  • Was on Optus Prepaid Epic Value, but the coverage and performance was subpar. Struggled to use up all the data and ended up donating 40% of the data:

  • Pathetic online order delivery service and when you find out the wait could be forever and you cancel the order, their refund will take ages and lengthy phone calls and emails.

is this SIM deal available in stores? for quick purchase

  • First thing people are going to ask is whether this is as good as Boost.

Boost = telstra = better reception. Plus they have international calls included.

However, a selling point for Optus (for me personally anyway) is Optus Perks where you can get cheap movie tickets…

      Mostly yes.
I have dual SIM phone and last week did an Optus vs Boost test around where I live and Optus did/does better.
I was on this long expiry plan from last year (at $120 tho) and it expired so decided to try Boost in the hope of better signal and cheap long plan deal.

Where was my 'please stay' text message like this hey Optus?!

Nevertheless have swung over to Catch deal to keep me with Optus - AND - live in hope that new tower going up nearby will improve atrocious signal coverage.

All 3 major carriers suck in my area anyway.

      • Link to catch deal please?

        • Looks like no deals on at the moment. They come and go regularly, with most providers.
I actually only took a 3 month one for $15 which I figured was plenty long enough to bide my time for a new cheap Optus deal to show up - either the current online only $150 or via some other Optus 3rd party seller.

And if you're in QLD, optus had a near perfect year last year, with the only fault being a 24hr geoblocking issue.

Telstra lost service… 3? 4? Times? And one of those was more than a whole day.

Nobodys perfect, but dual sim phones are lookin pretty sweet these days.

      • Telstra lost service… 3? 4? Times? And one of those was more than a whole day.

Yeah this had me avoiding T til now.. How did V fare against O and T? what else is there

  • I got this offer, but confused by the wording. Do you need to spend $180 or $150?

    • $150. I got a sms. When you goto the recharge link it has it highlighted $150. This time it will be 120gb instead of 60gb

Works out $12.50 a month for 10gb which isn't bad. Data can used all at once though not just 10gb a month.

      • When you go to recharge it doesn't say 120GB though.. which is annoying. The SMS says it, but the recharge screen says $150 60GB and makes no mention of double data. It would be nice for it to be totally clear since Optus can be a pain to deal with ;)

So long as you go into the optus store, and have them call through for you, using their 'store code' as an authority, ive never had an issue.

Voda is also good like this.

          Havent tried in-store with telstra.

  • Be aware as their delivery service is screwed. I waited 1 week with no delivery updates. I'm still waiting for my refund to be credited back to PayPal. Had to raise a PayPal case to activate some action.

  • Step 1
Check the message we sent you to see how much you need to recharge, if the offer is limited to certain recharge methods, and when the offer ends.

Sounds like different people might get different offers.

  • Do deals like this happen often ? Have just signed up for this 120GB 365 day deal in January, hoping a deal will be out when the 365 days is up, the alternative looks like $30 a month recharges

    • I think they trying to match the Boost data increase offer.

    • Hard to say, there does 'appear' to be more Telco deals this year.

Last Jan this deal was $120 for 120GB. The original price was $150 but same 120GB. Before this "Deal" it was $180 for only 60GB, so rather a backward step by comparison.

Would have been nice to have gotten the above mentioned recharge offer before Saturday to save faffing around porting out to another carrier and then back into Optus before end of March to port back in as a 'new' customer for 'online' purchase deal. Unless of course that date changes, as has already occured.

      • Cheers all. Yes it does suck when the timing doesn't align!

  • do i still get the double data after i recharged this deal a few weeks ago ?

    • doubt it

  • I can see the offer in the my Optus app, it says it expires in 29 days for me. The $180 recharge for $150 / 60gb data

    • The double data is only for new customers

  • +1

I'm currently with boost , tried to find out if a recharge for another year will you get their 120 gig (80+ 40 bonus) offer they said no.
As existing customer no bonus available.
Switching now to Optus, $150 60+60gig(120G total).
I don't phone overseas, so don't need it.
Plus big Optus benefit will be data roaming packs at $20 /10 gig 14 days.
Boost tell you to buy a local SIM card and not use them overseas.
Good to see a telco (Optus)is offering the same good deal to current customers too not only new customers.

Funny, I was with Optus and just ran out of data on my old 120G/365 day plan, I tried to sign up to this plan with the bonus 60G data and they said no. So I've ported to the boost 120 gig (80+ 40 bonus) plan - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/519409

      • That's funny , I did tell the man at boost farewell and that I may join you again in another 12 months as a "new" customer if they have a decent deal on.

        • yeah they'd rather you pay a hunnid fiddy to another business, than keep your business and money, doesn't make sense

  • Despite my app having a 29 day countdown to expiry for this offer, it expired on 20/2 so we missed out. Porting my dad over to boost now

    • yeah my optus didnt expire for another 21 days so I didn't want to recharge yet.

      • -1

so This One pretty much like Renewing for existing customers?

    • Same online sign up deal expires on 29 March.

Port out for a few days then resign back to Optus online?

      • -1

What if I have Home broadband with them?

Will we still be 'new customer' for mobile?

  • My dad bought this today for me hopefully I don't have to wait to long for the delivery

    • +1

I ordered it 6 days ago and it still says it hasn't been shipped.

      • I got mine today ordered on Sunday

        • -1

presumably 'today' was Thursday if anybody wondering

          • @capslock janitor: I'd easy recommend the boost deal for the same price as the Optus network isn't as Fast

    • +1

      Not showing in my portal.

  • This isn't targeted. I'm not with Optus now and I can see the same offer on the Optus website.

    • 2 different things.
Website offer is for NEW customers only whereas this (targeted) txt msg deal was for existing Optus customers to be able to recharge at discounted price :)
Miserable sods never sent me this txt tho to extend and I was on last couple days! :(

  • Hi, what's the difference between this and this ?

    • this is for existing customers
      other is not

  • Has anyone been having issues with trying to activate/port their number from a different provider over to Optus under this deal?

  • Just got extended again, haven't activated yet, do you think I can activate after the activation date of the last deal? 5/4/2020
