  • What are the main differences between this and the original switch? (mind you mine switch is the "old" version of that too)

    • +2

Handheld only, not dockable, no rumble, smaller size, no detachable joycons.

      • +2

Smaller screen as well. Some games not compatible because you need the joycons to detach, not sure if you can just pair a separate set. Anyways all in all I feel like the switch lite's price point makes for people to consider the normal Switch more so. When there's no shortage, the Switch averages at $400 anyways.

I think I would only consider the Switch lite if it the price point was $200 or lower.

        • +1

It's a vastly superior portable experience, at the cost of not being able to dock for TV use.

If the latter maters AT ALL, get the traditional switch.

It's worth noting you can still play the games that require you to "detach" your joycons if you buy them and pair them, but that's obviously a bit of an inconvenience.

Personally I own both, and I completely dropped the original because the lite is so much more practical for my use case, as I never dock it.

Spec wise they are identical. You won't get any lesser experience in handheld vs the original Switch in terms of resolution/framerate (and the smaller screen makes games look sharper). Battery life is 1-1.5 hours longer than the old original Switch. Build quality feels way better because the joy-cons don't detach. Screen is a lot more brighter than the old Switch too. Also has a dedicated dpad and it's one of the best I've used (great for fighting games and SNES/NES online).

    • In addition to what everyone else said:

The screen isn't as vibrant but it is brighter than the OG switch (at least on my one).

It has a d-pad which makes a huge difference in games that use it. NES/SNES/games like Celeste on the OG switch in handheld suck in comparison to on the lite.

The build quality feels better. The texture is really nice, no rattle, feels really sturdy, it's the perfect weight the colours are really nice, it makes you want to pick it up more than OG switch

I just want the normal swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiittttttttttttttccccccccccccccccccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Why is it like $600 preowned.
please don't answer, I know why.

      R U OK?

    • Imagine your same mindset, multiplied by thousands of people. And also imagine the mass shortage of it, that pretty much is what supply and demand is.

    • $469 at eb games pre order?

      • yea, pre-order for may 15 release, people want one now to play while in lockdown etc. it's a shame, but it is what it is

        • -2

oh wow that's crazy, you're right, they're sold out everywhere. People are willing to dish out $500+ just to play during lockdown? Especially when the people at home have probably been laid off and might have taken massive pay cuts

            • @squaredonut: To be fair, A lot of these young people who lost their jobs have nothing to do all day. $500 for a switch may seem expensive but if it offers hours of entertainment daily, it's a decent investment

            • @squaredonut: yeah considering that the order is for may, about 4 weeks away. But to be fair, if they're young, they might be earning more than what they were previously. The stupid jobkeeper act means some casual earning $300 a fortnight is getting $1500 now.I'm hoping that maybe after this is all over, I can pick one up quite cheaply. Never considered getting a switch but depends on the price point

              • @[Deactivated]: the $1500 is purposely targeted at people more likely to spend it

                • +1

@Jimmz: right not the adults with bills to pay and probably struggling to live now. They wouldn't spend it after being laid off.

            • @squaredonut: Well older people are less likely to play video games so obviously the majority of buyers will be younger. Your conclusion is silly and based on prejudice

              • @Ononono: It's not the prejudice aspect, but the way they responded and how they were very desperate for it. Sure isolation, need entertainment. I kept getting messages saying "I could just preorder and get it in 2 weeks, but I really want it now". That's the mentality I am referring to.

          • @[Deactivated]: I put my switch on gumtree yesterday to sell at cost and had 20+ messages within 15 minutes

Not an enormous saving, but BOTW regularly retail for around $78 and Mario Kart $68.

  • back in stock now, just grabed a zelda bundle

  • Got one thanks!

  • Has this arrived for anyone yet?

Ordered on the 16th, posted on the 19th and still hasn't arrived, no tracking updates.

Would've been better off buying at eb games for full price.

    • I'd be contacting them if I were you. That seems way too long from the 19th. I ordered one yesterday and the estimated delivery time is 1-5 May.

      • I contacted them, she said estimated delivery is 10 days and eBay isn't correct

        • Well that sucks :/ Thanks for the heads up

          • @HitokiriDee: I'm metro Melbourne btw, packages from other stores have been arriving in 2-3 days so I'm not sure why it's taking so long, pretty annoyed as I would've just grabbed one when EB Games price matched had I known.

            • @chemical-miracle: Just a quick update. My switch lite is at my post office now so I'll be picking it up after work. Bought Wednesday night, arrived Friday morning. I'm surprised as I was thinking it would be next week at the earliest. Did you get yours?
