Sell it to the hospitals. The general public shouldn't need this in social isolation.. You already have access to soap and water which does the job of ridding germs fine. In a hospital, the sanitiser is needed due to needing to wash hands so often. I work in a hospital and they have been short on sanitiser. My hands have also been getting dry from all the soap too. It's also not viable to be using gloves all the time.. There are massive shortages on those too :-(

    • Anyone suggesting soap gets down voted here. It's really odd.

Anyone suggesting soap gets down voted here. It's really odd.

I assume it's because people are only (meant to be) using alcohol sanitizer when they're out and about, e.g. taking public transport to work, going to the supermarket and handling the baskets or trolleys, etc. You can't bring a sink and soap along with you everywhere. People who keep saying just use soap seem to be assuming people are using alcohol hand sanitizer right next to their sink.

        • +2

I've carried a small 50ml bottle everywhere I go and after 3 weeks there's still plenty left. You don't need to bathe your hands in this stuff.

          • +3

@Ryanek: Being a liquid, people might also be buying it to wipe down surfaces, grocery packaging, takeaway packs, their phone, their car door handles, etc. 5L wouldn't be too much for a family of 5.

    • +5

Not sure why I am getting negged.. It is the truth. Until you see it first hand in a hospital, you don't know the urgency. I just can't think of a reason why individuals would need 5L of sanitiser. I always keep a small bottle in my car to use after I pump petrol - I always have done that.. Even prior to COVID-19.
It's nice the business has looked at another option of selling their alcohol.. And I'm appreciative of this.. But it might be better for them to look at selling it commercially to hospitals rather than the public in 5L quantities

      • +1

Agreed….From everything I've read soap/water does a better job BUT in a hospital environment it's not always possible between areas… Hospitals need all the help they can get at the moment and anyone working in healthcare at this moment is doing the honorable thing… Don't be disheartened.. Ozbargain, whilst fantastic for many many things, there are some people that maybe don't understand how critical it is for the hospital system to be able to cope… I hope the 20L supplies are going to a good cause from this distillery..

      • Yep, check out this experiment on soap vs sanitiser

For home use, soap is best.

      • I just can't think of a reason why individuals would need 5L of sanitiser

If you know where people can easily buy any smaller size then, by all means, post it.

Until you see it first hand in a hospital, you don't know the urgency

Less people getting sick outside of hospitals equals less in hospital

I work constantly outside still with people. Soap isn't viable as I'm not always near a tap and we can't find any hand sanitizer. Atleast hospitals have the money and resources to source it, because average joe doesnt

  • Cool -1 available of the 5ltr.

  • I’d like to buy however sold out? OP pls PM me

  • +6

4 per customer is disappointing - as sold out before everyone gets to order.
OP please consider limiting to 1 per customer in future

  • yeah but moot point right now…

  • -3

Seems to be back in stock, Paypal email received

    • +1

Litreally says - Out of stock at the bottom of the page..

      • Glad I used Paypal then

  • -3

Why get downvoted for saying back in stock? Mongrels

    • +1

      Because its not..

      • Well it was 6 minutes ago

  • Hi OP,

My friend works at an Aboriginal Medical Service as a doctor in the Kimberley. They havn't been able to get any hand sanitiser and are completely out .Is there anyway we can organise a bulk order?

    Cheers

    • OP has nothing to do with the seller. You're friend would be better off emailing the company directly.

    • +1

I don't think OP is actually associated with Manly Spirits?

      • +3

It's an interesting first post for someone who only joined yesterday…

    • +1

Sorry Coatesy I have no association to this company

    • Hi Coatesy,

WestChem in WA should be able to help you out there - they will prioritize medical supplies.
      https://www.westchem.com.au/

If you get stuck even with them, let me know - I might be able to secure a small amount of their product for you.

      • Hi Uradox,

Cheers mate, i really appreciate it. I know they've been panicking up there a fair bit. I'll let you know how i go.

    • +1

Moonshine melbourne is selling sanitiser for around $12 per liter plus delivery for HCWs. Try emailing them. My order just came yesterday.

      • Cheers mate

  • Website doesn't list the ingredients, other than "80% ABV." ?
    Unless I'm being blind?

  • Who remembers this deal? :D

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/387741

Fetching quite the premium on eBay now, $250/bottle

OPs prices are quite fair in comparison given the current climate.

    • -4

I bought a set from that deal and only used like 100mL before selling the 2 unopened bottles last month. Probably the best investment I've ever (and gotta) made in my life.

  • +2

The 100ml x 10 pack actually has a limit of 1 per customer whereas this one has a limit of 4, doesn't make sense. smh

    • Pretty much they sold out their 400 bottles by the 100th customer…

    • +1

The website administration may of made a quantity limit mistake by allowing up to 4 x 5 litre sanitisers per person?

We will all have to wait and see if we receive our confirmation emails in the next 24 hours to confirm if all of our orders have been fulfilled.

For anyone that has purchased excess, can you please pass this on at cost price or as a gift.

      No pandemic profiteering!

We are all in this pandemic together so let's look out for eachother.

      Stay safe.

      • They have a very shortsighted marketing plan.

Maybe if they didn't sell them at 20L and 5L bottles but follow other manufacturer 50mL, 200mL designations and price them accordingly they can cover a larger proportion of the market.

Sell to more unique customers, more customers on their database. Once the customers run out of their smaller bottles they reorder, Makes sense no?

But instead, the 100 people who ordered will probably never order again as they have a lifetime supply.

        • The market will saturate soon. Better to sell you 5l now then 209m then it's everywhere next month.

Who are those 4000 arseholes who don't comment or post anything yet click and buy things like these asap.

Hi guys, don't forget you can also make your own. WHO formulation: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK144054/

    Basically you need 4 ingredients:
    - ethanol/isopropanol (note the original concentration)
    - hydrogen peroxide (or sodium percarbonate and prepare to correct volume and concentration)
    - glycerol
    - water

you can substitute the glycerol with aloe vera gel or similar for to thicken up the liquid.

    • +5

      Basically you need 4 ingredients:
      - ethanol/isopropanol (note the original concentration)

      …and there's the problem! ;)

      • yeah but it's cheaper which is my point. given that this is also sold out, it'd probably take a week or two for ethanol and the hand sanitiser to be restocked.

you could also substitute ethanol with methylated spirits - these days there should be no methanol in there but another denaturing agent like bitrex, MEK or even isopropanol. but read the ingredients list/MSDS before purchasing.

        • yeah but it's cheaper which is my point.

It was, but is it still cheaper now at places that have it in stock?

    • +3

Great…if only alcohol and peroxide weren't sold out everywhere…

    • +1

I tried using aloe gel with isopropyl, but it just clumps together in a white gum at the bottom of the container. Some say you need to dilute the gel with equal parts water first, though I haven't had another go at it yet.

    • The glycerol (glycerine) is an emollient (some people substitute aloe vera instead). It won’t thicken it up like gel. Some have had success using carbomer to do that.

  • Too late

5L will last most households over a year. those hoarding are the reason hospitals and healthcare workers don't have enough

    • +1

      more like decade

    • More like forever

  • Bought some just over a week ago, arrived monday in Radelaide. Liquid and works a treat. Recommend their citrus Gin also.

    • Yeah… Right.
Account created 24 mins ago haha

Distillery is just a few blocks from my house. Went into their storefront and inquired about the hand sanitiser and was able to buy a bottle. I'm guessing delivery for this item won't be cheap considering the weight.

    • Delivery was $15 to metro Adelaide. Not so bad, that's if I get my order

  • Boom. out of stock.

Wonder how many of these are being packed up with baby formula to goto China

  • Still out of stock, but they've updated the product page to limit it to one per person.

  • I have been trying to get hands on 1 small bottle of handsanitizer and whereever you go its sold out, i'd prefer toorder online but its sold out everywhere. Its frustrating. can anyone please share a link of website where they do have 1x in stock to order

  • -1

yeah but i'm looking for a hand pump bottle or squeezy

    • You could always buy a pump bottle and re-fill it with this?

      • well yes, but this is liquid, not gel unlike what you would normally get in a pump or squeezy

  • I just received my order confirmation so everything is looking promising. A reminder that orders won't be dispatched until the 14th of April.

  • +1

Looks like the changed the limit to 1 per customer! What it should have been in the first place…

  • Got my order confirmation email as well

  • Their dry gin is terrific, I’ve been a fan for a year or so. This gives me an excuse to buy more.

  • Manly Spirits Hand Sanitiser: Alcohol Rub. 80% ABV.

    Is that methyl alcohol?
    Is that ethyl alcohol?
    Is that isopropyl alcohol?

    Wich one is?

      • Thank you for the link.
But the best info I get from that is:

        . Proper shipping name
. FLAMMABLE LIQUID, N.O.S. (contains ethanol)

        "Contains" ethanol.
A bit vague for a chemical definition.

Like peanut butter labeled: "may contain peanuts". Which type of peanuts???

        • +1

The relevant info is listed on page 2, section 3:

SECTION 3 COMPOSITION / INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS

          . Mixtures

          . %[weight] Name
          . >60……..ethanol
          . 1-20…….glycerol
          . <1……….tertiary butanol
          . <1……….hydrogen peroxide

Dropped in today as distillery is local. Couldn’t get a 5L but was told orders should be available again mid next week due to being Ozbargained but they are glad for the business. This is a great local distillery and they have pivoted well to keep employees working without price gouging. Purchased a $60 coffee liqueur (slipping over ice now) and was given a free 100ml gin aroma bottle of sanitiser. We joked that it was $60 for the sanitiser with a bottle of liqueur free! Keep an eye out around Wednesday for a restock.

  • -1

I've got two of these I'm no longer needed - if anyone wants to buy. I'm Melbourne CBD/Point Cook based.

  • I went and bought a 5l bottle today. Good stuff. I notice the hand sanitizer is more watery rather than the gel type that is found in the supermarkets - does that matter? I had planned to just go and put it in some smaller bottles with the soap pump type mechanism, but will that work or does it need more of a spray type container?

    • It's quite watery. I put in a spray bottle. In another bottle I experimented with mixing it with hand lotion lol
I wonder if we can turn this in to a gel.

  • Seems to be back in stock now.

  • Is this suitable for surface cleaning ?

EDIT: according to the FAQs yes it can be used as a surface cleaning.

  • Remember when they were $15 on eBay? 🤣🤣

  • May be a silly question. But do these have an expiry date as such?

    • Usually about 3 years. It loses strength as the alcohol evaporates.

      • Thanks

      • For the neg voter, here is the source of that information.

      • +1

It really depends on how good the seal on the container is. If it's airtight, the alcohol won't evaporate.

I have a bottle of pure alcohol that I bought over 10 years ago which is still pretty much full. Barely any has evaporated, if at all.

  • 5L hand sanitiser back in stock! Be quick before it’s sold about again.
