    • I get your logic, but this site is not "OzInStock"…..

    • You're spot on. Works out better if you buy more than 1 too - same shipping cost. People saying they're gouging (in the current climate) are wrong.

  • +8

I don't have a moral issue with businesses making as much as they can in very difficult times, but in the context of Ozbargain, this is not a bargain.

  • +4

    Not a bargain!

These guys are price gouging. They are taking advantage of people and probably see this pandemic as great opportunities as their employee are continuing to work. The change to making sanitiser probably make them a "essential service" in their eyes.

Been to their distillery before and know that their process takes just 6 hours and mainly cause they dont actually make their own alcahol. Its always been a rip off, except now they are doing it to a sensitive sector.

    • They don't make their own alcohol? Reselling ethanol at a huge markup. Less sympathy from me.

  • Maybe they are trying to control demand by marking up the price this much but either way I'm not paying $50 for a bottle of sanitiser.

Hand sanitisers are not even as effective as using bar of soap to wash your hands.
Are you really going out that much during lockdown to need sanitiser on the go?

  • Paid 13 bucks for 1 ltr aquim sanitiser just before stock ran out. Crazy times and crazy price for hand sanitiser.

  • +2

    Price gauging much

  • +3

This disgusting rip off must end.

  • +1

    since when did a pre-order become a deal ?

what's to say that they don't even make it, and run off with your monez

  • Full marks for making this products, but marks off for price point

  • +8

$50 for 1ltr of sanitiser who up votes this mess of a deal

    • People who can't do math.

      • +2

Most people need it delivered genius 🤦‍♂️

    • +2

Those same people who willing to pay $1 per toilet paper roll and $17 a kilo for chicken breast. Or even worse $18 a kilo for beef mince.

  • +4

During this time, $20-25 per litre is acceptable, considering supply/demand. But $40/L is way over priced.

  • +4

So you charge $240 for a bottle of 5L ehtanol???

That's simply a rip-off. You can go online and buy some ethanol for much less than that. Some bottles of 5L pure ethanol sold in the last 2 days for $60 - $100.

    Shame!

  • Bunnings, can you get antibacterial wipes from Bunnings because I've got maybe a dozen in the packet I have left.

  • Whats the gin like? I am more keen on the gin part.

  • +4

Profiteering in a time of crisis, what an embarrassment. Up until a few weeks ago I routinely bought 20L of undenatured analytical grade 96% ethanol for $75 (have tax exemption) and it was THAT expensive because it analytical grade.

  • +1

Was at Chemistware house today, and the one i was at makes their own Hand sanitizer they were asking $60 for 1L Plus $10 For Freight…

So i guess this would be cheaper in that case? but still i'd not purchase either lol…

  • +8

    Simple profiteering.

I hope when all this is over, consumers boycott their brand for this behaviour.

  • Wash you hands!!!!!!!!
Irrespective of everyone's comments, guaranteed people will still buy if they want it badly enough…. Simple supply and demand…

  • This is not a deal

  • +1

I don’t want to sound like the “rule police” but I’m not sure the negative voting rules are being followed here.

    • +3

Price gouging is the opposite of a bargain.

      • But is it price gouging? This is not a product they have created before so they haven’t increased their product price, dramatically. They are producing a product and setting a price for it, we don’t know what their costs are. The average punter doesn’t have to pay the price.

It is expensive but so is a luxury car, over a bog standard one. You could say Mercedes is “price gouging” it’s luxury cars but you would be hard pressed to justify a “neg”.

        • Maybe the law can't prove it because it is a new item, but you can't pretend their costs would be more than a couple of dollars.

Also, deals don't have to match the same barcode, unless you work for officeworks. The same item available from another brand has always been good enough comparison here

          • @greatlamp: So you want to itemise their costs to me? Off you go, tell me exactly what it costs to produce sanitiser, from scratch, including tooling it up to provide the alcohol, at the right strength, adding the other ingredients, bottling it, marketing it etc. if you can do it for a couple of dollars I will put my order in now.

They may well have committed to do this and then found out it cost them a lot more to produce than they thought. I don’t know, but I do know they sell their gin for $94 a litre, so you would probably whine about them price gouging that as well.

            • +2

@try2bhelpful: They don't have to tool up. They already make spirits. All they have to do it stop diluting their current production.

Most of the cost of retail spirits is tax.

You seem to assume making alcohol is difficult or expensive because these companies spend so much in marketing. It is simpler than making bread.

              • @greatlamp: They don’t make alcohol, to sell, at the requisite 75%, at the moment and the tooling up covers more than just distilling the alcohol. Go on, given me your “couple of dollars” breakdown. I’m intrigued to see it.

  • +3

Just because of virus outbreak, it does not make it a deal nor does it stop you from getting the virus. No deal.

  • +8

I agree this is simple profiteering. I know a owner of a small business who has also recently switched to making hand sanitiser, he told me it was just pure gold at the moment and more worthwhile than his current production. It was simple to change for him and he charges about $45 for 1.2L and delivery on top. Its an absolute joke and they get away with it because people are nuts and willing to promote this kind of behaviour. If you guys want prices to go back to being reasonable stop buying at these crazy rates. Most people arent meant to be going out anyway so not as much need for this.

  • +1

very expensive. can make it yourself for much cheaper.

  • +5

Commenting to neg. Poor play from Four Pillars. They're not some two-bit small producer just trying to survive, they are a huge operation.

    • +2

      Me too. This is shocking.

      • They've lost a long time customer

  • Not quite sure about their production cost but is this the right price for hand sanitizer?

    • They say "we’re using the heads and tails from each distillation" that's the crap at the start at end of the run that they normally throw away!

  • Very clear Profiteering.

  • +2

Wtf over 10,000 clicks for outrageous pricing.

These people like many others are taking the public for dummies. They are using their brand equity to make $$$ from the gullible people that have to wait 3 weeks for an artisan product that does not belong on OZB.

They are owned by an international conglomerate that's been using similar predatory high end sanitizers internationally in other markets. Awfully deceptive behaviour and certainly does not belong on this website.

there's so much more information that I have about sanitizer and the base material that is going to flood the market in 2 weeks… You are going to wait 3 weeks and pay an exorbitant price for this. It's truly absurd.

For anyone that is looking to purchase this product…I'm more than happy for you to private message me and I promise you in 10days I'll provide a link for a product that will be half the price and readily available save your money for god sake

    • -2

You do realise that this is a premium product being sold to fans of their gin? I doubt that anyone will even open it. It will go on the shelf with their gin collection.

  • rip off

  • Their website is down. Maybe they're removing a zero.

  • Woolworths are showing stock for 2 different hand sanitisers a 250ml and a 200ml, $8 a bottle, you can check your area for stock.
