Would be great to know how much out-of-pocket for 3 years after the cash back?

    • +2

the Nord deal on right now is $3.49/month over 3 years = $125, with 90% cashback (if it stacks) is ~$12.50USD, which is about $21AUD for 3 years (possibly 4 if you get the lucky easter egg).

      • $7 AUD per year is really a good deal!

        • It is, but I'd double check to see if the deal actually stacks with the cashrewards deal

  • Very happy with Surfshark and cheaper than NordVPN. Just dunno how to make Netflix works with Surfshark.

You'll just have to keep trying till you get a IP Address which isn't blocked

      • It’s been quite simple through Surfshark so far. So happy with it!

      • Tried the troubleshooting guides. None of them working for me.

    • It works for me on nVidia shield and so does Disney plus. I didn't have to do anything special, just installed the app and connected to a US server.

    • I'm now having a problem with TENPlay and SurfShark - I tried all Australian servers with no luck.

      • I am with dns4me and cannot get tenplay or sbs on it atm :(

  • Interesting. The more webpage won't load

  • What is the difference between this and Getflix? My Getflix works for US Netflix but it doesn't seem to change my IP address. Would this be easy to set up as I couldn't follow the VPN setup for Getflix 😢

    • Does ur getflix work US netflix with smartDNS or their VPN?

      • SmartDNS, I couldn't figure out their VPN instructions

  • +1

so i have to pay the full amount of USD $138.20 (for 3 years) first and then wait until the 90% cashback comes through?

    • Yes.

      • How long it will take the cashback into my account. I tried last time, nothing happened.

        • My cashback was tracked in a couple of hours today and as per the cashrewards website it will be available in my account in 100 days.

My Nord doesn't work with US Netflix since Jan I contacted nord and no help at all they said they don't support it now but may do in the future so I asked for refund and won't do that ether as I have 2 years left they only refund within 30days.

    • so… us netflix ability is totally not functioning on any server? or just your account?

      • totally NOT working on any server, blocked

        • +1

It's been working fine for me, maybe check that you're not using custom DNS because that was a problem for me.

  • Would I still be considered a "new customer" if I used an email over a year ago to trial but never purchased?

And does this have the means to use a simple DNS change + device registration (like ExpressVPN Mediastreamer) so I can get it to work on Chromecast as well?

  • what speeds do you get with Nord?
im currently with purevpn and its gone from pretty good to probably capped at around 4-5mbps

    • 70-80% of your max connection speed in a good region (will obviously vary from region to region, server to server).

More than good enough for streaming for NBN, basically any connection over 10 mbit for 1080p streaming services.

  • Can anyone using this verify if it works with Amazon Prime Video? I just bought Surfshark with the Cashrewards deal, but no luck getting Amazon to work though…
    Netflix US works fine however.

    • whats the streaming speed like for US netflix with Surfshark?

      • Haven’t had any problems streaming in 1080p. It takes a few sounds longer to start up/load trailers in the menu but once you start a stream there’s no hitches.

  • Hmmm sounds great. Can anyone confirm if it's still working with US Netflix in general? If so I am down.

    • Sorry for asking a dumb question
Is the collections in US Netflix has so much more than the one in AU Netflix still?
Didn't access the US Netflix lately just watching AU in recent months

    • +2

Someone above mentioned that theirs wasn't connecting to US Netflix. However, I'm able to connect through and watch shows like The Office which isn't currently available in Australia.

      • Thank you for confirming :D

    • I just signed up and can confirm it works using the iOS apps(NordVPN US Server -> Login to netflix).

  • Statistic wise yes but it depends on what you want to watch - have a look below and see if you prefer US Netflix shows/movies

    https://www.finder.com.au/netflix-australia-vs-netflix-us-mo…

  • i am very new to VPN. i purchased surfshark yesterday. To access Netflix and other streaming sites from the US, do we need to also subscribe and pay for those memberships also or is there a way around it?

    • +3

I believe VPN is just allowing you to watch different countries' collections of Netflix (eg. US Netflix has more movies and TV series than Australia)
You will still need a subscription for Netflix in order to watch

(However, you can also use VPN to get a "cheaper Netflix subscription" than paying Australia subscription fee
do some search in OZB and you will find how to do so)

    • You need so be a subscriber or share a subsciption (which I do)… VPN allows you to access other countries Netflix etc… which are otherwise geolocked. I believe.

      • We pay $14 per month for two Aus accounts. It can be cheaper if you set up via an overseas account I believe.

        • Do the Argentina location change.. $8 for 4 accounts and in 4K.

You can cancel your subscription now, it will keep going until the paid month runs out. (your unsubsribed account will remain active for 10mths) Then sign up to 4k

          • @dsp26: I was with Turkey which is costing $10.2 / 4 accounts
Just lazy to change to Argentina to save the $2 / month
AUD rate fluctuates anyway so Turkish dollar may drop again some time :)

            • +1

@littlesoldier: Yeah I was with Turkey for a while, it was the cheapest.. something like AUD$6, but it wasn't because of fluctuation, they actually raised their prices almost 2yrs ago which is why its at the AUD$10ish mark now.. same with Argentina, but only went from ARS299 to ARS349 which makes it the cheapest in the last year.

Someone posted an OzBargain copy of this, years ago. I now keep my own copy and update the prices for only 5 or so countries now, but good for everyone to make a copy:
              https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1vId7Jpl8pBUJNE4ghcuq….

The savings from this alone allowed me to justify also getting Youtube Premium (India VPN) and Hulu all for the cost of a monthly Aussie Netflix sub lol.

          • @dsp26: Sorry noob question, Does everyone always need to use Vpn for it work?

            • +1

              @Bluey123: for subscription no.

For streaming, only if you want to access the catalogue for another country.

It's a no-brainer though, US/UK/Japan have 3x bigger catalogues than Aus. And the saving in itself (subbing Argentina) pays for the cost of the VPN, which in turn you can use for other VPN deals posted on OzBargain, ie Youtube Premium (sh*ts on Spotify), Hulu, Amazon Prime, NBA season pass, Youtube TV, etc… you will NEVER watch Aussie TV at again when you realise even USA has Hundreds of Free-to-Air channels

          • @dsp26: you cant do that with nordvpn now. Netflix on detecting nordvpn IP from Argentina or Turkey renders USA pricing.

    • +1

While you're at it, use your vpn to change your location to Argentina then subscribe to netflix.. am getting UltraHD subscription for ~AUD$8 at the moment

      • Didn't know about this one! THanks will try with Argentina. Never used that server before!!!!

        • Are you able to connect to Netflix Argentina on NORD ? if so which server ( number) for Argentina - could you advise pls. TIA

          • @Maxdax: you don't need a server location that is Netflix stream capable, only to change the location during subscription.. so any free VPN with Argentina/Turkey works for that part, then you can continue using Aus Netflix for half the price.

But honestly, Hulu is better especially since getting hbo or Disney add-on to it works out cheaper overall.. the only other additional pre-requisite is to do initial sign-up with an AMEX and use a 5-digit postcode, then I just top up the account with vouchers from target.com.

            • @dsp26: The reason I asked is that I’m not able to connect to Netflix turkey or Argentina on Nord - when I contacted Nord they said these locations are not supported for Netflix and they connect to Netflix US. So will have to look at some other VPN. Cheers

  • Is there way to compare Netflix catalogue between countries?
There are few sites which tells some titles avbl only in US.,
How about other Netflix countries like UK, India?

    • +3

      unogs.com

You can search by subtitles, language, audio etc.
Can also search up the title and it will show what country it is showing in.

      • Hyperlink didn't work/was blocked by OzB? Weird. Anyway, works with Google.

  • Nord is quite alright IME. Sometimes a little slow. I always use Singapore or HongKong server.

    • Is 2 years in with them and happy, app works well on all my Android included a very old tablet. I'm almost at the end and need to decide if stay with them or try a new one.

  • Anyone confirm this works well with Kodi sources?

Currently using PIA which finds more servers but content doesn't play.

  • How long does it take for the cashrewards cashback to become available?

    • Round 3 months - to be available for withdrawal

  • Got the Cashback confirmation email within an hour. Now the 95 day wait…

VPN seems to work well. Watching free HBO now.

    • Any chance you could give Amazon Prime Video a go and see if it works? Currently with Surfshark but it’s blocked.

      • Can you give me a show that US Prime has that AUS Prime doesn't?

        • Try the film Midsommar. Cheers mate.

          • @ozjer: Searched for film in AUS: found nothing.
            Switched on US VPN server.
            Searched again: found Midsommar.

But it pops up a warning saying "You are connecting through a VPN. Movie can't be played"

Sneaky by Amazon. It's possible you could rotate through the servers to get it working, but I had no luck.

            • @railspider: Ahh that’s a shame. Thanks for checking it out though. Looks like amazon are more on the ball than Netflix.

              • @ozjer: I was able to play Midsommar using the "USA - Los Angeles" Server via ExpressVPN.. which is odd as this doesn't normally work for Hulu/Netflix USA and my usual "New Jersey" doesnt work on Prime USA.

Screenshot of it working here: https://ibb.co/1McHw0S

This is one reason I got away from NordVPN… having 5000+ servers sounds cool, but for most users who want it for streaming its a pain in the arse to test through that many servers… no one needs that many different servers seriously, as long as you have at least one in many countries is where its at.. its a marketing gimmick.

This is why I pay the premium for ExpressVPN as my cheap Hulu/Netflix/Youtube rates already makes up for its price.

Does it matter if i leave the VAT as USA to save on 10%?

    • Doesn’t matter - save that 10%

  • Thanks OP, I signed up just for a year because im not sure if I will use it much or not. I got the confirmation from cash rewards within a couple of hours and I am also able to watch netflix US, but had to connect to a server in Atlanta to get it to work. Very good speeds, no complaints.
But the big question… are there any threads with the best things to use a VPN from Australia are?? shopping, streaming etc, any suggestions appreciated :)

  • Just purchased. Awaiting Cashback email, hopefully it was tracked.

    • It was tracked. 40mins.

  • Has anyone used this one to access UK channels (BBC, etc.,)?

I have PIA but no go.

  • +1

Seems to be only 30% Cashback now :(

    • +1

yep went to purchase but only 30%
