Google Pixel 4 64GB Clearly White $799 @ Google Store

710

Google is running a deal for just the Pixel 4 64gb clearly white at $250 off RRP. I currently use the 4XL and love it but battery may be an issue with the standard 4.

Thanks OP. In a year time it will around $400.

    • +2

In two year time to u might get it for ,$400. Oh wait if you wait for another 4 year JB might sell a couple of leftovers for $149 each

      • Wonder how t3m ever bought a phone in the first place with that mentality

        • He's still waiting for the iPhone 3G or first nexus phone to go further down on price

      • Geee many sensitive people here. Honestly, I mean no disrespect to OP. My comment's purely based on my observation that Pixel 3 is now in the $400 (currently on OzBargain), not to cause a riot or negative responses.

If there is a delete button, I'd be happy to just remove my comment above.
        Happy Bargain Hunting!

    • +16

This comment irrationally annoys me. Yes, it'll be cheaper later. That's what depreciation is. This is a discount as of right now. That's literally what this website is for! Whether or not the phone is good is completely irrelevant, this is a better price than you would normally pay for the SAME PHONE from the SAME PLACE, and is hence worthy of being posted.
      ThanksforlisteningtomyTEDtalk

@Jec Lol you're easily annoyed. I'm not complaining about the post. Read my comment again!

        • +4

You're being negged because your comment is redundant and adds no value to the post. Jec and OZB fan are right, you could say 'this will be cheaper in a year' about almost any Ozbargain Deal.

          • @Kiwi131313: Tell that to those who didn't buy a switch last year… Like me… :'(
But yes you guys are completely right that a comment like that is irrelevant

          • @Kiwi131313: Well there was that Google Pixel 4 64GB for $199 port-in deal that happened a while ago, and I will personally be on the lookout for in the future, but yeah 99% of the deals are beatable with demand falling from "not being the latest release" and depreciation.

I got pixel 3 and battery life is terrible. Is this a big upgrade?

    • +26

Absolutely not. Rated as the worst 'flagship' and biggest disappointment of a phone of 2019 by many YouTubers. Avoid at ANY cost!

      • +14

And I heard some random Twitter users bagged it too.

      • +5

At $1400 the XL was a disappointment, however at $720 or whatever it was at Vodafone it's a bloody great phone.

    • +2

Yeah I have the non-XL and the battery life is the worst I've ever experienced on a smartphone, particularly if you force 90Hz display.

I can't get through a full day on a single charge.

    • +6

Aside from the battery, its a big upgrade. The screen is miles better and the phone feels so much better put together.

I ran a pixel 3 as my main before I moved, and the battery isn't really any different. Just as dissapointing tbh, but if you have a desk job, leaving it plugged in while you are at your desk makes it fine.
Certainly dont want to go back to pixel 3 after having the 4, its just a lot more refined.

      • +2

Ok I work construction so my pixel 3 dies on the train home. I get nervous because my ticket is on my phone, so I don't use it to conserve battery

        • Wow, that must be frustrating. Have you considered buying a power bank?

    • Between being bricked and laggy, I'm never buying a Google phone again

    • No. I had one and got rid of it in 3 months.

    • +1

It's actually a downgrade in term of battery. Out of all flagship Pixel the Pixel 2 generation has best battery life. Pixel 3a is also heaps better than the flagship thanks to more frugal SoC and larger battery.

  • +2

Brother in law had one, got rid of it after 2 weeks due to battery life.

  • +2

I got mine quite cheaply via one of the JB Hifi deals least year. It's worth it for what I paid but as many note the battery life is pretty terrible. I'd personally be waiting for the 4a to be released and see how that looks.

  • +2

I get through a full day of use with my pixel 4. Came from a pixel 3 and battery life is pretty much the same to be honest. The lowest my battery has been at the end of the day was around 20 percent and that's with pretty decent use during the day. So I think the battery issues is a bit blown out of proportion a little but each to their own I guess.

    • +2

Wow, the pixel 3 wouldn't last a day for me. I think you don't use your phone much haha

      • Everyone has a different idea of "much". I think I use my phone too much and probably have 2hrs SOT, maybe 3hrs max, meanwhile other people say they need like 4-6hrs SOT, not sure how people can find 6 hours in their day to use their phone unless they have a long commute on a train or something. Each to their own.

        • I make loads of calls for work, browse the web for work solutions, play spotify all day via bluetooth, never on wifi. I got 1-1.5hrs SOT on my Pixel 3. SOT doesn't relate to battery life IMO, as there are many aspects that use battery that are not the display. As a comparison, I would get 3-4 hours on my old P2XL with the same use. I get 2-3 on my S10e. All same use.

    • +4

no it is not, you just don't use it enough. I had a Pixel 2 and a Pixel 4 and can confirm battery life is terrible.

      • I concur; also have a Pixel 2 and Pixel 4. Apart from that, I like my Pixel 4

    • What's your on-screen time?

      • 5 hours minimum if I don't use GPS intensive stuff like Pokémon Go. I have my e-mail to sync as it arrives though and all that jazz

  • +3

This is still more than than what I paid for my s10e 128gb at launch. Wtf.

  • +4

I have an uncommon view. I have the Pixel 4XL and love it. It's my favourite android phone I've owned and my previous one was the Note 10 + 5G.

    • +4

Legitimately if you don't like features and customisations, just want a basic phone, anything running stock Android will suit you really well.

    • +1

Same dude. I've been using Samsung flagships since the S3 and I love my 4XL. Battery easily lasts me a whole day with decent use and 2 days if it's not used much. It's fast and smooth, love the camera and to me, face unlock is better than fingerprint scanner as I have sweaty hands that stop fingerprint scanner from working a lot of the time.

I see a lot of hate for the pixel 4 which seems to be blown out of proportion. I do admit it's super expensive for what you get though, which does not help

      • I notice the negative opinions are often coming from people that don't have and haven't owned it. I haven't come across many people who have the phone that have a problem with it. I got mine through the Vodafone deal so nabbed it for just over $700 so I've been stoked!

    • +4

I have the standard pixel 4 and I can't fathom what the hate is about. It's a really solid phone with no bloatware. Battery lasts me a full day unless I'm really heavy with the use. Anybody who is constantly running out of battery with it probably needs some forced downtime anyway…

My only gripe is no fingerprint scanner for apps that don't support face unlock or pin unlock. But boohoo, it's not like I'm digging trenches in Gallipoli.

  • +6

Still on Pixel 2XL. Can't find any reason to buy a new Pixel phone, lol.

    • My charging port is playing up on my P2XL. Tried cleaning it, didn't work. Waking up in the morning with not enough charge really sucks.

Not sure if I should pay to get it replaced (approx $200), or just buy a new phone.

      • +2

I vote to get a new phone but that's just my opinion.

      • +2

Still have a 2XL. Bought one on release and the charging port started playing up within 6 mths and was completely stuffed at 12 months. Google replaced it with a new one. Must have been over a year now. This month the charging port has started doing the same thing. I figure I'll be in the market for a new phone by the end of the year and really want to stick with a pixel but everything I hear/read/watch about the 4 is pretty underwhelming. Hoping it lasts until the Pixel 5 announcement.

        • Yea. looking at OnePlus 8 Pro's too. Just hoping it lasts till a price drop comes along. If it dies before that, i might bite the bullet and get a P4XL (a price drop can't be too far for it).

      • +1

Does it have wireless charger? How.about spending 10/20 bucks in wireless charger and forget wired one until you we decide to buy a new one . Just saying

        • P2 / P2XL do not

      • With the charging port I think cleaning it really is key.

I've had mine since launch and had to clean it out twice. The first attempt got it charging again but The charger was sitting quite loose, not really sitting snug.

It then stopped charging again. I cleaned again, this time using a toothpick and accidently a tiny bit of moisture. Huge clumps of lint came out. This is despite me cleaning about 4 months prior.

I'd advise a really thorough cleaning of both the charger port and charger

        • I mentioned in my initial comment that I have tried cleaning it (I use the end of a zip tie, vertically sliced in half, find toothpicks too big). I'll try again tonight, but I can't see anything stuck in there… more likely to be worn as per @Bangbus 's comment

      • A common problem is that even though USB-C can be inserted any way, you may find that one way will work and the other wont - not sure if it is a defect of the device or the cable, but seen that before on a Pixel 2, in the end they just found the way the cable worked then labelled the cable top/bottom.

      • +1

If your next phone doesn't have wireless charging, get one of those usb dongles with magnetic connector. This lets you connect and disconnect millions of times without wearing out your usb socket

        • without wearing out your usb socket

          Username checks out

        • Its a pita though if you use android auto. Have to remove the dongle any time.

    • Me too! Still running well, too.

No reason to upgrade at the moment

    • My Pixel 2XL is still running well except for the lock button which doesn't work first go and requires multiple pushing and holding before my phone locks. Very annoying. Also, PD charging doesn't work. It actually turns my phone off so I just use a USBA to USBC which charges fairly well.
Prior to the Pixel 2XL I had an iPhone 5 for 5 years (ended up having some charging port issues) and now I'm thinking the new iPhone SE is the way to go. Really missing having wireless charging.

Finally the US Google store price reached Aus. Now waiting for the 4XL price drop…..

    • probably dumping all the excess that the US have neglected.

  • +2

Thanks for the deal OP! Good find!
Officeworks are doing the 5% price beat too which brings it to $759.05 - North Ryde had a couple in stock this morning.

  • +1

Got the pixel 4 from JB deal on release. I think the battery life discussion is over the top. Battery is not fantastic but would be sufficient for the vast majority of users. Would I get another pixel? Love stock android but would probably go back to Samsung.

  • If there is no travel restriction, Price match at OW for $795, get a further 10% GST refund at the airport… Make it $690 out of pocket.
Maybe price match at JB and get a further 5% off by paying with a gift card

  • Had mine regular pixel 4 since it came out
    Pros
    - Camera - Really great low light especially, beats out my wife xs max shots almost every time
    - easy to navigate, feels intuitive
    - flagship that fits in your pocket
    - google photos backup high quality is free and still good

    Cons
    - Battery is bad but i can always charge it up during the day if need be will last all day if you use it sparingly
    - screen is small compared to similar phones if you enjoy watching lots of videos
    - Doesn’t have the raw power of Samsung or iPhone for bigger apps

  • +1

Clearly the white 4 is not selling well.

  • Wow this phone seems like a total failure due to unacceptable battery life

  • In my experience I've never had any more than 4 hours of screen on time per charge, even when it was brand new. The phone was worth it at $199, but not for $799.

    • ouch $81 a month!

      • ETC of $390ish would've bumped up the cost of the phone (i think telstra cottoned onto people gaming the system?)

        • +1

Can't speak for anyone else but I was lucky enough to be able to cancel the contract without an ETC, so the phone ended up being $199 outright, a few days after release.

        • Here I am on around $70 a month with an s10e on optus though. I think I'd only buy a pixel if my total cost with plan was less than $65ish

  • +1

    Google Pixel 4 64GB Clearly White $799

based on the battery review, clearly bad deal.

  • I'm not interested in buying this phone as I'm happy with mine (OnePlus 5), but I am interested in how much people use their phone.

Some people are saying they are happy with the battery life and it can last their full day, and others say it's awful and never lasts.

How many hours of screentime do you guys average?

  • +2

For the people who's interested in purchasing. Do note that you will incur international transaction fee on Google store. Make sure you use your 28 degree card.

  • Any deals on the 4XL?

  • Not sure why this phone gets a bad wrap, I went from S10+ to N10+ now to Pix4XL.
This is the best of the lot.

Battery life is the only issue so if you NEED to last 12 hours without charging, then look elsewhere.
If you can charge during the day, its the best phone.

  • I got mine from JB Hifi Telstra deal and it is the best phone I have ever owned. Only downside is the battery, but if you carry 2 phones like me it does not matter.

It's battery will still last the whole work day unless you are a medium to heavy user. The 90Hz screen is buttery smooth and face unlock and camera works pleasantly fast.

My previous top phones have been Pixel 1 XL which I bought refurbished about 2 years ago, HTC One M8 and Nexus 6p both which I bough few months after release.

For some reason I did not like Pixel 2XL although it was a great phone. I guess I disliked its "roundish" shape.

  • +1

Gee. Considering it’s nearly the same price as the SE shows how not-budget, the SE is.
