buy it from gamesmen and support aussie sellers if the price is right

      • +2

        no…so what?

          • +7

@baldur: Pretty sure you went too far with the communist comment. All that was said was to support aussie retail so that the economy might actually function as it’s supposed to and “trickle down” to the rest. Geez dude, go read a book before you make political comments about something.

            • +1

@vincesuarez: I think they have been living under a baldur

          • +2

@baldur: ?? You can still choose to support certain businesses in a free market.

            • +1

@Mister Popo: No you must spread your purchases evenly across all merchants… it's like reverse communism.

              • +1

@ScottEh: That sounds like a joke, but it's actually the right approach. By keeping as many players as you can in the game, it keeps the competition up, and the prices low. It means shopping around, and maybe paying a little more on some purchases, but its the best strategy in the long run for those on the lower rungs.

Same goes for politics. The right answer is not to vote for this party or that party, but to vote in such a way that it's anybody's game. That way parties will spend bigger and promise more in an attempt to court the voters of that district, while ignoring the safe seats.

          • +1

            @baldur: I'd rather support a small-to-medium local business than a multi-billion dollar corporation

      • +9

That's not what communism is about.
        You mean Nationalist…

    • Also buy through cash back websites (desktop only I believe) get 2% back on eBay purchases where Amazon AU is currently 0%.

      • +5

cash back websites do not work in conjunction with eBay discount coupons.

Anyone have any issues with the drifting and how is the battery life compared to normal switch?

    • +4

Only reason I'm really turned off by these; you can easily fix or replace a joycon on a full sized switch, with these they're built into the console. It's a full console priced replacement, risk of losing all of your saves or having your console swapped to a refurb one to get a repair.

      • ah right, unless you have nintendo switch online for save game cloud then..

        • +4

AFAIK, Animal Crossings saves to the device.
Seen reports of people losing their islands when trying to transfer to a new console.

          • @jsediv: No back up option either!

          • @jsediv: They're planning within the year to have a way to transfer New Horizons saves to another Switch.

            • @sss333: I heard cloud save came with the new update last Friday. Not top sure though.

          • +1

@jsediv: Yes, New Horizons uses system saves which is unlike other Switch games.
Only people with CFW Switch consoles can backup and restore their saves.

The controller design (internal) is the same and as such, it will likely have drifting issues.

      • Are you telling me Nintendo haven't fixed the drifting issue that they know about? So no point me selling my original one, might as well just buy a new controller.

        • +2

Yeh. Nintendo has been fixing joycons out of warranty in US but I am not aware of anything here in Australia.

You could buy another joycons but it will likely have the same issue later. I would say get a pro controller and use that if you are not playing in handheld mode.

          • @azngamer: Nintendo Australia fixed my drifting joycon that was out of warranty free of charge they also fixed the loose rail so it doesn't pop off as easily now.

            • +1

@ArchieD: Thanks for that info. How did you go about it? Was it an email to Nintendo Australia? One of my joycon is completely not usable and I feel like there is going to be a drift on my newer joycon (both left).

            • @ArchieD: I too would like to know how you got a free repair.
Do you need proof of purchase still?

              • +1

@FireRunner: They asked for proof of purchase but they might be able to do it without a receipt. You have to call Nintendo support.

                • @ArchieD: Ok, thanks. I purchased a set second hand (luckily cheap) but the left controller has started to drift right.
Not a super big deal if I can't but would be nice to have it work

I came for Nintendo. But the comments was where the fun was

  • +2

Best price was since Sep 2019, $229 eBay plus event. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/483919. Looks like we won't be seeing such low price at all time low with the current economy climate.

    • +1

The best price was during Big W Closing Down Sale 😛 - $144.50

      • That was unreachable for majority, lucky for those who can grab one.

      • You would think they would be wise and transfer the stock to another store?

No wonder they are closing stores if this is how they manage their stocks.

    • best was when good guys honoured the price error too

    Switch lite? Ew!

  • +2

Just a warning, games for switch are not exactly cheap :(
Enjoying zelda links awakening right now that i got with my lite, never played original. Good fun, the console is pretty nice.

Thinking of picking up witcher 3 for it, it will be easy to pick up and play anytime on the switch is my reasoning.
But i wonder if there are issues with it on the switch?

    • +1

Lower resolution and fps compared to other versions.

And as you said, Nintendo games are not cheap.

      • The Witcher 3 got an update recently on the Switch which addressed some of the lower fps issues.

    • +6

Alright so I can see there is already some misinformation in these comments.

The Switch Version of Witcher 3 runs incredibly well for the hardware - especially in handheld mode.

The latest update may have made some minor improvements to frame rate, but was mainly to provide some visual options for the Switch version to optimise the experience on a per-user basis (e.g. the option to disable anti-aliasing for a clearer image, but more jaggies like most switch ports prioritise).

I played through the entire main story of Witcher 3 on Switch and have just started the DLC during my 90 hours with the game. I played about 30 hours before the post-processing patch and the rest afterwards with AA off and Sharpening on low and the image quality is honestly really good for a Switch game. Had 2 friends even comment (before the patch) that it didn't look as bad as they were expecting coming from the base PS4 version of the game.

The frame rate is consistently between 24-28fps if my memory serves correctly - with dips in dense areas like Novigrad, but looks better in motion (imo) than games like Black Flag on Switch despite the higher frame rate and resolution in the latter title.

For a more comprehensive analysis of the port, I'd highly recommend Digital Foundry's videos on the Switch port (both before and after patch 3.6) for a full rundown.

      • oh wow thanks for that good report.

    • +2

Hence I have been collecting 3DS games for cheap at the moment lol.

I will probably wait until the Switch replacement comes in before going to the switch as there would be a big abundance of used games market by then.

      • That's why I loved my vita, endless cheap games via usa psn. I own about 60 retail digital games and spent maybe 600AUD on amazon gift cards to get them (games like persona 4 for 12US). Yet only own about 15 3ds games, cause they cost $30-60 each

        • I think there is a bigger Fan base for nintendo for collecting games hence they hold their value well.

the 3DS library is still ok in regards to pricing, you do get bargains if you look hard enough and can be between $10-$20 for popular games.

    • The games aren't cheap but the resell value holds well even for (most) third-party games

  • We've got an old Wii U and a 3DS XL, both of which get used regularly. My kid's become obsessed with Mario Odyssey on YouTube, so is now hoping to get a Switch at some stage. Completely unwilling to pay the current idiotic panic prices for the regular Switch and am wondering whether this could be a good compromise in the meantime? I know it won't hook up to a TV, but is it worth buying the the Lite or waiting until regular Switch pricing comes back to reality?

    • +1

If you don't mind paying RRP for the Nintendo Switch, it might be worth visiting local JB Hi-Fi, Big W or Target to ask if they have stock (Or if they can tell you which other store has stock).

Friend manage to get one a Local Big W over the weekends.

    • +2

As tempting as this is, I personally would wait until the regular switch is more readily available.

    • +1

try Costco too. They are $440, slighly cheaper than the RRP.

      • In stock today? Where?
