  • No usb c, no nfc, no fast charging, only 2gb ram, MTK A22 - what are you doing Nokia. Yes $129 is cheap, Android One is a great idea (but only if updates are frequent - 3 yrs of slow updates isn't really 3yrs of updates is it?), and even with the GPS on my Samsung Galaxy A20 being completely unusable for navigation most of the time, I think I'd still pick the A20.

The new Nokia models looked like they would be amazing when an announced, but the specs are so gutless and the prices for those specs sucj poor value that it pretty much outweighs the benefits of Android One and near stock android experience.

To be fair I bought a Vodafone A20 and unlocked it with a null SIM code from fonefunshop - which works but could be part of the issue (It let's you use any SIM, but I wonder if it makes it s9 the phone looks for Vodafone gps servers still but can't connect?), so I only paid $149 + $5.50 to unlock (and 30min worth of work).

If I was paying $299 for the non carrier branded model or even $229 or $179 it might shift the balance for me.

The perfect budget phone would be somethingthe message that runs close to stock Android (skins etc is fine but not colour os or anything android derivatives), with android one and nfc, b28, 18w charging, 4gb ram, 64gb internal with micro sd, regular updates for under $500. But I still haven't found something that meets all of those.
Bonus would be wireless charging, 3.5mm jack, water resistance.

The OPPO phones come close, but colour os or fun touch os or whatever they use is a deal breaker.

  • Just an FYI, my USB port on my Nokia 3 died, and reading suggests this is common across all Nokia models.

I replaced the USB module at the bottom (from Ali express) and now it at least charges, but can't connect to a PC / MacBook (hardware failure message comes up). Replaced the USB module again, but still the same, so must be something further up the line has been fried as well?

Anyone got any ideas on this? (Ie which part of the phone the USB data is controlled with?).

I have tried different cables, computers etc, USB debugging, mtp, ptp settings etc. Definitely phone hardware.

    • I got mine repaired/replaced under warranty.

Manufacturer warrants that the Product is free from defects in materials and workmanship (“Defect”) for Twenty-Four (24) months for the main device including non user-replaceable batteries, where the Covered Country is Australia or New Zealand.

During the Warranty period, Manufacturer or its authorised service center will, in a reasonable time, remedy the Defect free of charge by either repairing or replacing the defective Product or accessory or the defective part of it at its option, provided that you have returned the defective Product or accessory to the Manufacturer or its authorised service center before the Warranty period expires.

      • Did you have to send away to a Sydney address?

That was my only option and a courier needed to collect during week day working hours (no drop off option).

Now I've replaced the USB part, warranty sticker has been removed. That being said, the original part removed is clearly faulty / dead.

        • I returned to store (Officeworks) and they dealt with it for me.

Apoloigies, mine is the 5.1 plus, but same issue with USB.
And as writing this, it is starting to get loose again. FFS.

  • Would this be locked to Telstra?

    • It isn't advertised on the telstra or bigw websites, but i'd assume yes - see this article - that and mobileciti having unbranded stock of the same phone for $199 makes me suspect it would be locked. If it is locked you might be able to return it or get a free unlock out of telstra - but would it be worth the hassle? I'd go in to buying it willing to accept it being locked, or avoid buying it at all.

Delivery is actually FREE on check out.

I have seen this with previous smaller electronic items like Airpods, despite it says $7.90 standard delivery when you check out it's FREE.
