Are you going to try and make money by issuing speeding tickets?

    • +5

      Yes, badge sold separately

    • @laser

      name checks out

  • +5

Just wondering what you'd use this for?

thermometer and screen hot chicks for Covid

If you already know they're hot, why do you need a thermometer?

      • Surely you can think of better things to point at their face than a speedo.

        • Like pointing the same thing at them after removing their speedo?

    • +1

Point it at the forehead of people visiting your house so you can see how fast you will catch covid19.

    • +7

Calibrating my speedo - it's quite important to know precisely when I reach a certain speed…

    • +3

Measuring the waves of attractive and single women with low self esteem running towards me.

My current speed gun reads 0km/hr so it must be broken.

    • +1

If you have issues with people speeding in your street, just stand on the side of the road pointing this to traffic.

      • -2

Or push a pram with a watermelon in front of their car. Will be good a demonstration of how stupid and selfish their speeding is and what the ramifications could be.

  • Handy to see what speed you can get upto running away from people with corona virus.

  • Can this be used as a bowling speed tracker?

    • +2

Based on the description - I'd say yes.

      It has auto mode:

Auto racing: 10-200 MPH (up to 1,500 feet)

      As well as sports mode:

Ranges: Baseball/Softball/tennis: 10-110 MPH (up to 90 feet)

    • +2

This should come with a note

"You're buying too much crap, we think you have a problem"

"Please call our therapist, Karen on 99-999-99"

    • Everyone: Honestly can't think of a single reason to buy one

Literally Everyone: Honestly can't think of a single reason to buy one

      OzBargainer: Buys it anyway

  • finally can catch me mate speeding..

  • +1

Why would you need this, please enlighten us.

    • +3

      please enlighten us.

If you want to measure your weight, you need scales, not a velocity gun.

      • +1

        Ha ha ha, 😮

      • +1

Still that doesn't answer my question 😇😆😉

    • +1

Because you want to check how fast stuff is going?

  • +6

Bought several for the crew. Neighbourhood watch duties.

  • Only reason I can think of is a concerned neighbourhood member wanting to get some data to ask for speed limit to be reduced in their own street

  • +12

Check the speed of cars going down your street and shake your fist vigorously at offenders yelling “slow down ya hooligans!”

  • +1

If you want to know which ozbers are cops check the votes page..
    Lol

  • +1

To see what kind of heat you are bowling in back yard cricket?

  • Put on car dashboard for free parking at police spot or drive behind speedy for pranking.

  • +2

These are used in many sports for speed training purposes. Checking cricket bowling, tennis racket/baseball bat speed.

Not really useful for the common punter but serves its purpose.

    • Cycling as well.

      • Don't bike computers already have that?
Cadence + wheel diameter => speed

        • Right, like cars. Yet here we are with stationary speed measuring devices for car racing.

  • Might be able to use this to measure the exact rate in which im losing all my muscle mass currently.

    • +1

first thing I thought of too :)

  • Thanks OP. Have been requesting council for a speed bump in our street; this will help to get supporting data.

    • +6

Speed bumps are horrible things. We have one in our street. The noise of cars/trucks braking, bumping over it, then accelerating again is quite high and that noise carries at night. Worst is when a tradie ute with tools or someone with a trailer goes over it. Sounds like a car crash. Don't do it.

      • agreed the rev from the accelerating can be annoying. what to do about the speeding idiots though?

        • +1

Not care so much or and move off a main thoroughfare if traffic speed bothers you so much I guess. Having never had a speed bump before around a house I lived at I wish I had known how noisy they are. Never would have bought the house. Won't make that mistake again. Worst things ever and they don't slow the traffic down all that much anyway. Just in that one spot. People that want speed bumps are like people moving next to an airport and complaining about the noise of the aircraft.

    • +5

As long as it is installed directly outside your place and you want the added noise of late breaking, car suspension working over the hump, then the exhaust of a hoonmobile accelerating away. Speed bumps substantially increase traffic noise, and you and your neighbors will get the joy of driving over it all the time, so careful what you wish for

      • +5

The people that request speed bumps are universally about causing misery to others.

    • -2

I very heavily dislike people like you. It's not YOUR street, so if you don't like it then gtfo to a cul de sac instead of ruining people's drives with unnecessary speed bumps.

      • -3

It's the law that you cant speed, and the law reflects the will of the people in a democracy, so its you that should do your speeding on a track, rather than a public road.

    • +2

Might want to chat to people from emergency responders, particularly ambulances feel about them. An Angled Slow Point (https://www.mainroads.wa.gov.au/BuildingRoads/StandardsTechn…) is generally the preferred option nowadays..and much more entertaining for those of us with small, nimble cars..

    • Write to your local state member and complain about the speeding cars, they will install a temporary device that verifies your claim that people are speeding. If they are found to be speeding, they will send patrols and fine the speeders.

  • +/-1 mph/kph? That's not a very accurate accuracy range.

  • If it the old radar style, does that mean it will set off the now useless radar detectors some people keep in their cars to be cool? Asking for a friend.

  • +2

We use these at RC Plane meetings to check top speed of some of the faster electric and turbine models

    • OMG someone has a genuine reason!

  • +1
  • is this so you can go and tell on people?

  • +2

I'd love to hook this up to a large display to show the hoons in my street that someone is out there, watching.

    • challenge accepted.

  • +1

I've come across a few of these second had which do capture real speeds (as well as scaled speeds of How Wheels cars :-P )… https://www.amazon.com/Hot-Wheels-Radar-Discontinued-manufac…

  • +1

I still have my Hot Wheels radar gun. I think I'm good ;)

  • +4

Useful for finding the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.

    • +5

      African or European?

    • I forgive the Pythons the tautology - who knows, perhaps it was intentional.

  • As a civil engineering student a number of decades ago, I borrowed a speed gun from the faculty lab for collecting speed data for a project assignment. On the day for data collection on road, I shot on a police car, and then I got arrested. Reason: shooting on police assets. So just be careful when you use it.

    • +1

Typical pigs with their double standards lol
