As in another thread, if you aren't a big WD-40 user I'm going to buy the non-aerosol variant in future to leave in my store-room:
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/wd-40-330ml-non-aerosol-trigger-…
Costs more ($8 for 330ml) but better than the de-pressurised, wasted half big can I got left.

(Unless you happen to own an air-compressor)

Hope you have a large store room… I reckon there'd be easily over 50 of us here who aren't big WD40 users!

Uh oh… I'll jump in first.

    • WD40 is a lubricant
    • It's not a very long-lasting lubricant
    • A lubricant can't lubricate everything. It'll lubricate what it was designed to lubricate.
    • You shouldn't use it on your bike chain, but you can use it to degrease the chain
    • There are cheaper ways to degrease your chain, e.g. SCA degreaser
    • It'll work great with various things around the house like squeaky hinges, chairs, window track rollers, and lots of seemingly random things.

      What's a more long-lasting lubricant?

        doc johnson anal lube

        • doc johnson anal lube

If you pick a numbing one, you'll be able to get some lidocaine from it!

thanks man, that's gonna be in my recommendations for months.

It depends on what you're lubricating. Light spray lubes like this won't be as long-lasting as a thicker oil or grease. But a thicker oil or grease might not be able to penetrate as well as a light spray lube, so it all depends on what you're lubing. :)

Usually oil. See also: greases, waxes, graphite, molybdenum disuphide, teflon powder.

WD-40 is a type of penetrating oil. The basic formula is 50% oil and 50% kerosene. It's great for getting in where oil alone would not penetrate - the threads of a stuck bolt, for example.

Where oil alone will do the job it's preferable.

      • Lithium grease

Jack of all trades. Master of none.

If you have one can of spray WD40 will do most things ok.

  • I’m confused. 398ml and 325ml for same price so wouldn’t 398ml be cheaper?

    • +3

It isn't cheaper if they are both the same price.

    • very smart!

    • 398ml = 325g due to the density of 0.82g/L

  • let me slide my comment in right here.

    Buy Inox instead
    -Lasts longer
    -Lubricates better
    -Australian made and owned

I use a light coat of Inox to protect almost everything - from guns to tools

    • Link please? I can’t find it in bunnings website

        • Also available in Supercheap and BCF and gun shops.

Great product that actually works fantastically and you support Australian jobs too.

If you need something thicker, they have a grease (Inox MX6) that I also find excellent. I use it on my gun bolts and hinges.

If you need something that is exposed to salt water or need other corrosion resistance, they also make Lanox, which is Inox with lanolin. I use it on my boat/trailer and fishing gear. All definitely worth the extra $ over WD40

          • @PCHammond: Didn't even know it existed, just always reached for the WD40 or RP7. I'll be getting a can of Inox next time for sure, thanks for the recommendation!

  • The most commonly misused product on earth.

Yes, great to have in the house… everyone should own a can.
But OMG it is NOT a lubricant. Terrific for stubborn bolts/locks and for water displacement, but NOT a good lubricant at all.

Thanks for the advice, I almost applied it to myself

  • Thanks gonna get dozen to see if they can work on my motorcycle chains

    • Get a proper chain lube. The MOTUL one is quite good IMO.

  • Not mentioned here, but it can be used as a bug killer, thanks me later ;)

    • Works better with a lighter for bugs

  • But can it kill the Rona?! 🤔

    • +1

      only by injection inside

      • let us know your test results when youre done

    "Penetrates frozen nuts and bolts"
OK…so after it penetrates your nuts it runs away? Asking for a friend.

  • Isn’t this standard price?
