    There's always a reason

    • Was trying to match formatting of previous deals. It was always, "for mothers day" or "for fathers day" this one: Maaaates Rates.. Whatever. I got my discount and was happy. My dinged up old plates didn't sit well on the new car… 1st world probs

    THOT1 is available.

    • +6

Back in the late 90s, early 00s there were some great plates (teenager, small things amuse small minds) going around Sydney. I might have the letter/number wrong, but there was:

      5LUTB8 (WRX)

PIG B8 (pretty sure that was a WRX too)

      BKDFKP (Integra)

      ORG33Y (pink RX7)

Something like THOT1 might get through, but someone will report it for being offensive when they see it on the road.

      • +3

There was YAP00F on a Swift.

      • +1

Funny if you google BKDFKP it comes up… although that's far more subtle than the rest I suppose.

      • +4

Fave 90s plate was a bloke called Nick had; 4NICK8, yep WRX, we're a special mob of clowns

        • +1

My Fav was KYP.LFT and REX.UAL (on a WRX)

    • What does THOT1 mean? Throatie?

      Asking for a friend.

  • Holy shit, there are so many different styles available. It's a bloody circus!

My plates have the dealers name on it and I've been wanting to change it for months. Maybe I'll just get a restyle.

    • +6

You sure that's not just a cover for the plate?

      • mind blown! Styles and covers!

      • Definitely not. :(

  • +8

    COV1D9 available…

    • -4

I just read it as COVID19

      • Passed a Lexus on the motorway with COV16D. I’m sure it was a legit personalised plate purchased pre-pandemic…

        • If that's in NSW it's a standard number plate.

  • +18

Shame they still have that stupid yearly subscription based bullshit payment, but 20% off is good if you just want a restyle on a standard plate.

    • +14

Yup. I'd pay ~$350 if I could change my plate as a one-off payment. The thing I want doesn't break any conventions either - I could theoretically buy a new car tomorrow and be randomly assigned the plate I want for free. But no, they want a yearly subscription, so they get nothing instead.

      • The benefit is that if youre waiting for a certain plate configuration to become free, you have more chance than say if it was a once off fee.

  • Rona20 lol

  • Does anyone know the expiration date of the promotion?

I’m buying a new car in around 3 months and the plate storage fee will probably negate the discount.

    • +1

      17 May, as per OP

    • +2

Just wait for the Fathers Day deal

      • +1

From past deals they might have one at EOFY as well ….

  • +12

Is there a similar service for restyling my VIN number?

    • +47

      Meanwhile, somewhere in Bankstown…..

    • Pay n Spray are always a good bet.

    • +1

      *VIN, like PIN and ATM

Like using your personal identification number number at an automated teller machine machine to grab some cash to pay for a new vehicle identification number number.

    • I restyled my engine number, SuperCheap sell the engine stamps.

  • COV19D is already in use by a Kluger. Would have been a cheap novelty.

  • +4

Good to see the RMS supporting weed. Looking forward to the F69MATE sale next Feb.

  • Wish vic did cool things like this.

    • +14

your cool thing is not having to pay every year for custom plates

    • +4

You mean rort you for owning a car?

  • +1

Officer, "can you describe the car that hit and run"
Driver, "no, but the car has a stiletto number plate"
Officer, "yep, I know the car"

  • +1

Makes me wonder why there is no independent online retailer that does this (obviously for restyling only). $300 for 2 pieces of painted, embossed metal are a bit steep… or is the business not legal?

    • +1

      Not legal.

    • +2

      Not legal.

Price is definitely a rort though

  • +3

    Is "LWYRUP" available?

  • +2

Ozbargain: Where a discount off a rip-off price becomes a bargain.

    • eBay deals are always popular…

bEiNg iN sToCk MaKeZ iT a DeAL!!!1!1!!1!

  • +1

I did not realize how expensive they were for annual fees.
Jesus. Grew up thinking they were like $150 a year.

  • +1

20% would cover non essential travel, bargain?

  • +2

I love the idea. But I can't bring myself to waste money on this shit.

  • COVD19 and C0R0N4 are available.

    • -1

As been mentioned several times before

  • +1

My understanding is that My plates are a private company that has a deal with RMS? or is it owned by the government?

Either way, the prices are stupid and cannot be justified… In the NT you can buy plates for like $180 one-off which is reasonable for admin and printing fee's.

    • The RMS is a money making entity for the state anyway.

  • +2

Boo cant be used to remake existing personal plates (mine are 15 years old)

  • Anyone know if there are any work arounds to avoid paying the annual fee?

    My thought is

A mate owns the car -> gets the plates you want -> sells the car to you -> Boom no annual fee since the ‘custom plates’ aren’t really custom to you.

    Granted it’s a bit of effort…

    • No. Doesn’t work.

If you buy a car that personalised plates on it that the yearly fee is payable on, that yearly fee transfers to you once you buy that vehicle and/or those plates.

    • What pegaxs said.
You will end up paying the pro-rata fee to be able to keep the plates.

      • +1

not sure, keen to know as I have plates about 15 years old that I only paid a once off fee and don't pay annual fee, however if I got the same styled plates now they would attract an annual fee. If I transfer those plates to another car would I need to start paying the annual fee?

      • Ahh thought it could work around for the ones with mixed lettering / numbering. Cheerio

  • A couple of years back I saw a car parked in Redfern with the plate "CLUNGE"

    How I giggled.

  • 000GGG

    OZBRGN still available

    • waiting for a bigger discount before buying

  • Many years ago and I mean many years ago I bloke that owned a large used car yard drove a Roller with IM469 plates.

  • +1

I remember seeing some sort of performance vehicle (not a Ferrari) years ago with the plate "I8A4RE" - thought that was quite clever!

    • +1

That number plate was on one of the character's (Steve) car which was a corvette in the original Beverly Hills 90210.
