590

Logitech F310 Wired PC Gamepads are currently half-priced at EB Games.
Last time I was shopping around for a gamepad for my PC I could not find anything cheaper than $40, so seems to be a decent price.
also, if you prefer to go wireless then an F710 is $44.98

I've owned 2 of these before.

The first broke after a year because of a faulty connection in the wire. The second one I got is having issues registering the L3 button and R1 bumper.

Ended up getting a dualshock 4 controller and find it's much better despite the higher initial cost.

I got one for about 9 bucks 8 years ago at dick smith at it still works.

      • +2

I got one for free quite a few years back and it still works too.

        • +7

if you play dark souls games, will probably broken in a day. And your tv too

          • +1

@jake-sun: I've played dark souls with mine. Somehow it still works.

            • +1

@gottacatchemall: Need to be a lousy gamer like me. Snap the controller in half and smash it onto the TV out of frustration.

      • I got one from the same sale. Gamepad still going strong

    • -2

You can tell just by looking at the promotional photo that this controller is hot garbage.

      • +11

Actually, the F310 has been one of the most popular basic budget gamepads ever made. They are STILL being sold in shops a decade on.

          • +7

@AustriaBargain: The fact that it's still stocked and selling in retail stores around the world 10 years on and the thousands of very positive reviews from those that have actually owned them says otherwise.

          • @AustriaBargain: You're missing the point: it's the best option for the money.

Logi has a bit of a thing with making the best value peripherals.

      • I got this controller for maybe 8years also. It's outlasted my xbox1 control and had zero firmware issues since day 1 with the main launchers. Console emulations is a different story though..

It was cheap and last a long time which is good enough for me.

I got a similar Logitech one about 15 years ago, still going strong (been using it recently to play the free GTA V)

Not many things have divided the greater PC gaming community more than the following question: Is the F310 any good?

Some will say the face buttons are mushy, poor dead-zones and stick resistance is uncomfortable or too loose, build and materials feel cheap, creaky, flexible, etc… and iffy support with modern titles due to sometimes buggy xinput support.

Others will say it's built like a tank: indestructible… The D-Pad offers some of the smoothest and most comfortable quarter and half rolls for fighting games, or that the shape of the controller is some of the comfiest in the market today and since.

I think despite flaws, for the price it's a great buy. Especially if you're planning on getting a couple for local multiplayer sessions. I've owned probably 8-9 since they started making them.

    • +1

For what its worth, its the only controller I've ever dropped that has broken.

      • They make great backup controllers, but yeah they're fragile.

    • +1

Trigger went after a year of light usage. I would personally invest in a better controller. My preference is DS4 controller with DS4Windows software via bluetooth. Works a charm up to 4 players.

    • I see many of these models at the op-shops.

  • -3

Never settle for a third party controller for PC or Console. Xbox controllers and Dualshocks are far more superior than even their larger price tag let on.

    • +4

      I disagree.

I've had my Logitech F310 for many years without issues, but my Sony and Nintendo Joycons both started to drift.

      • Interesting. I had a F310 for a couple of months, and the triggers started to die. And I think I still have a 360 controller kicking around somewhere, but I think the RB button is dying a bit, but it's 7 years old, and I decided to upgrade to a Xbox One controller.

It's very possible that all controllers are just super hit and miss, which makes for a polarising view on whether one or the other is better.

        • I've still got mine and it works the same as the day I got it 9 years ago. To be honest, I'd never
known many to have issues with them other than the trigger which is an easy fix.

    • -1

? Most PC controllers are third party.

      • -1

And most PC controllers are shit house in my experience. YMMV, but I'm basing my comment on my experience with actual console controllers (Wireless / Wired Xbox One and 360 controllers, and Dualshock 4 controllers), and 3rd party controllers such as the logitech, and some other one from EB that I can't recall the name of right now.

        • Not debating that. I would say 98% of pc controllers are third party. The only time it would not be is if you buy a pc from a controller manufacturer. Or if Dell or Hp etc made game controllers.

          • -2

@Cave Fire: I would've thought that what I was implying was pretty obvious (Microsoft, Sony controllers). Seems like a pretty dumb point to argue on but OK.

    • My PowerA PS3 controller is one of the best controllers I've ever used and uses the Xbox 360 design. It's perfect.

  • Do these get recongised as Xbox controllers in games?

  • If you already own a PS4/XB1 controller, get yourself a cheap bluetooth adapter. You'll save some coin and end up with a much better experience.

    • Is there a way for it to automatically button map with the PS4 or does that only work for XB1 controllers?

    • The older XB1 controllers don't support bluetooth.

  • +2

I've used this controller on PC for a few games that work better with a controller like Dark Souls, Sekiro, etc. Recommend

  • It's actually a PC controller that has Xbox or X input. Happens to work on other consoles as well. Good but has a kind of basic feel. Have had occasional compatibility issues with some games.

  • wow though it'd be no doubt useful for someone out there, i cant believe this is still a 'current' model lol..unless im mistaken for another controller, i bought one of these ~2010/11

  • +1

    Woah, they still sell these?

I've got two of these and only occasionally use it. But after getting a DS4, i haven't touched these since. They feel so mushy compared to the DS4.

There are also a lot of fantastic programs that emulate the DS4 (amongst other controllers) into whatever you want

  • +2

I have one of these amongst my collection of 6+ controllers. I would not recommend anyone to use this as a main controller but it's fine as a backup. I have all these controllers to play local multiplayer games on my PC for when there are many players present and someone just needs to have a controller they can use for a few hours. For any long term play, I would recommend something like an XBox One or Dual Shock 4.

Cant really comment on the price but I thought I'd share my use case.

  • I got to believe that they intentionally put the rubber substance at the back of the controller and they will become sticky in a few years' time so that we all need to go to buy another one again.

If you have a Tesla Model 3 and want to pay games once in a while then this is the one you should get

  • +1
    • Wow, the f710 didn't drop in price in half a decade? The controller is too bulky to be in the 80 bucks. It's not universally comfortable for shoulder buttons heavy games, like fps.

  • +1

If you wnat to play FTG game on PC, this controller is better than XBOX or DS4 as it has a round plate type cross button rather than X type button as on DS4. Players can easyily make ↖↑↗←↔→↙↓↘ in one press

    • +1 this is my go-to for Skullgirls or Tekken

    • +3

I didn't develop calluses on my thumbs in all those years playing on the NES/SNES/PS1/PS2 for nothing.

  • Cheers, I've been looking for a cheap secondary controller for the occasional couch co-op game so I got one!

  • how would these go with retropie?

    • +1

Pretty good. It's recognised and I've never had any issues with it.

  • Does it connect via usb

    • Yes

  • I got 1 wired and 2 wireless usb dual analog /rumble logitech controllers from back in 04, if someone wants them for spare mame/fight cade.
    I assume they'll work fine?
I used to use the wireless one as a pc remote actually

    Fantastic controller for their day

  • +1

I've been using my old PS3 controllers with scptoolkit on Win10. Wired and bluetooth. Works very well.

  • good find. I use mine with retropie too and it is fun for the kiddos.

  • Mine broke after some heavy gaming. Bought a thrustmaster version of the same gamepad and that looks and feels 3x as nice.

  • I had that silver version, never liked it. Seemed way too stiff and not as ergonomic as an xbox controller, but for the price it is pretty good

  • Picked up the F710. Been looking for a controller for a while, thanks.

  • I still have mine decent unit
