I know the new iPhone 5 is coming out and there is already an iPhone 4, but from experience I think the 3GS is one of the more reliable iPhones!

so you've tried the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 5 ???

    • +1

my bad english. was only meant to be comparing it to the iphone 4 only lol

      • -2

        the bad english continues!

  • why people HAVE to stick around iphone?

    • huh?

      • +3

oh well almost $400 range, you should go with nexus S for $100 cheaper

        • go with nexus S

you'll be disappointed when you try and install all your apple apps on the Nexus though…

        • +1

The man speaks the truth. Pls don't go to very very outdated phone. Not worth your money.

        • you stuck with iOS ecosystem then :)
          i feel its a 100 year contract with Apple…
for this phone like this..the price should be $200 :D

  • I would gladly sell my iPhone 32gb (4x the space!) 3GS for $428 if I could…

    • ebay

      • I got offered $50 on eBay lol. To be fair, another offered me $300.

  • +4

what a rip offf….. I'd much prefer a Nexus S for $299 at Voda. I can't belive this crap still gets posted on OzBargain…

    • yeh i cant believe this slow dog is worth this much still….do they even realise how much awesome loot i can buy for that money

i can buy a transformer tablet and a nokia dumbphone

  • Optus offers similar deals:
    Iphone 3GS 8GB + 30 recharge = $429

  • Hmmm. I should get this phone or wait for iPhone 5 or something else. Decision Decision Decision.

    • well keep in mind that if you buy an iPhone 5, I reckon it'll cost you at least $999.
But apparently they might introduce an iPhone 4S too! who knows how much that one will be or if it comes out though.
      Just saying… :)

      • iphone 5= iphone4s lolz

        • really? have you seen the specs ?

        • uhhh no….. iphone 5 is a complete redesign… whereas iPhone 4S is based on the current model with updates.

          http://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/21/iphone-4s-to-debut-as-on…
although this article shows that iphone 4s might be the only one making a debut, it shows there are two new iPhone models.

      • I reckon it'll cost you at least $999.

and they might keep the 4 as a low end and sell if for < $400 ??? who knows except for a select few at Apple ???

Wow JV! 7000+ comments in the space of 2 years! Very impressive… you sure must have alot of time on your hands :)

How old are your btw? xD

In regards to this deal there is no bargain considering the technology is quite dated in comparison to the many other phones out there.

However having said that, even though it maybe an "iPhone" there have been similar deals in the past that offered this phone for the same (or a bit lower) price e.g. Big W with it's iPhone 8GB 3GS Optus Prepaid for $399 (with $30 credit).

    • How old are your btw?

      8… why ?

    • Wow JV! 7000+

works out at 7 per day…

you sure must have alot of time on your hands

your 614 posts are at a rate of 1.1 per day, so i obviously have enough more time than you to make 6 extra posts… probably around 6 minutes ????

Opposite of a bargain. Anyone who pays this kind of money for a >2 year old smartphone is getting ripped off.

    • Correct, and just when iphone5 is around the corner too. How apple dictates such prices is beyond me.

    • This guy/gal speaks the truth. In the OP, you highlighted the negatives (1. new iPhone coming soon, and 2. Vodafone network and 3. locked to them). The positives aren't that positive either. Second hand iPhone 4's will flood the market once the announcement for next iPhone is made, and you know what happens when supply > demand…

    • If this bargain is the cheapest price for a 32GB Apple iPhone 3GS locked to Vodaphone then it is a bargain.
Comparing it to other smartphones is irrelevant.

      • How is it irrelevant? It's absurd to buy this now, as we all know a new iPhone is imminent. What do you think will happen to the price of the 3GS after the announcement? How will retailers clear their remaining stock? Still sell them for $428, while the iPhone 4 has been reduced?

A bargain needs to be considered in the context of value and longevity.

        Simple example:
Let's say you're in the market for CPUs. The latest gen intel processor has been announced and expected to be released next week in stores. The previous gen processor has been reduced from 500 to 300 in expectation, however the new chip is expected to yield >60% improvement on performance and functionality. Is it still a bargain even if you can get it cheapest compared to a different place?

        • It's absurd to buy this now,

quite possibly, yes… i wouldn't buy one now, but if you really wanted a 3GS iphone now, your point is irrelevant…

        • I meant 8GB. Was researching the iPod Touch for comparison. Surprised no one picked up on this.

And with your CPU analogy, it doesn't matter if you don't need the 60% increase.
Go with the cheaper one or the one you can afford.

If this is the cheapest price you would pay for a Vodaphone Prepaid 8GB iPhone 3GS then it is a bargain.

    • Apparently you're getting negs from ppl who bought this.

  • I looks after a fleet of iphones and I am sorry to see the 3GS go, the only iphone (so far) that will survive a fall, I have replaced most of our iphone4's some more than once.

    • a fleet of iphones

is that the collective noun for an iphone ?

      • once they're water damaged they are

  • Buying outdated models is false economy… Sorry but no deal IMHO…

    • +1

And buying Apple iPhones on release (at release prices) will make you broke.
Outdated models have a place in the economy.

No deal for me either but that's personal.

  • -1

hey dont be so hard on the 3gs just because its outdated by 2 or maybe even 3 years doesnt mean its any less better than the iphone 4 its just cheaper and now some people who though the iphone was too expensive can now afford it

    • +1

But the thing is, now they can afford better things with the same amount of money.

      • +1

But the thing is, now they can afford better things with the same amount of money.

if you want a new iPhone 3GS 8GB, can you find one cheaper ???

        compare apples with apples… (literally)

        • +1

and you would want to buy a 3gs now because?

        • +2

          i don't…

i already have a 3GS, and if i didn't, i'd wait until the announcement was made before deciding…

but, if i did want a 3GS now, is this the best price ??? if so, it is still a bargain for those that want one…

        • People, comment on the product in question rather than its competition. If people want just some sort of smartphone they can do research to see which one is best for them.

      • define better things.

some would think an apple logo = better, you might call them fools or fanbois, but they are consumers and money to burn. and to them this might be a deal.

    • its outdated by 2 or maybe even 3 years

it was only released 2 years ago.

      • +1

        so?

        • so… not 3…

  • +1

Lol……3GS……I'd have to be out of my mind to want to spend that much on such an old model when there are smart phones on the market that are better spec'd, have a better display. Will it run iOS5 properly? TBC but I doubt it.

Both these are newer phones with 16GB memory, compared to the iPhone 3GS's 8GB memory:

    LG Optimus Black $369: https://www.allphones.com.au/shop/outright_detail.asp?code=5…

    Samsung Galaxy S i9000 $399: https://www.allphones.com.au/shop/outright_detail.asp?code=4…

    • And Google Nexus S $299 from Voda.

  • The "reality distortion" force is strong with this one…
