What's special about product of China mushrooms vs domestically grown?
I think it might be the type of canned mushroom. While I can find champignon mushroom cans in Coles regular section I haven't found straw mushrooms in cans anywhere but China town. Coles sell the straw mushroom fresh, but they die very quickly. Also the price is pretty good and from my understanding it's only a western practice to can the less than quality items, whereas most other countries actually can their more favourable produce to enjoy it year round. Maybe these are a better quality mushroom. Think our canned tuna for $1 vs canned tuna belly from Spain for $19. Same weight, very different quality. Who knows.
Coles sells straw mushroom fresh? Which Coles is this? I would totally buy domestic straw mushroom but haven't found any. That said, $1.49 a can is the price for these in my local asian grocery.
The Coles at Adelaide central markets does sometimes in with the oysters and enokis. I assume it's a regional thing then if yours doesn't.
A can of these is closer to 2.20 at my local Asian grocery which is a shame, I want yours!
