$40.18 After 25% Shopback Cashback

Delivery info: Pickup FREE, Free delivery for orders over $100, otherwise add delivery costs.

Dan Murphy's current price for this is $60.99. For those looking at this alternative Dan's should price-match the original $52 but you won't get the full 25% cashback.

(Mod note: Prices in title should not include post-cashback pricing, refer to Title guidelines. Prices must indicate the amount payable upon checkout, including postage costs if applicable)

Reply to Mod: My revision specifically didn't include post-cashback pricing, it alerted deal chasers to the discount available AND the limited timeframe. This is no different to deals which simply advertise increased cashback offers. Your editing actually does a significant disservice to deal hunters imo.

    Yum love this stuff

    • -2

Agreed, one of my favourite Rums.

I also like Baron Samedi which has quite a unique taste and can often be found around $40 - $45.
I was unsure about the first taste - but about 10 bottles later I'm still a fan.

      • Yeah Baron is amazing too đź‘Ś

    • +10

      ok?
But this is OZBARGAIN, not FlyToMexicoBargain..

Regular day to day price in Mexican Pesos for 750ml

        rip of here

        • +3

Don't think you get the point…can it be bought for cheaper in Australia or delivered to Australia? Housing is cheaper in Thailand but it doesn't help me have a roof over my head here in Australia.

        • -1

OK consider the premium as a donation to our health system for treating alcohol related diseases - that's where the alcohol excise is spent

  • -4

wow… been brewing spirits for a few years now.. had no idea bottles sold for $40 when on special!

    • and kraken is amazing for its pricepoint

    • +5

      been brewing spirits

      That's not a thing …

      • Distilling?

      • +1

sorry, I have been brewing washes, which I have since been distilling.

even my more expensive brews (sorry, distills?), which are rums (molasses gets expensive), I am used to paying less then $10/L, including power, water and material.

        • +2

How much is excise duty per L?

          • +1

            @meatball: excise is $24 for 700mL and $34 for 1L of 40% spirit

gst on the whole price as well

          • +1

@meatball: Do you have to pay it if you distill say a couple liters of spirit per month for your own consumption?

            • +2

@Michael1983: You do technically needa licence to distill above 5L and even that 5L I think is not meant for alcholic consumption. Many distillers with legit businesses didn't get their license until they were ready to sell and used a 5L or smaller still. Once you register you have to pay excise and thus why many don't get a bigger still and register until they are going into commercial production.

            • @Michael1983: https://www.ato.gov.au/Business/Excise-and-excise-equivalent…

It’s pretty black and white on the ATO website. You can claim a 60% rebate though. I used to keep everything above board, while stilling at home so I could safely hand out alcohol to friends and family.

  • Haven't had anything besides captain moggy and coke. How does this compare?

    • +13

      Way better

      • +2

Well depends on what you like. Captain Morgan Black Spiced (not the standard spiced or jamacan) is better in my books.

        • Love this mix. Good price.

        • Had this recently and I enjoyed it but Kraken is nicer.

  • This is about the same price as 1L of sailor Jerry, how does it compare quality-wise?

    • Very different. This is dark and molasses-ie where are sailor Jerry is your classic lighter rum. Love both.

      • Thanks, which would go better with dry and lime?

        • +1

I prefer the more robust flavour of Kraken, but that being said I don't do rum and dry. I do rum and ginger beer.

          • +2

            @Schmiddler: Agreed there,

Kraken and bunderburg gingerbeer is one of my favourite for mixing.

    Kraken Spiced Rum

    Good drink when you wake…

  • Never actually had spiced rum. Interested. I wanna ask what it tastes like, but I guess that’s a stupid question!
What would you mix this with?

    • +3

I love this with Vanilla Pepsi Max! Increases that spiced flavour, really tasty.

But also goes great with normal Coke/Pepsi Max.

I really love mixing drinks with homebrand coke/coke zero because the taste isn't as overpowering as normal Coke and you can get more of the flavour of the spirit with it.

      • I didn't know of a vanilla cola with 0 sugar, thanks!

    • +7

Bundaberg ginger beer and a quick squeeze of lime.

      • Dark n Stormy!

        • +1

Technically a true Dark and Stormy must only be made with Gosling’s Black Seal rum.

    • +1
    • +1

Best way i would describe it is as a bourbon with hint of Caribbean spice and a bit of creamy/vanilla nuances depending on the brand
Not chinese chilli spice, but a fragrant spice

I find the alcohol hit isnt as hard as bourbon

    • +2

Coke usually for me. Dry ginger ale also popular. My Favourite drink. Give it a go!

    • +1

Soda and lime on the rocks for a refreshing summer drink. Ginger beer for winter

    • +1

WE buy it to add to pina colada's

    • +3

if you want to try it .. this is it
Doesnt get much better than this Rum at this price point.

I drink it straight, maybe with a bit of ice or small lemon slice

      p.s.
Good rum is wasted with cola.

    • +1

I usually have it with juice.

  • +1

My brain saw "Kessel Spice Run" first …

  • +1

    Isn’t this $42 Costco

    • So it's more expensive? $40.18 in this deal with SB.

    • Not all states can buy alcohol in Costco..

And not everyone lives in a capital city!

  • +2

Still waiting on that cashback to show up in my account from last time 03/03. Should be in my account on the 18/05 which is more than a three month waiting period and I am highly sceptical that I would ever get it since it has nearly always been declined for anything that should've been over $20 in cashback.
Speaking of the rum, atm my favourite rums are CM and Bundaberg spiced.

  • 2 hours delivered - that is impressive!

    • The CB deal hasn't even started yet?

      • Yeah I know that's the estimate on the website

      • as I said it is from last time. Purchased on 03/03 should get $116 cash back, estimated 18th of May and I doubt it…

    • 45 mins for me. Amazing service, very happy.

  • Shopback offer is for only one or can you get multiple? I want 2.

    • So far the only clear restriction is max $30 cashback. Wait for the deal and look at the published T&Cs - ask ShopBack to confirm if you're concerned. I'll be asking savemore's question because I want to c&c.

  • Can anyone clarify if 25% Shopback offer is only valid if you purchase using Delivery on Demand (i.e. need to order a min. $100 to get free delivery) or can you do a click and collect and still qualify for the 25% off?

    • Asked their chat and was told that as there are no conditions on c&c it is eligible for the advertised cashback.

  • If anyone does miss out, available for $50.99 here https://www.ourcellar.com.au/kraken-black-spiced-rum-700ml/ or at VintageCellars for $61.99 + CashRewards 2.45% off https://www.vintagecellars.com.au/spirits/the-kraken-spiced-…

  • Can I Place this in my cart ready to buy at 4pm it need to add at 4pm for shopback?

    • +3

Big risk, according to OP of cashback deal:

Per T&C, last click through must be via ShopBack. If you load your cart beforehand, the cashback may track at the earlier rate.

      • Thanks! Somehow I missed that reading the T&C in shopback app

  • +1

Got a few of these at around $8 AUD per 750 ml over in Mexico… wish I had of bought more home!

  • Hmmms… shopback hasn't updated

    • Yeah. Still not updated. I wanna place this order now before stock runs out…

      • Close tab and clear your cache perhaps? That's what I had to do when reloading didn't work.

  • shopback has updated but bws site is very slow

    • I just checked out a couple of bottles. When the shopback changed from 2% to 25%, the BWS site got really slow, think it was getting ozbargained :)

      • Getting my two bottles now :)

        all ordered

Kraken and Roku will be at my door by 630. This covid has its up sides to it.
Ordered at 415 delivered by 450. Unbelievable!

  • My first Kraken in under 60 minutes. Hopefully as good as widely reported. Thanks.

  • +2

Delivered in 5 minutes from order!!

  • Captain Morgan? Check
    Sailor Jerry? Check
Kraken? Bought two, so double check! Thanks for the lead!

  • Anyone who hasn't got the tracking email? Getting worried now

    • Not tracked yet. SB says tracked in 1 day.

  • Mine hasn't tracked, CR is normally instant but SB has issues sometimes.

  • +1

It's cheaper per/L to get a 1L bottle from Liqorland.

This is $74.23/L vs $72 for the 1L bottle at Liquorland.

    LL also has 25% cashback.

    • +1

Yep WAS marginally cheaper at LL if you trust them.
Rough calcs $55.60 V $57.40 per litre after cashback.

  • Guy at Kingston store said he’d been super busy all arvo with online orders. When I said from 4pm onwards? His jaw dropped. Yeh, orders came through thick and fast from bang on 4pm!

    • Seems they're the last to know about online deals.

      • he had no idea. I explained to him what was going on, and i think he was just upset he was having a busy arvo!

  • +1

Got the email from shopback and received 0$

    • Yes same as me =/

    • +1

Gday Fred and others. Some steps you might consider:

      (1) If you have evidence of the clickthrough and proof of purchase then you should ask SB to investigate and have BWS make good on the deal.

      (2) If you get no satisfaction there your next step is to complain to BWS directly, pointing out the advertisement and their lack of delivery on the offer - ie you give them a chance to fulfill their obligations under consumer law. Ideally you should mention this obligation when you complain to them.

      (3) If you get fobbed off there then return the item for a refund and/or fill out a complaint on both your state consumers affairs and the ACCC websites. They will record the complaint and if they get enough similar complaints will ask the seller to explain and/or rectify (they can't rectify if you've already returned the item for a refund obviously).

As we all know these are classic marketing inducements to get consumers to buy on the promise of a later discount. Sellers can't simply wave away their responsibility to make good on that promise after they have your money. Under consumer law sellers are required to fulfill all offers - within reason.

In short - know your consumer rights and 'demand' that BWS and ShopBack fulfill their obligations under ACL.

    • LOL should have gone with Cash rewards liquorland deal. SB always stuff up

Had my first drop of Kraken. Had it neat the first time and with apple juice the second time. Trying hard to like it :-(
BTW, had to chase it down with beer.

    • -1

      Because its awful.

    • Maybe I am not doing it right. Will try mixing it with others say pepsi, coke etc.

    • -1

Like many foods and beverages it's not to everyone's taste. Personally I think some of the bitter and so-called fruit craft beers would be better left for car batteries, limoncello is a poor substitute for castor oil, etc etc

  • +1

I ordered my Kraken, along with 4 sixpacks of beer to get over the $100 free-delivery limit. Then I get a call from BWS saying someone had misread the order and only packed one of the sixpacks of beer, so they'd refund me for the remainder. An hour later all the beer is delivered AND the refund arrived in my account today.

    • +1

      Thats called a double winner!

ive had heaps of mini wins due to the poor BWS site, love it

  • Anyone apart from the above people get a tracked confirmation email? Supposed to be 24 hours, it's coming on for 2 days and I've got nothing. SB rep acknowledged problems with payment calcs but didn't say anything about tracking problems.

    • +1

Yes. Tracked within a day. Amount is right too.

    • +1

      no tracking for me yet
