I've been looking for solar chargers for quite a while now and this is $109.99 normally. It says this is the newer model compared to the 21W model. Currently discounted and has lots of positive reviews. In any case we get a power outage this will be useful to charge a phone, powerbank, and I'll try using it on rechargeable batteries as well for the emergency lights.

  • I have an older model. Does this have the fault/feature here if the phone tries to suck more amps out then it can supply, it drops the connection. I.e. my pixel 2 won’t change it keeps connecting, disconnecting, connecting, disconnecting so I have to charge a power bank, then change my phone off that.

Yep, I have a dupe of this product from Blitzwolf purchased back in 2016 and it does the same thing. So I just hook up a powerbank to it instead and charge that to charge my devices instead. Shame it has such bad output reliability… but I still use it to this day.

Bought this, charged by LG v30 really well during the bushfires (power off for a couple of days) Don't think it had the on/off issue described above

    Normal price on eBay

Wouldn't keeping a 20ah power bank fully charged on standby be a better backup?

… you know, incase you needed the power at night.

    • +1

Yea, but keep your 20ah power bank changed with this….

…and imagine if only there was some way of charging that power bank from the sun for free.

      • how much money do u make that u think $82.49 is free??

    • I have this. Works well and worth the money. Recommend connecting a portable charger and then using the portable charger to charge your other devices

After seeing your comment and dheywood's, I actually ended up cancelling my order and went for the Choetech 19w. Thanks for the input.

Good call. The Allpowers would be my pick but it is not currently available due to high demand.

  • Does anyone know if you used these panels to charge your phone and tablet everyday at home, how long would it take to recover the cost of the solar charger panels?

    • +4

If you charged one phone every day it would take you more than 20 years to recover the cost. It's not about that though, it's about being able to charge your phone when the power is down or you are away from power, or by simply using a reusable source of energy as opposed to fossil fuels (insert comments about energy used to manufacture the panels and ship them here)

Even though I commented above about charging a powerbank from the sun for free (tongue in cheek), it certainly isn't free, or even cost effective.
