    is the phone locked?

    • no

    • +13

It seems most people don't know but many years ago the government put laws to stop phone locking interfering with competition.
      1) From the day you buy a locked phone the seller has to unlock it at your request for no more than $50 (That may be slightly higher now with inflation)
      2) If it is 6 months or longer since you purchased the phone they have to unlock for free (normally unlocking is something you do yourself with a key)

The mobile companies don't advertise this because they are not stupid, they just changed their profit models

      SOME INTERESTING EFFECTS:
This changed the contracts and options that Mobile companies offer. They used to know your phone was hard to sell locked so they would offer trade in after 1 or 2 years and over charge you constantly.

Even though the NBN was destroyed when they changed it from fibre to the home to fibre to the node and we have comparatively terrible home internet our mobile phone network is ranked higher than USA and in top 10 countries in the world. This is thanks to regulations allowing non-tower owning companies into the market and making changing providers as easy as possible through causing the big 3 to compete with each other and dozens of smaller companies

So we have to pay one month's worth of plan right? $45 then cancel right?

    • going by comments from last deal no you shouldn't be charged if you cancel, see comments half way down this page

    • +2

I cancelled the plan the day I received the phone. Got a bill a month later, to pay in a month's time, for the cost of the phone as was specified on the website/paperwork.

No need to pay for one month if you cancel soon enough.

The deal is an exploit of two promotions, no early exit fees and reeuced price handset.

  • +1

Minimum cost comes up as $739 (including first month plan fee $40)

  • +12

$799 (+$780 for a 12 month 65gb pm Telstra plan) gets you a S20+ at JB Hi-fi. I know that doesn't suit everyone but thought I'd remind anyone glossing through the comments.

    • But can you cancel the plan and not have to pay it out, like this deal allows? If so i'm very interested!!

    • Is this advertised anywhere? Also, is it the 5g or 4g version?

      • +1

S20 is the 4G on the JBHI FI and it has an additional plan cancelation charge so id pass

the vodafone S10 is 4G 128gb and no plan cancelation fee, just your SIM

    • +2

Do you have direct link to this deal? I could only find $65/mth for 12mths with $400 jb hifi voucher promo…

      • It's on the back page of the catalogue.

  • Available in store?

    • should be

      • +2

Sorry for the unrelated tangent - what’s with the grey shading over some users comments? Did I miss something?

        • +1

          he's the OP

        • That would be the OP.

        • No idea started few days ago, I only see it on my comments, is it on yours to?

            • @starburstyellow: Thanks all - seems like my comments are shaded one colour and the OPs another. Appreciate the clarification!

              • @phidj003: I can see the shading on your comments
maybe you changed something in your profile to enable it?

    • +1

Stock is THIN to non exisitant and stores are sending them out to you at home anyway, so buy online

    • Got mine at vodafone store in Bankstown central today. More in stock there.

  • dual sim?

    • Only on 512gb versions. Samsung is pretty tight.

  • +2

what is the best plan to get on that includes a phone? Seems like there are no good plans out there right now

  • +2

If you choose to cancel your Red Plus Month to Month Plan, your MPP will auto cancel and 100% of the remaining handset instalments will be applied to your next bill. Recurring monthly plan fee charged until the end of the month in which you cancel.

  • Site is down atm.

699 should be enough to buy a new pixel 4a. I'd rather wait.

    • if it supports Qi Charging, will jump right into boat :)

      • Unlikely, if Qi is important to you, you might have to go samsung

        • pixel 3 and 4 has it.

  • +10

    Eligible for TRS?

    [I'll see myself out]

  • +1

I think its $720 no sure about early termination fee's tho at optus too https://www.optus.com.au/mobile/phones/samsung/galaxy-s10?co…

  • Hmm this vs pixel 4 XL? I'm not sure which to go for

    • I am in the same boat, love the pixel design but missing a few key features. Really dislike the curved screen on the s10+….
      Decisions decisions

      • Sorry I'm being lazy. What are those features that are missing? My Pixel XL 2 has just died and I liked it as a phone

        • +1

microSD card slot and headphone jack for a start?

        • +1

I am probably living in the past but the headphone jack and SD card are very hand features I'd like to hold onto.
Plus the battery life on the pixel is meant to be quite a bit worse.

          • @spacebanana: We have a young one so the camera is relatively important to us. I was happy to use the adapter for headphones but the lack of microSD is a downside. Also yes, the battery is very disappointing from what I am reading

I think the user experience on the Pixel is pretty friendly fwiw

            • @dufchips: Ive actually had a S10 before and currently have a oneplus 7t now. I don't think I would go for S10 again as Exynos is that bad.

I think I will roll the dice and go for pixel xl and sell the 7t

              Edit:pixel has snappy 855? Or 845?

        • No ultra wide lense.

        • Wow, dead already. That didn't last long. I'm still using a Note 3 but I've gone for this S10 deal as I can't install or update some apps now (e.g. Macca's). I have gone through a few batteries though :-)

The Stone Age pre 5G versions have dropped below 500 on f marketplace. Wanna take piccies, buy Huaway, be a sheep yep Same Sung

    • Wanna hand over all your data to the Chinese Communist Party, buy "Huaway".

      • Nice one Snowdownunder.

      • Wish we could export out bats to China! Be data scared, buy the Nokia with a rotary dial!

  • +2

If it was dual sim, I would jump on it. Still very good deal for those who won't need two sim sluts

    • +5

Who would sell themselves for SIMs?

      • -2

        woosh

  • Anyone know what the extra cost will be for the phone if you cancel straight away?

  • +1

Thanks to darwin for the correction, seems that the code might be different for each person.

  • +3

Code CAFQUL didnt work. But at the cart page where you can enter a code, you hit back on your browser, and it comes up with a one use "leaving so soon" $20 code. Mine was CARKRC.

    • +2

Confirmed just now that this works. Although you don't have to click back. You just need to click a different tab in your browser, then come back, and you'll see the popup that can apply your code. (In Chrome at least).

      • CAFQUL also works for me, as stwr779 said you have to click a new tab in Chrome and the pop up discount will appear

  • so how does this actually work? i have 3 plans on my account, 2 sim only plans and 1 phone and plan, and wanted to add a phone i can pay monthly.

do you just add to the plan and then when you receive the phone you cancel the plan and just pay if off monthly?

  • Error link? or Ozbargainers crash it?!

  • +1

MY ADVICE IS 5G IS COMING TO VODAFONE MID YEAR, THEY WILL PROBABLY MATCH OPTUS DOUBLE DATA DEALS AS A SIGNUP BONUS

Also the A20 for $199 is a great handset for day to day use, just toss in some expandable memory if 32gb is a bit cramped for songs, podcast and video/pic's <<<<

    • +1

Got my A20 from Kmart weeks ago for 169 voda vers and unlocked it. Nice screen! Still wondering what to do with the $30 card.

      • +1

get some extra memory and use the $30 to pay for it as 32gb is a bit slim

  • Got the headset now, how do we get contract cancelled. Called 1555 20mins on waiting,no one answered.

    • A lot of people are having the same issue. The call centres in India are either closed or operating at very limited capacity. Another Ozbargainer waited 4 hours and nothing.

      • Thanks for your update. Do you have any success? was thinking to visit one of their shops.

        • Did visiting the store work? Am thinking of buying the handset+plan and then cancelling the contract at the exact same time whilst in store.

    • +1

Somebody suggested that you can port your number to another carrier which will automatically cancel the plan.

I will do that if I cant get through to vodafone to cancel the plan. I will probs get the cheapest pre-paid sim card and then migrate to that, hopefully that will automatically cancel the vodafone plan. The downside is that I will probably have to pay for the first month of the plan, plus whatever the new pre paid sim card will cost. The upside is not having to wait for hours and not having to talk to anyone.

  • Does this have much annoying bloatware?

    • +1

its got all the samsung apps as well as googles, so yes but you can disable apps or even reflash from XDA

      • Thanks, Sorry I should have specified I meant vodaphone specific bloatware

  • +2

For those signing up plans come with 1 year Amazon Prime free, see if you can activate that before cancelling

Get a 12 month trial subscription to Amazon Prime when you sign up to this plan with this device. $6.99/mth after trial ends. 1 trial per service per Prime account. Offer ends 27/04/20. T&C apply.

    • +1

Amazon Prime is cancelled at the time you cancel the phone plan. I read it in the fine print.

    • +1

What happens to my Amazon Prime membership if I leave Vodafone or cancel my eligible plan?
Your Amazon Prime membership will be cancelled immediately and any remaining time on your trial period will be forfeited.

Anyone having a problem with their ID check? I got the text this morning to complete it and after I do the drivers licence and face recognition the I get 'Error Encountered - There is an Error on our side'. I've tried 3 times now.

    • Yep, I had exactly the same problem. And you can't call them because their call centre is in India so it's shut down by COVID. I ended up going in-store, which I really didn't want to do. Apparently they're setting up an Australian call centre "next week".

I told them about my online troubles and they were super confused. We ended up doing a new application and I was approved on the spot (In addition to the ID problems, the online application said they needed time to check my credit).

      • After trying about 3 times today I just gave it another shot and it worked.

    • They want you to go on your phone and take a selfie for them?
That's quite invasive - I've not encountered a bank that asks for this for any loan.
But I can't call them to complain - their call centre is down.

      • Airbnb and some other services also do this. I agree I dont like doing it but I understand why because otherwise you could apply with stolen drivers license.

  • Can't get online to process the sale for me. Could you buy the phone in-store for this price?

  • Vodafone are less than F**king useless. The online form will not accept my drivers licence number (it is 5 digits long, the field says it requires a minimum of 6 digits) and will not let me proceed further without it. When I click for someone to give me a call back, there are dates but no times to select for the callback to occur - effectively making the offer of support useless.

Called my local and they have no stock of the S10 so that avenue is a dead end too…

    • Silly question but did you try a zero at the beginning?

      • I should have said, but yeah I did try that. 3 hours later I got an email saying something went wrong, I can only assume it was my licence number because my credit is like the gold standard. I am the type of customer that credit companies beg to see applying…

  • this or the op 7t?

  • do you think office works would price match?

    • +1

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Would be great if they would but can't see how they would as not an outright phone purchase. Maybe someone who works there can confirm?

      • yeah hope someone confirms

        • no chance, this is a contract that needs to then be cancelled

  • +1

How does warranty work if you cancel your plan? How long is the warranty period and is it still with Vodafone directly?

    • Warranty would remain intact - you are still buying the phone outright from Vodafone.

  • What a debacle this is, I tried calling today to port my number over to Vodafone - 'due to the impacts of COVID-19 we are unable to take your call'. They then give an email that I can't really hear because it is muffled and asks you to send them the number you want to port and something about a 7(?) digit SMS code which I have no idea how to get.

Tried calling Vodafone earlier today to cancel the plan. First I chose the "for all other enquiries" option and they hung up on me instantly. Second time I tried the "change/upgrade plan" option and was placed on hold.

While waiting, I had a few Vodafone tabs open in my browser, and eventually noticed a live chat option in one of them. Entered my details and waited for someone to help. Every few minutes, I'd get a chat message saying that an operator would be with me shortly, please wait. After 15 minutes, these updates stopped for some unknown reason.

I managed to get second chat running in another browser, and this time I only had to wait a couple of minutes before someone became available. I started typing my enquiry, and AT THE SAME TIME I was taken off hold (been on hold for about 50 minutes at this point), so I closed the chat and was able to get the plan cancelled over the phone fairly easily. Was told I'd be billed for the handset ($699) only.

    (Cue Final Fantasy fanfare music)

    • surprising that voda didn't charge you for the first month considering it's a break of 12 month contract? i'm assuming it's 12 month as i'm looking at one now and it says 12 months not month-to-month?

      • Might be because I cancelled within the first 30 days of signing up, but I guess I'll only know for sure once they send the bill.

The plan I had was month-to-month, although I didn't activate the SIM card just to be safe.

    • Can u please provide the link to chat to Voda?
