Do you remember about 2 weeks ago Coles started cutting non-available lines and replacing with bulk sections of only a single line. ie, Instead of having most eggs empty, they filled the entire egg section with only Farm Pride 12pk, or bacon, instead of having 30 varieties, only had primo 750g - hundreds of them… I think this is what happened to this butter, and now as normal stock comes in, it needs to go.
I think you're right, went to my local and they were clearing out some of these single line items- a fair few cheese lines (Bega, Coon, home brand). This butter was cleared at $2.50 not $1.50 though.
These butter always have a short expiry date even at full price.
I have used butter six months past it’s best before date and it was fine
