  • Anyone have experience porting from Optus post paid to prepaid on this deal? My contract has just about ended and I wanted to go prepaid

  • Merged from Optus Prepaid $180 SIM Starter Kit (120GB Double Data, 365 Day Expiry) - $150 @ Optus Online Only

Found this while looking online. Also confirmed with optus sales that you don't get double data if you tried to buy it from say officeworks (I actually tried to get OW to price beat over the phone but they claimed they couldn't find the deal online and asked me to go in-store - wtf? Actually lucky I didn't buy from OW because it was only afterwards I called up optus to see if it was an online only offer). Also rang my local optus shop and they also confirmed it has to be online.

My problem is that my current CatchConnect runs out today (got 1 day left) and I'm not sure if I can port when I'm not on an active plan. Optus will take 2-3 days to deliver and the optus guy says i have to wait for that sim to get bonus data. Any tips fellow ozbargainers?

    • Catchconnect has the same deal, slightly cheaper for new customers, but for yourself would solve your issue? https://catchconnect.com.au/

      • My concern was that I thought I needed to be in credit before I could port out. But you're right. That catch connect is a better deal, strange how it didn't show up when I was searching.

Not sure what these optus instant rewards are though. You're supposed to get 3 when you activate.

Looks to be just X off Y Spend discounts that are usually easily available from other sources anyway.

Doesn't seem worth it for the hassle IMO.

          • @Juzzy96: I did miss the hoyts discounts when I was last on optus though - not that going to the cinema would be a thing you'd want to do at this time lol. But I reccon it'd be easier to disinfect the leather seats on a Hoyts Recliner than it is for felt seats.

        • Can confirm, my wife was with Lebara and credit ran out before a new sim arrived (Catchconnect) and the port was fine. It's been a while since I had credit run out. I do remember though, you can still receive calls and sms with no credit just nothing out.

    • +2

You having no credit will not have an impact on the port. The only problem is Catch Connect run on the Optus network, so porting is a bit more annoying and lengthy sometimes (same network ports).

    • I'm all over it if it comes with free Internatinal call like Boost.

    • I ordered this last Wednesday, still yet to receive it and hasn't even been entered into the tracking website. I contacted them about it yesterday to find what the status with it is and after about 40 minutes of being transferred between 3 different people they eventually said I have to wait a couple more days until they will look into it.

Said it wasn't possible to buy a $2 sim and use that instead.

      • Omg. I rang up today because I couldn't see anything on the order tracking page after 24hrs. They told me there's a back order of SIM Starter kits and won't be available for delivery for until another week (15/7). I told them I wanted a refund and they processed it because they acknowledge the website says 2-3day delivery. Seemed pretty easy to cancel. Guess it's time to use my Kogan backup.

    • I have a 150$ optus sim that I am going to switch over to tonight.
TBH I prefer Optus over Catch, especially for the feature where you get your voicemail left as an audio attachment sms.

Have also heard of people having some sms delivery issues on catch that doesn't happen on Optus.

I am on catch at the moment, was previously using their 3mth $14.90 plan (with cashback) but they are no longer availabe ;/

      • i was on same, you can go to kogan 3 months for $15.

        • Vodafone reception where I live is terrible unfortunately.

      • Lol that's me too! But I also got a Kogan 90day for $14.95 saved up which I was thinking to use if in a pinch. Been hanging out for boost but looking on their current website, they're not even stocking the old cheap 6month plans anymore. Think they must have caught on. I got the shits with catch connect making you go online to check your balance and expiry because I keep forgetting my login details. No app or even mobile dial code.

        • also don't like that some providers like catch set you up for auto-recharge.
they system is a bit hit and miss, I always went back to double check that the auto recharge had been cancelled, as sometimes the tick was still there.

    • Ordered similar one from Catchconnect. cost me $117 after unidays 10% off and then 15% giftcard off via paypal

      This is a dupe

Is this mod going to close this deal?

      • Well, now that it's been merged, it doesn't appear as a new deal anymore. I had to go back 5 pages to find this post with optus as search term. So not sure if anyone is ever going to notice anymore. Is there a way to refresh the start date?

    • Nice

  • Activated mine today, instantly got the bonus data.

  • I couldn't find any comment on VoLTE… Does anyone know if this plan features VoLTE? Thanks

    • Spoke with Optus and they confined VoLTE is NOT applicable for this plan 😫

  • Purchased this on the 4th of July and still no Update on when i will receive it. I called them and they said "that they are having trouble getting the sim card available, its selling out fast". I don't believe them. I wish i didn't buy the sim card from Optus. I have no idea when i will get the sim card.

  • Here's my expereience purchasing the plan and porting over:

My Telstra Prepaid plan was about to expire so I went into the store last week, to confirm that this plan does indeed have 120GB data on it and I was encouraged to do it in store as the sim activation will be quicker. Today, I went in store, saying that I wanted that plan with 120 GB specifically, the optus prepaid epic value, and the team meber said ok, no worries. I paid for all 3 plans. Once ported over, I saw my account that I only got 60 GB and the team member, acknowledged it, didn't apologise for the mistake and just went to the back grabbed the data pack and just gave it to me, and just said "it's already activated", and i asked them how can I call someone using the data pack and she simply said "that will have to do. I have given this free to you. normally this would've costed 25 dollars.". I then showed her the website saying that it's 120 GB and the deal hasn't expired yet, and she was so confident and said to me "they listed it wrong and they need to update that.". She then told me that I actually needed to go online to purchase the plan to qualify for the 120GB. Not only I was provided the wrong information the whole time, but i was only notified by it till the payment and porting went through.

I contacted Optus later on and they confirmed that indeed, I have 120GB of data on this plan and the 60GB bonus data will just take 24 hours to reflect on the app.

  • Features this plan does not have

    • VoLTE
    • message to text
    • international calls

    Anything else ?

PS does anyone know of a cheap 365 plan on the optus network like the Aldi $15 365 days for an emergency 2nd phone?

  • Does anybody know when this Sim expires? For example, I bought the Boost but held it for a couple of months before activation.

    • i brought it and tried to activate it but the deal is gone

      • Damn, deal already expired >:(

Was planning to get it for new phone
