@ozhunter68: I assume a reference to User name 'franco cozzo'

Franco Cozzo owned a furniture store in Brunswick Melbourne - This was his catch cry for many years - He used to start his TV adverts (Melb) with 'Gran Sale Gran Sale - Megalo Megalo'

            https://www.onlymelbourne.com.au/franco-cozzo

            https://www.dictionary.com/browse/megalo-

            • @GC67: Haha, yes, that brings back memories.

I am old enough to remember those adds when young as I lived in Melbourne and later Ballarat in those days.

Remember the name, adds and accent, but not the finer details lol.

  • Which flavours are recommended?

    • +4

mexican bean and chilli beef are my got tos….they both actually resemble real & tasty food and are a good quick satisfying meal
classic ministrone is also nice but not chunky as the prior ones i listed…great for a light lunch/dinner

I agree that Mexican Beans and Chilli Beef are probably the best ones. I find the others have a somewhat artificial taste.

    • +1

Ravioli is apparently pretty good, or so I'm told..

      • I find I t to artificial smokey

    • Didn't like the peppered steak, way too much pepper.
      Irish stew was good.

  • Ordered 5 minestrone and 5 ravioli , good value

  • +1

Great cheap meals to go with rice or pasta!

I stocked up on these when woollies had them on sale before the apocalypse. Surprisingly I have not grown sick of them yet. Ive been doing butter chicken on rice about twice a week for the last 6 weeks. And the mexican bean one makes for pretty damn good quick nachos.

But tonight we eat like kings - my vicmeats order just arrived. Looks like meats back on the menu boys!

    • Bah! I will forever hate vicmeats, when they started selling burgers at Pyrmont, they only had like 5 on the menu, one was a cheeseburger, I asked if i can pay extra to get a double cheeseburger. They flatout refused saying if it's not on the menu we won't do it. That was many many years ago and I will NEVER forget!

      Worst customer service..

        OK Karen

Stopped frequenting the man-sized cans as I started watching my weight.
But I'll always have a soft spot for those raviolis…

A big, squishy soft spot that hangs right over my belt buckle…

The idea is unless you've really physically worked up an appetite or played a game of football, you only eat half or 2/3 and save the rest for Ron.

I also rarely do that myself lol.

Normally I dislike canned soups as they're often flavourless and bland, but I was pleasantly surprised when I tried the butter chicken this week. It actually tastes pretty good, and if I made it myself I would be pleased.

I have Amazon Prime but I won't be ordering. Currently on sale for $1.75 at Woolworths plus 5% off.

  • I like em big.
    I like em chunky.

    • I like em thicc

  • Currently unavailable.

Butter Chicken and Chilly Beef are my favourites.

I just got a couple from Woolies today. I haven't tried Stake and Mushroom, so got two of those to try.

A little tip. I like to add a little bit of water (not much, probably 50ml or so) before microwaving.

Is it true these cans are 'made in NZ' but actually just labelled in NZ, and the actual food is made and canned in China?

    • +2

      They are the same countries???

      • No, but there a loophole in the NZ legislation that allows this. That’s why I’m always wary of foods imported from NZ.

  • +1

I mean, nobody wants to admit they ordered nine cans of ravioli, but I did. I'm ashamed of myself.

No judgement here, you are among friends :)

  • Some of these work well in Pie fillings if you have your own pie maker

Best if you remove most of the liquid first though.

  • Mexican bean OOS..

Ordereed a few others for pantry fillers..

    Thx OP.
