  • How much difference in performance between 3700X and 3800X?

    • +4

about 100, but you need to solve for x.

      Everyday usage? Probably not noticeable.

Bugger all, that's why I went with the 3700X wasn't worth the price difference.

      • i think both 3700X n 3800X were a bit of a miss with 3800X the biggest loser of the two … if it was gaming and some prodcution workloads u wanted 3600 was the best buy and spend the diff on a gfx card.. if production workloads were your thing they were good but the 3900X was def the better buy there, otherwise even the 3600 did an admirable job for like half the price :)

'you’ll get 3% more performance at best, by spending 21% more of your money.'

        Yikes.

    • 300Mhz base clock for nearly x2 power consumption.

      • I'll prob get 3700X then

      • +1

That's not how power consumption works, they'll pull just about the same power. TDP doesn't mean much nowadays.
If anything, 3800X is better binned chip so it may pull slightly less power for the same clock.
That said, totally not worth it.

      • May be 150MHz during turboboost.

  • +6

Please note that for all the Ryzen 3000 line up, it is believed that 3800X got the best binning for single core performance (as could be seen on Silicon Lottery statistic here), even better than 3900X and 3950X. Otherwise it's just a glorified 3700X.

Yes, this is true. I got mine last month and was able to do 4.5GHz all core at a low voltage fairly easily on first attempt. I think it can do better given enough time for tweaking. It is also widely known that you can overclock and tweak the infinity fabric for high speed RAMs on the 3800x.

    Waiting for the 3800XT lineup

Can't wait to see the price drops for 3700x/3800x when the 4000 series comes later in the year.
