no pricematch as they are grey imports :(

    • best post from Jv…I've seen so far…haha u deserve a +ve!

  • +15

    This $h*t is Bananas B A N A N A S

    • +1

dear admiral, you got to try this thing. But wait until it turns brown and gooey… yummm

  • +7

I don't neg often but have to neg this

The next thing you know we'll have Ozbargain flooded with 2000 posts for various local greengrocers disposing of rotting fruit for discounted prices..

I agree with OP that it was a good deal for those shopping at Catle Hill on Sunday night but not worth posting…

I love all the posting rules Nazi's on here - this place is becoming as overmoderated as Whirlpool…

    • +7

This place could possibly never be as overmoderated as WP

    • I believe there is already a thread about discounted supermarket items

    • I like how you kept with Catle Hill :)

  • +9

wow some of you guys are harsh! some places are still selling bananas for $12+ a kg OP saw a cheap deal and thought straight away of posting on Ozb! no bad intentions there! however fresh fruit is considered 'perishable' goods and not the usual deal seen here, in fact 2 weeks ago our local had cheap bananas for like $3 a bag but i didn't post because of limited amounts, so go easy on OP, personally i'd rather people post more deals to give more people a choice rather than discourage new posts

    • +1

Agree Morpheu and well done OP. Maybe a bit late but intention is good. If it is not up to scratch mods would remove. I love to see more variety of bargains, even if i miss out on them due to location or whatever reason - this is not just a WP bargain board!

      • then again, we only + if we believe that others should know about this deal.

Now, do you believe that someone in Brisbane or Melbourne REALLY NEED to know about this deal? Probs. Not.

  • +3

    Thanks OP. Appreciated!

  • +1

Bananas are currently the fruit of kings, since my local store (Norwest, near Woolies HQ) sells them for 10-12/kg still.

Since I live near Towers, this is my kinda deal :P

  • +3

that is what we need here. I am a bit sick of seeing all those tablets go on sale. I mean we cant even afford for foods nowadays and we spend money on Gadget. Great post. Banana for the win

  • +8

i work at safeway produce and we do this stuff all the time. everyday in fact. its generally fruit thats overripe or going bad.

these will be gone if they were there sunday night - definitely would have sold, or if not probably thrown out. so pretty pointless in posting

    • +2

Agree. Used to work at coles some years ago in produce and we would do the same and it would be gone the same night. Deals arnt deals if you cant actually buy it. Probably best in the discussion section about general discounting of procude, milk, meat and deli products.

    • +1

Also agreed. Happened at the supermarket I used to work at years ago regularly. This is not really appropriate for ozbargain.

  • +2

    i agree.

  • +8

local woolies had 2L milk going out for 50c last night!

    Inform the Prime Minister!

    • +7

No, don't tell the PM; she will insist it be sent off-shore for processing.

      • +2

Too late! Here in Sydney, all milk is eventually processed off-shore… off Bondi ;)

        (Ok, I'll just go now)

  • +4

How about shipping to victoria? In here a kilo is well above $10 in every place. Due to high price of banana my cost of living has gone up a lot in this year :(

  • +3

Are we still a Banana Republic?

    • We have no Banana and Ain't a Republic yet.

  • +1

I haven't seen a post with so many + and - votes at the same time. It is different from the other posts which get a lot of + votes at the start and then get hammered with - votes because people are not able to get the deal or if it is price error thingy.

  • +5

Supermarkets do this all the time, the bananas are either gone (probably within 5 minutes) or thrown out by now

  • -2

Don't always believe the 'still fresh' sticker.

I don't buy much fruit or vegetables nowadays, I found them always boring and unfilling, now I began eating alot of organ meats which you get alot of vitamins and minerals from, not expensive either.

    • +5

      Organ meats?

      Heart, lung, liver, testes?

      • lol at the organ meats that supermarkets are likely not selling <- Testes, Reproductive Organs, AnyOtherOrgansThatOtherCulturesMayEat.

  • +1

    No deal, sorry mate.

  • +1

I really dont think this is a deal…

Some supermarkets (like my Wollies) send (through the mic) a message to shoppers that near the end of the produce section, all fruits and veggies in black boxes, can fill up a plastic bag, and they tag the bag for $5. People aim for expensive stuff like Passionfruits, Mangoes and Tomatoes. Yet, I wouldn't post this. Maybe in forums but not in deals, because i (and you probably too) didn't research if it was widely available to others.

I guess many people gave you sympathy votes.

But to balance it out (and based on my reasons) i'm negging this deal.

:| sorry if you feel bad (then again dont get emotionally attached to anything on the internet!)

    • Lol, wishful thinking especially on this site!

  • Almost worth the drive to Castle Hill…and I'm in Brissie!

  • +1

bana na na na na, na na na na na, make those bodies sing!

  • +1

    Useless post

  • I'm negging this not because of the post, but because it made the front page.

No offence to you OP, but this post is too localised and too limited to qualify as a "bargain". I'm only negging this to inform the mods that this should not make the front page, in hope that we get more quality front page bargains next time :)
