worth the 3 bucks more to not buy Catch crap

    • +1

I caved in because they gave me $15 voucher…

      • +10

Good. Some people forgot the oz bargain spirit. If you save 50 cents you go for it

    • Catch Crap automatic set me up for their crap membership and started charging me monthly fuel. After a few times sending enquiry they finally refunded the money into my account.

BTW, the last and only time I shopped with them was a game back in 2012.

"get it by Tues Apr 28 if you choose faster delivery"

    • +4

I think Amazon are currently making their delivery estimates later than expected to cover themselves with the high demand at the moment. Purely anecdotal, but I made a Prime delivery order the other week which expected a similar 10 days to arrive, but it arrived in the usual 2 days.

      • Same here. 2 deliveries estimated at 20 and 21 Apr. Received on 15 and 16 Apr respectively.

        • Yep, I ordered something thursday night, was shipped yesterday, about the same speed to ship as usual. Delays are definitely on Ausposts end.

      • Postage to everywhere lately has been so slow, bought a game from JBhifi via post 3 weeks and took 8 days to arrive (from melbourne to adelaide via express Toll).
Also shipped a birthday present overseas that same day via aus post and it still hasnt left the Melbourne despite being on the list of countries not effected by Corona.

      • Yeah that's been my experience too. I got a delivery last night at around 8:30pm. Normally all my stuff gets delivered by Aus Post but the one last night was some random guy in a sedan.

        • It was probably a contractor to help alleviate some of the delivery stress on the postage system. So many people are doing online due to instore not being an option at the moment.

      • Agreed… I ordered something with Prime international delivery which was meant to arrive in 3 weeks actually arrived in a week…

      • I have an EB order for the Switch that was due to be shipped yesterday. Payment is meant to be taken from my account 1-4 days prior to shipping date but that hasn't happened yet.
I got a restocked email from Amazon in the afternoon so I bit the bullet and ordered the Switch from there too.
Tried to call EB to cancel but they're understandably getting smashed with calls so I gave up after over an hour on hold.
So it looks like it will be a race between EB and Amazon.
I selected priority delivery for $9 so hopefully it will arrive by the end of the week.

My items are taking 4-8 business days (all Prime products within Australia), which has actually deterred me from buying from them during this covid period. JB have it at the same price but release date is late April.

Be careful. This game will consume your life. But it's a nice distraction from everything that's happening.

    • So true… šŸ¤£

      • seriously..

      What life?

This is ozbargain not chinabargain. It was blocked for political reasons due to the Chinese government being its usual, fragile self.

  • Is this any good for two players?

    • +9

I personally don't think it is, because the idea of the game is to have your own island and develop it the way you want it. You can only ever have one island per console. I think it only works if everyone has their own console and island and you can visit each other. There's a bit more info here - https://www.ign.com/wikis/animal-crossing-new-horizons/How_tā€¦

    • +1

It's not good for multiplayer. Easier to point your screen at someone else to show off your island than having them join you.

    • The Mrs and I have shared creative freedom over our island, Caronoumea and it's working great. Only one pair of hands at a time tho

    • +1

Absolutely, my wife and I are having a blast on the one switch (taking it in turns) sharing resources and working together to invite new characters and develop the island…

      However!!!

It's very important to know that the first person to start the game is known as the island representative, and the island rep is the person who pushes the story and activities along. My wife plays waay more than me, but she's locked out of doing so many things until she logs in as me and 'triggers' those events. At first people said it was only the events in the first week, but it extends way beyond that. There is no way to change the island representative unless you delete all saves, so make sure the first person to play is the one who will play more often.

    • Two players with two switches, definitely yes.

For two players on one switch, not so much, more of a novelty, one will be playing the other one will just be "tagging along".

why not just digital download, 2 game voucher is $135 = $67.5 and no waits, no switching cartridges etc

    • +12

If you already have/want Nintendo online membership then yes.

You can sell your cartridges later though, which you can't do with digital

    • +1

Thanks for this, I just cancelled the order and decided to buy the voucher instead.

    • +8

Physical is always cheaper as you can sell it when you are bored of it.

    • +6

Yup. I'm all digital. Maximising time spent sitting on my ass. The wonders of modern technology.

      • +1

Iā€™m all digital, except animal crossing weirdly… hasnā€™t got me hooked yet.

        • +1

yeh im looking at it, trying to see the value in it.

it seems to be alot of farming things.
then buying attractions? so like theme park builder?

          • +1

@Kossac: Iā€™ve got the pole so I can jump across stuff, but I canā€™t see what will fully ā€˜hookā€™ me

    • -1

Im all for digital, but the two issues with Nintendo games for me are:
Games don't get assigned to you personally(e.g. gamertag) and if your console bricks unexpectedly, you lose your game.
Nintendo games have a crazy resell/swap value.

      • +3

Pretty sure it gets assigned to your Nintendo account?

      • +4

Games are tied to your account, not to the console. If the console dies, you can still play them on another one.

    • Got a link to this two game digital thing?

You need a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership, which is…

        • $5.95 for 1-month
        • $29.95 for 1-year or
        • $6.87 for 1-year if you can split the $54.95 Family membership with 7 others (8 total).
        • +1

Thanks! Wish I knew about this last week when I bought Mario maker 2. I would have picked up luigi's mansion as well. Now I have no other game I want to get with Luigi's mansion :/

  • Nice

  • Thanks, got one.

  • Just be aware that they've started shipping domestic Prime orders with Fastway/Aramex… I've had two parcels go missing because they were 'unable to deliver' despite the fact AusPost and FedEx both delivered that same week without issue…

    • +1

Just be aware that they've started shipping domestic Prime orders with Fastway/Aramex

They've done this for a few years in my experience (Sydney). I avoid that at all costs and just use AusPost Parcel collect. That way they have to use AusPost.

      • +1

Huh! Nice idea. I've never had a domestic parcel shipped via Fastway; only orders from the US. I'll keep that in mind, cheers!

    • True! I order something on Amazon last year. It was the worse online shopping experience in my life.
I received an email 3 days after I placed the order: ā€œYour Amazon package will be delivered today.ā€ Then I stayed at home expecting my parcel, but nothing was delivered.
Two days later, I checked my order status, it showed: ā€œPackage was delivered to your pickup location and is available for collectionā€. I couldnā€™t find any information about this mysteries ā€œpickup locationā€, so I have to email Amazon customer service. The ā€œpickup locationā€ turned out to be a nearby store which was 200m away.
I went to the store, but the owner of the store required an ID. Fineā€¦I went home and brought my passport. However, after showing my passport, I still couldnā€™t get my parcel. The guy took out an iPad, and he was trying to record my name and passport number on an app Iā€™ve never seen before.
It raised my concern of identity and information safety, because I donā€™t understand why a shipping company would record all detailed personal information as banks, just for collecting a parcel worth less than $50?
I just asked the guy to return my parcel and emailed Amazon to ask for a refund. Finally, I go the refund 10 days after I placed my order. In addition, I could still receive emails one month later: ā€œSorry we missed you. We tried, but we weren't able to deliver your package today. Please contact us to arrange the pickup.ā€
      Seriously?

    game of the year

    • +1

I never thought an Animal crossing game would ever get this kind of reception. But given the situation the entire world is in right now. I think its a safe prediction this will be the game of the year simply because the game is a perfect snapshot of a world we all want to live in.

  • +1

should i buy this game now but i can't even get my hands on the switch yet

    • +1

      Consider the Switch lite?

      • i have considered but i want to be able to play it with my gaming monitor as well

        • Buy a Switch Lite now and then upgrade to the pro when it releases next year :)
