  • I couldn't get it to work

  • What was the error. You may need to use IE as the browser.

  • Thanks Draxxx… pretty full on at work at the moment. My links worked here, but didn't check too much.

  • What are the prices? Would prefer not to need to click the link :)

    • -3

Click the link and all shall be revealed.. It is free to check the prices!

      • +2

It's also free to put them in the front post, like almost every other deal :)

    • $236 for standard.

There, I did half the work for you :-P

  • Bugger. Just paid $307 for a Standard sub. Wish it worked for renewals.

    • Why bother renewing at the asking price of $260 when you can get a new subscription for $235 including the discount?

      • +1

Because if there was a discount on renewals it would be less than $260? :-P Never underestimate the cheapskate-ness of OzBargainers (or maybe I should just speak on my own behalf!)

        • No no, you speak for all of us :)

  • +1

  • Was hoping to get a discount to use on renewal.
Hasnt been a code for while so thx TeamTerry.

  • I lucked out and got a two year BizSpark MSDN subscription for Free in February (courtesy of OzBargain).
This is a good deal, but to get the BizSpark you have to run a company.

  • +2

Fantastic deal but hesitant to jump on it unless I know Windows 8 would be released between now and next year.

    • +1

its a yearly subscription and you are entitled to any updates and new products from beta level
      Read the information page

      http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/subscriptions/bb892759.as…

windows 8 will probably be in beta early in the new year so you should be covered.

      • Thanks for that - I can't seem to find where it suggests I can upgrade from a Beta and receive a product key for RTM?

There's no software I would need except for Windows 8 (and Office 15), but if I could upgrade frm Beta -> RTM after my subscription lapses I'd happily buy this now.

        Any thoughts?

        Cheers

        • +3

Why don't you buy it, and not activate until you've got confirmation of Windows 8's release date? The package is just a code - you still have to sign up on the TechNet website to activate it - which then becomes the date from which your sub starts.

        • Great idea. Suppose it begs the question to the subscription codes expire at any point?

I imagine W8 street date will be announced in around 6 months time and presumably the code wouldn't expire before then. Will do some more research and find out - thanks for the suggestions.

        • FWIW I can't see any mention on my package of any expiry - I'm doing this (but for different reasons… I'll activate mine once the 60-day eval period on my Office 2010 install runs out :-P) Except I paid $307 for mine!

  • Good pickup on the discount

Please update the link though - the other gives a cookie error , code works nicely.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-au/subscriptions/buy.aspx

then get annoyed with the pricing by visiting the us website
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/buy.aspx

    • @US pricing, Son of a…. tried the above code and even USTECHED30, CATECHED30, TECHED30. None work. Anyone know of issues with getting the US one? It's cheaper even with the AU discount.

      • +2

Impossible. They have geo-pricing. If you get to the US checkout, you have to use a US cc, and have valid US address.

Even with the AU one, (which I purchased last Tuesday) they take a week to verify your info before the subscription goes live.

        • +1

Thanks, exactly what I wanted to know.

        • Actually you can get US pricing if you choose a Asia/Pacific country which uses $US, such as East Timor…and no GST either…

Also note, when your subscription runs out, you still have access to the keys/software available during your subscription. A few years ago they offered a free 1mth subscription to people in Belgium, I signed up 7 still have access to all the Vista/Server2003/Office2007 keys

  • A quick question - can anyone tell me if my current installed product licences lapse once my subscription expires?

We have been trialling several solutions internally and only recently installed Dynamics CRM to trial. Our subscription lapses at the end of Oct. Do I need to renew/purchase new subscription to continue trialling the software.

If my memory serves me correctly, I will be able to continue trialling the installed products.. just wont be able to download new ones..

What about downloaded software with keys that haven't yet been activated?

If not, then I'll probably just renew..

    Thanks in advance

    • Your memory serves you correctly. Your activated licenses will continue to be valid forever, but you will have no more access to new activations or licenses.

So it's in your best interest to get a copy of all your activation codes before your sub expires.

    • +1

I'm thinking of trying to get a new one via USA so I get new licences to use.

    • Pretty sure the old keys work still.

edit: I also had about a month after my last subscription lapsed to renew. I imagine there wouldn't be too much issue letting it lapse, testing and renewing if needed. At worse I'm sure a phone call would get you renewed.

That or just set the software up now.

  • Download all the product ISOs you think you will need. Get serial no's for them.

    • Great, thanks seb and zzyss.. we have really tested all that we need, was just the final Dynamics CRM call that we are making which is being trialled with 3 of our sales reps.

      thanks for the quick response.

  • The AUD RRPs are too high. Microsoft renamed the products one year ago and Microsoft Australia bumped up the price from ~$380 (TechNet Plus) to $618 and called it TechNet Pro. Even with 30% off, you are not really better off.

US prices are still cheaper I reckon.

  • Whats the limit to the amount of acctivations you can have? Say I want to activate 5 win2k8 servers in my lab?

    • +1

might be 2 standard and 5 pro.

    • +2

I recall something along the lines of 10 activations per key and you could ask for 10 keys. If you exceeded this limit you had to contact them to add some more. More info here.

      • From what I know, MS changed the limit to what dirtybird said, at least on the more commonly used apps to help "combat piracy" or something, i.e. people getting a subscription then making $$$$ selling the keys on ebay or whatever.

ed: according to this: http://www.amazon.com/Technet-Std-2010-English-Programs/dp/B… the current amount of keys for the standard is 2.

        • +1

Keys are 2 and 5, activations on each could be 10.

      • +2

Two keys per product, 10 activations each apparently.
Apparently you can simply contact them and they can issue more if required. Haven't tested this yet though.

        • Do the keys expire if my subscription expires?

        • @RayEarth2162 - the keys will continue to work after your subscription expires.

  • +1

    Australian MS is a ripoff.
    Buy from Amazon.com
    US$181.99 std
    US$219.99 pro
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-w…
    http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1678703

    • The technet std on amazon is renewal and you don't have access to Australian ms support by buying from there (if you need it)

    • And if you read past threads / whirlpool - Amazon keep shipping the incorrect one.

The price isn't too important when it's 100% tax deducatable. ;)

      • you mean like pro if you order say the standard?

      • The price isn't too important when it's 100% tax deducatable. ;)

Unless the price difference is greater than the tax bracket you're in. :)

        • Mate, it only offset your income, not tax, so you only save about 30% of what you paid (depends on you income tax rate)

        • That's what I meant. :) Tired and only on 3hrs sleep so my ability to use words to form sentences to communicate ideas may not be at its best. :)

  • Sweet buy. Wish I could add it on to my existing subscription.

  • This is still working - i.e. not expired
