Wow it looks really good for the price.

    • +3

It probably costs this much to ship a 22kg parcel alone.

  • Check the legality of using this in your State and council area.

In NSW, it is an offence (under the Clean Act 2010) to burn even clean timber in one of these in the following Council areas:

    Ashfield
    Auburn
    Bankstown City
    Blacktown City
    Botany Bay City
    Broken Hill City
    Burwood
    Campbelltown City
    Canada Bay
    Canterbury City
    City of Sydney
    Fairfield City
    Gosford City
    Holroyd City
    Hunter’s Hill
    Hurstville City
    Kogarah
    Ku-ring-gai
    Lane Cove
    Leichhardt
    Liverpool City
    Manly
    Marrickville
    Mosman
    Newcastle City
    North Sydney
    Parramatta City
    Pittwater
    Queanbeyan City
    Randwick City
    Rockdale City
    Ryde City
    Shellharbour City
    Strathfield
    Sutherland Shire
    Warringah
    Waverley
    Willoughby City
    Wollongong City
    Woollahra

…and in other Council areas, it is still an offence unless you have a permit to burn.

Yet Bunnings in those areas sell a heap of fire pits and bags of split wood?

No legal use for a fire pit then?

      • +2

Councils can get stuffed. Worst form of so called government.

      • +1

Bunnings sell lots of things. They all have to be used within the law. I didn't write the rules mate, and I am not the police, so knock yourself out.

I can buy a rifle from a gun shop but am I allowed to use it in my backyard? I can buy cigarettes from Woolies but am I allowed to light up inside the store?

In saying all that, if I get a call to a backyard fire at your house and we get there and you are burning wood in one of these just to have a bonfire, I am required by law to put it out. If you had a BBQ plate on it (and the fire wasn't ridiculously large) and it wasn't in a dangerous position, I would say "Enjoy your BBQ" and leave you be.

Could you provide a reference for this statement?

      • It's the clean air regulation (not act) and a good chunk of mentioned councils no longer exist.

However, most non-rural councils dont let you burn; semi-rural let you burn with a permit (eg hornsby/the hills) and rural/farming are allowed to burn on premise for a range of things without a permit.

        I'm talking pile/incinerator burns - not cooking/camping

        • Yeah you are correct, it used to be the Clean Air Act.

      (4) It is not an offence under this clause:
      (a) to cook or barbecue in the open, or to light, maintain or use a fire for recreational purposes such as camping, picnicking, scouting or other similar outdoor activities

Chuck a couple of marshmallows on a stick and put them in the fire, whack up your favourite tent (that you scored from OzB for a suitable discount) in your backyard, and your camping. Problem solved.

      Can you back this up?

Section 4 (a): to cook or barbecue in the open, or to light, maintain or use a fire for recreational purposes such as camping, picnicking, scouting or other similar outdoor activities, so long as only dry seasoned wood, liquid petroleum gas (LPG), natural gas or proprietary barbecue fuel (including a small quantity of fire starter) is used

Just say it's an open barbeque and cook food on it, using dry seasoned wood…. As long as you're not blowing smoke everywhere I highly doubt you'd get fined

Thanks mate. I get the feeling flyerone is being a little melodramatic with the warning above

  • Wait… Great for patios you say? Start a bonfire on your patio? That'll definitely keep you warm

No idea why - but purchased.

    • Unfortunately I am unable to Arise & Gain Dominance over my 'Sphere of Influence' as I already bought this (https://www.bunnings.com.au/jumbuck-55cm-rust-kellie-fire-pi…) for $49 the other day. $4 more, but personally I like the design better… :-)

      • Does it have a hole for drainage? There's not much in the way of pics 😕

        • Nah. It's like a big wok. Saying that, it's not heavy and just sits on top of a steel ring - so emptying just requires carrying it to the garden or wherever to toss the ashes when cool.

        You have good taste.

          Amazing taste

Just get the old drum out of a washing machine and you’re set. Or even an old brake drum.

    • Maybe get a few "locals" over for some warmth too.

      • +1

One local, and they would have to stand 1.5 meters away, shivering their ass off.

    • But it does not have the interesting laser cut patterns. Also this is much more portable.

What sort of bears do you have to use?

  • Manager does not know what hit them. The sale figure was poor and suddenly bam, all sold out :).

Got mine today, 5 seconds to setup, decent quality, very happy with it
