460

Was looking at porting to telstra when i stumbled across this deal.
Wasn't too sure if its been posted, did a search and nothing similar came up.

Basically port to telstra for $2 and get $30 recharge credit.

you have to buy it online, from the link, and then wait 2 days delivery and then once you receive it, call them up to switch your number.

http://www.telstra.com.au/latest_offers/switchtous/

from their website:

Once your phone number has been brought to Telstra, we'll apply your $30 recharge credit within approximately two business days. Then all you need to do is put your new SIM into your phone and start making calls on us.

For a $30 Recharge, you get $220 Cap+ credit in addition to your $30 recharge, 400MB + 100MB bonus data to use in Australia, plus Unlimited Nights with free Talk & Text to standard Australian numbers between 6pm and midnight!

there was a $10 dollar for $30 telstra starter kit a few weeks ago which had ~40 likes, hopefully this will get me more :P

edit: forgot to mention it's for the first 15,000 customers

  • A good deal. Sadly, I'm already with Telstra Pre-Paid so I am not eligible. I can still always buy the $10 starter pack though (costs $8 more).

    • Took Telstra $10 starter pack with $30 credit recently. Last night activated and transferred credit to another number. Then took the SMSfun deal to collect $100 for a switch to Optus (need to wait 48hours for this one). Now looks like I can get another $28 for switching back to Telstra. Total cost $12, total credit $160.

      • But you won't qualify as you won't be a new Telstra prepaid customer.

  • after calling 12 58887, how much credit will i have left? or is it a free call

anywhere i can get a free or cheap number to port across ??? i don't want to port my main number but would be a great way to test Telstra coverage before my contract with Virgin finishes in a couple of months…

      optus has $2 sim cards

      • thats a good idea, infinite * $4 for infinite * 30$ credit ?

        • +1

but your infinite<15000 and all credit expires in 30days, so requires near-infinite demand

      vodafail also has $2 sims

      Lebara gives free sim card

  • site keeps crashing :S

    • ozbargained already? i only posted it 30 mins ago

    • Having problems checking out ATM.

Edit: Worse now, frontend server error.

Finally got one. Some poor techo must have had to reboot the server.

  • I wanted to switch but saw this:

The Telstra Pre-Paid SIM Starter Kit is not suitable for use in a mobile phone that requires a micro-SIM.

    • you can always cut it to size. I've done it with mine: Telstra PrePaid with iPhone4.

    • just cut it up yourself

    • you can cut it down to microSIM size.

lol, good thing i've got free 4 packs of vodafone SIMs from a previous ozbargain deal, now I can get $120 Telstra prepaid credit for $8 w00t

    ozbargain combo #5

edit ahh I see the first 15,000 limitation dammnit

  • can you use this for premium sms like entering sms competitions?

    Dammit! 1 week late….

I just ported from voda to TPG, from the info I gathered through friends and the internets I was expecting TPG/Optus to be better than voda… but so far it's on par with voda ie shit…. I considered Telstra but my friends convinced me Optus' coverage was adequate… how foolish of me!

  • is there a P&H fee?

Also is the only place in the city you can pick up is 400 George st Sydney?

  • Are they activated automatically? Or could you theoretically use it for as long as you keep changing numbers?

    • good q

    • How do you mean? If you don't activate it, all you have is a normal inactive $2 starter SIM.

      • My bad, I guess you can't keep it forever because by then the promotion would be over.

  • can the number your transfer be from a wireless usb account ??? i have a couple of spares of those…

  • just purchased this online. Do you think I would be able to switch for a microSIM at a Telstra store for free before I port my number over?

  • Pretty good deal. I was thinking about switching over to Telstra as it was - now I get free credit for doing so! :)

  • Mine arrived by courier this morning. Called the number and was taken through activation and porting process by a call centre person. Now on Telstra but no credit. I had no credit in the Optus account anyway. :) $30 credit will show up next Mon or Tue. Then I'll go motor mouth between 6 pm and midnight. :)

    • What is the $30 'recharge credit' anyway? Is it $30 that you use to pay for your monthly pre-paid plan or just $30 credit within your pre-paid plan? Not sure if its scenario 1 or 2:

      1. $30 Cap+ Plan = $250 credit + 500mb data + $30 FREE recharge credit OR
      2. free $30 to use on any plan…. eg. $30 free + $10 = $40 Cap+ plan = $550 credit + 1gb data
      • I think it depends on the prepaid plan you choose. If you choose Cap+, then you get:

For a $30 Recharge, you get $220 Cap+ credit in addition to your $30 recharge, 400MB + 100MB bonus data to use in Australia, plus Unlimited Nights with free Talk & Text to standard Australian numbers between 6pm and midnight!

    • Mine showed up this morning too. <3 AAE! On hold at the moment. Not in any rush to get the credit really so I don't mind waiting a week. :)

      • Remember a couple of things: 1. The free credit is available only to the first 15000 to activate, and 2. the bonuses expire 31 Oct although the main credit should last 30 days.

  • Did anyone get their simcard delivered to a work address where someone else would have accepted delivery on their behalf? I ask because on the email it says you need photo id to accept delivery.

    • Was accepted by our mailroom on my behalf with no issues.

  • Good deal. Offer has been extended to 15th Nov (based on post from the forums)
Also, it may take 2 business days to get the credit after porting the number so the SIM
won't be very usable unless you recharge yourself.
