[VIC] Sengled Element Classic Smart Starter Kit A60 $20 @ Bunnings (Port Melbourne)

220

I found this Sengled Element Classic Smart Starter Kit A60 at my local bunnings (Port Melbourne) in the lighting section's clearance table. It seems like they are clearing all their Sengled branded products as I can't find it on their website.

JB HIfi still retails it for $99 so seems like a pretty good bargain for an entry level smart bulb. I believe you can also link the bulbs to other hubs (ie SmartThings) but I haven't tested it so not sure.

On the clearance table as well there were other Sengled products so might be worth checking it out at your local bunnings (YMMV).

  • Cute prices
    Cute as heck.

  • Did you see any down lights?

    • +1

No I didn't see it. Mostly speaker + bulb systems.

My local (Caringbah) has at the down light globes as well as normal B22 and ES bulbs on clearance for some time. I've generally found not enough stock to quantify for a "deal".

Check it out, and you might get lucky.

    • I picked up a down light kit from Belmont for $30. 4 down lights, 1 hub.
      1 left on the shelf.

  • From their website:
    The details:

Works with Google Home and Amazon Echo
Control up to 64 lights remotely via your smart device
    Easy to set up
Element Classic Kit contains 2 Element Classic bulbs and an Element hub
Voice Control with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa
Smart Schedule your lights from your SMART device through the FREE Sengled App
Added Security: Make it look like you’re at home while your away
Track Energy: Monitor your home energy savings via the App
Element app available for iOS and Android

  • Those are all pretty standard features with the smart bulbs, the light range, power consumption, lumens and connectivity are usually more what people care about.

  • I wish it was available locally…

price match - show them the picture

      • Very rarley occurs. Depending on the store, stock level, person and moon phase.
Yes I have had occasional luck but I doubt it on this.

  • What are the smart reasons for using these?
Other than turning them on with a wakeup alarm I cant imagine I'd find much utility for automation. Does it take longer to turn these on through a phone than through a switch?
Do they work with nfc stickers so you can tap a phone on different stickers on the wall for different combinations of lighting? To not speak over others with voice commands.
If physical lightswitches disable these is it annoying to have guests playing with the traditional switches/can voice automation be set up to recognise multiple voices only for light switching and not other tasks?

Use cases should probably be in a faq by now!

I have combinations of lights that automatically come on before sunset; in the days before WFH it will almost always be dark before I get home. Then they switch off at a suitably (and slightly) random time later in the evening. This also helps in giving the impression of being home while I am away.

For my lounge I have a couple of different light colours depending on mood, such as a brighter reading light or a sunset-themed shade for relaxing.

In my loo I have the light set so that in the early evening it comes on dimmer, and later at night it comes on at minimum brightness so you don't get blasted by light during a 2am loo call.

Ditto with my inside entry light; it is triggered by movement but comes on dimmer when it is later.

Using IFTTT I can have the lights flash when someone rings my phone, in case I'm not in the room and can't hear it. Although I don't use this day-to-day I set it up to see if it would work, and it does. It can also be done for messages.

Again, I only did this for the sake of doing it but if my air purifier detects levels into the red zone it will trigger my lounge light to also go red.

None of these are essential but they bring some interesting utility into your life.

I use one in my garage that turns on when the garage door opens (also requires a smart garage door opener) and off when it closes. The dream is to get an RGB bulb in there that lets me know whether there's traffic on my work commute and I should take an alternate route.

Automations done using Home Assistant and a USB dongle that replaces the Sengled Hub.

I have Hue lights and the biggest reason for using them is convenience.

I have them set so they automatically switch on and off (on when my alarm goes off in the morning, off when I leave for work, on in the evening before I get home, off at night around bedtime).

There are several different options to control them (physical remote switches, voice control, app control, sensors, timers) rather than just a standard light switch, and I mostly put them in lamps where the switches aren't convenient to get to (in the corner of the room etc).

Being able to have the lights switch on and off randomly when I'm away, or just say "goodnight' and have all the lights in the house switch off, it's nothing life-changing but IMO they're worth it just to add a bit of convenience.

  • Hey guys. This super handy link for checking stock at Bunnings stores seems to be no longer working. http://projectsuit.com/bunnings_checker.php
Has it moved anywhere else that people are aware of? Cheers

    • I’ve just seen this link for the first time today and tried it- it works, but only gives me VIC stock levels..? Is there a WA version?

  • The $15 smart floodlights aren’t bad, these have an IR motion sensor and can be used dumb as well.
